$400 40 gig rumor.

They can't just throw down a bunch of money for a single game, there needs to be some actual bang for your buck and one game, no matter what the game is, doesn't cut it.

Tell that to the original Xbox.

Have you seen the online play, Baja? That's coming with MGS4? That looks impressive. Specially since you can help lift your ally (it seems) up onto things and use various amusing map features. It's got features I've NEVER seen in online play (yet).
That sounds a lot like splinter cell's co-op.

I've been a lifelong MG/S fan, and if i was going to buy a PS3 for a game, it was going to be this one, but now i'm not so sure enough they have done enough with the game to warrant such a massive price tag.

Look it's pretty obvious that if they could have made the game on a 25 gig without any noticeable loss in quality to any of the sound or textures then they wouldn't have gone with the more expensive 50 gig. Compression is quality loss, more space is a better outcome. What's most likely is that the game required more than a 25 gig yet less than a 50 gig, so they decided to take advantage of the spare data and uncompress.

If they required the bump up past 25 gigs, they sure as hell aren't getting it onto 7 gigs. If it was multiplatform it would require more than 4 discs. Why? Because Xbox 360 games only give you 7 gigs of data for that DVD9 thanks to their completely useless antipiracy software. So we need at least 4 in the first place, and then we need even more thanks to redundancy. The same data that needs to be on EVERY disc is going to drive it up further, now we're talking about maybe a 5 disc game with compression making it lower quality sound/video because otherwise the redundancy would shoot the game far past 5 discs.

Can it be done? Sure. It's just 1 strike against the possibility. The disc capacity isn't the biggest issue in my mind though, rather how many complex calculations need to be done simultaneously thanks to the massive technical carnage that's going on. This game is not small corridors with 4 monsters coming at you at a time, nor is it scaled back to 640 P. It's a beast from every angle that you look at it: the resolution, the sound, the engine, the AI, the atmospherics, the sheer numbers of enemies, how they react to rival factions and to you... and all this you can switch the entire gameplay mode instantly.

I'm sorry but I keep hearing that Bioshock is revolutionary because they throw in an RPG element and a second set of guns with prettier affects and a different name. Apparently some people never played the early Star Wars shooters, they're called "force powers," and some motherfucker named Kyle was doing them 10 years ago.

This is new.

I'd be willing to bet that they didn't stop at not compressing just the sound. They have more space than they could legitimately need, so why bother with efficiency, with trying to not waste the space just because it's there?

By your own logic, MGS4 won't sell a ton of consoles. The early adopters already have theirs, and the average gamers are going to wait until there's more reason to buy the console. The average gamers will pick it up in a year or two when the PS3 gets enough to make it worth buying; but they're not going to rush out and buy a PS3 just for a single game.

Won't sell more than Halo, because it's harder to get into it(Need to know the story etc), and chances are if they happen to be a new/casual gamer new to the series they'll end up buying MGS4 first cause it's NEW, and then expect that they can get into it like Halo, but then they turn into sad pandas cause they have no idea on what happend in MG, MG2, MGS1, MGS2, MGS3. This happened to MGS2, and MGS3. If people played the game starting from MG, or MGS1, I bet sales would be like 50% higher.

Though imo, there's ALOT more die hard gamers then new/casual gamers. More than likely the only people in the new/casual gamers are kids from like 8-10. With this said, MGS4 WILL sell alot, and IS a system seller. Will it sell more than bandwangon Halo? Of course not, but anyone who has played both MGS, and Halo, will agree with me that MGS is the better series.

I honestly dont know, but dont MGS games usually have like some kind of mode where you read about what happened in the past leading up to the game or something? I thought I remembered something like that in the first one or something, maybe im thinking of the intro to Deweys Adventure.

MGS had this, where you could read a summary of what happened in Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2.

Sons of Liberty had something similar, where you could read the fake novel written by Nastasha which basically told everything that happened in MGS, though reading it would have taken awhile as it was 180-some pages I think.

Snake Eater had no such feature, unfortunately.

Bingo, why read, when you should be playing through the game

MGS3 Subsistence did have MG1, and MG2 included in disk 2 though.

I've got to agree. It was a nice extra, but a little 10-15 page overview would have been a better idea.

really? XD ah well that's my fault for not playing it *shrugs* regardless.. it has more to it than other games I've seen. Obviously some things that are similar but ya...

I dunno, I don't claim MGS is gonna sell PS3 to 1st place or any BS.. but it's being highly underestimated by people I think.

What is this, "more to it" you speak of. I haven't really seen anything remoetly unique aside from the whole helping your teammate. Serious question, sorry if it sounds snooty.

If only there was some kind of repository of information, maybe even videos of the cutscenes...

Even those who played all of those games don't know what the fuck happened, so those "brand new" to the series aren't going to be very far behind those who did play the games.

Apparently you've never heard of the Wii.

It'll sell consoles, but no where near enough to let Sony finally enter the race for top console. The majority of those who would buy the console just for MGS4 already have it; only the small portion of stragglers are left to pick it up; everyone else is just going to wait for the PS3 to be worth getting or until it gets ported to the 360(if it gets ported).

Are we talking worldwide sales? I have a feeling MGS will sell more in that sense. But halo is a good computer game.. err.. 360 game.

Been watching Planet Earth this weekend. One of my roommate's mom watched it with me for a couple hours and wants to go pick it up now. Not sure what my favorite part is, but I was pretty surprised when I saw a 100 meter tall mound of bat shit in 1080 P.

Update; my apartment no longer contains an xbox 360. My roommate's just RROD'ed and he's going to have to send it to repair. He just bought it too for Halo 3.

The funny thing is we barely played it. Yet to finish Gears of War or Halo 3 and online has been too laggy via live.

Guess the rumors are true. ;o

Huh. What happened to the "all new 360's are now fixed of the RROD bug?"

New ones still don't have the new chipset. I think the Halo ones might, but not positive.

I haven't seen a game where you can also roll around on the ground and throw a grenade while on your back as well as the other stuff they've shown in other videos *shrugs* but then again, I've not played every game in the world so it might be in one.

Wrong lol. Look it up. Halo 3 broke all first day gaming sales world wide at $170 million. The first week it did $300 million worldwide. Not only broke but shattered records. It's selling well in Japan too. I read an article saying how it's starting to get popular over there.
