$400 40 gig rumor.

What the feck is so hard about saving money from each check you get. If people can buy $300 xbox, there's no reason why one can't save money for PS3.

Myself, Skaw, and Baj already posted the answer to this question. What the feck is so hard about understanding that?

For the price of an xbox premium and halo 3 (just the game most people are playing right now) would be less than the cost of the PS3 alone. You could maybe get lucky online and throw a copy of GoW into the mix and it would still be less expensive. For most, thats the 2 best games on the 360, and a 360, all for less than the cost of a PS3.

Dunno, the whole concept of the PS3 having no games seems to be very outdated. That was true back in February, but there's a whole lot of stuff that's come out since then. I've got something like 15 games, and although most of them are multiplatform, the very same goes for most of the 360 games I'd own.

Lost Planet = I have on PC.
Bioshock = I have on PC.
Gears of War = I'll get on PC next month - superior version than 360 too...

Not much else really interests me. Blue Dragon sucks and Eternal Sonata is multiplat now. I'd buy Halo but it's nothing to me other than another shooter. Certainly no better than Haze in my mind, and we've got the superior version of Unreal Tournament... and then Call of Duty 4 is mutliplat and makes a lot of the other shooters its bitch.

I don't have to pay for online. I can log on to Resistance and play on dedicated servers. Demos are coming every week.

Getting more exclusives out of my Wii than I would from a 360. Metroid Prime(when I get around to buying it), Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros and now Monster Hunter 3. The rest are mini games of course, damn you Nintendo.

So I guess absolutely everyone only loves first person shooters and big name titles. Nobody in the world likes sports games, which is what PS3 has... But I guess you could keep saying PS3 has 'no games' like your taste is exactly like everyone else's, its cool.

You don't think if the PS3 was cheaper more people would buy it just to have it for when the games do come out? Its about the money no matter which way you look at it.

Just some question for you Fire.

Why did you buy your PS3? Are you using it for all the features it has to offer? Would you have bought it as early as you did with the games that are out if you were only using it for gaming? Would you buy it now only for the games that are out now?

Dunno, don't really feel a direct price comparison is fair.

You have to factor in that with PS3 you get the bigger hard-drive, the blu-ray player, the wireless and the free online.

Now I dunno what that means to each of you. But to me, another 20 gigs, a blu-ray player, wireless internet and the online service is worth more than 50 bucks, which is the difference between the $400 PS3 and the $350 360.

To some people, without a high def TV, blu-ray player is pretty worthless. All you can say is maybe it'll save you 50 bucks in a few years when you replace your TV and get a high def. Already made up the difference though.

Or maybe the wireless is worthless to you, cause you sit next to a router and prefer wired for a superior connection. Then... well it's just worthless, I mean maybe you'll move your TV and system one day and it'll be convenient if you wanna play in your basement for some reason... but in that case not much matter.

Or maybe the 20 gigs is worthless to you, because 20 is enough, but you can always fill it up with MP3s.

Now the online service, this is highly personal. For me it's fine. Cross game voice chat's my only wish for the future, for when more people I know in real life get a PS3. Now that's for real life people, because I have no interest in chatting with random people I meet online. Even back when I was playing a lot of FFXI endgame I barely ever used Ventrillo, people had the yell at me to log in and then I'd mostly just listen. I'd like to chat with my real life friends tho, especially the ones who live elsewhere now. But most still use their PS2 now so doesn't matter. If I had 360 the only game to sell me on Xbox live is Halo 3. Can play the others on PC, PS3 or they're offline titles. To me that means Xbox essentially has no online cause I'd be picking up my multiplats for PS3 rather than pay 50 bucks. Considering the reliability issues, I'd much rather have the multiplats on PS3 anyway. Then if it breaks only lose the 360 exclusives when it's at repair.

When you look at these things, the value of the PS3 kinda shines. It's $400 and it's everything you'll need. 360 is everything for $350 that you MAY need, the Hard Driveless-less sku is unfathomable.

And in the end... if I had no high def TV, no intentions to go online, no need for the extra 20 gigs and no need for wireless, still I'd rather pay $50 for a more reliable system.

If I ALREADY had a 360 and was already paying for xbox live, my perspective might be entirely different. But ultimately Littlebigplanet would win me over.

I got my PS3 in January because I knew I'd get it eventually for Final Fantasy 13. I figured I might as well get it right away and enjoy other next gen titles during the wait. As far as the features go... I've filled up the 60 gig drive almost, use the wireless, use the web browser, use the blu-ray, use the media player, use the super-audio cd player and check out most of the demos and trailers on the PSN store.

If it was just a straight game machine and from day 1 that's all I used, then I'd have waited until March when Motorstorm, Oblivian and Enchanted Arms came out. By then there was enough of a library to keep me occupied. Since the summer I've had a huge backlog of games I haven't gotten time to finish, with like 10 games at least I'm going to get by the end of the year. Then top it off still got PS2 in my backlog to finish...

Very well thought out. Here's what i'm thinking about the whole deal.

To some people, without a high def TV, blu-ray player is pretty worthless. All you can say is maybe it'll save you 50 bucks in a few years when you replace your TV and get a high def. Already made up the difference though.

Very true, but most people will already have a decent sized DVD collection, and i don't know about you, but i don't want to have to re-buy everything i already own on DVD just to watch it on a PS3. Also, i don't have a high def tv and most people still plug the regular cords into the high def inputs. Can the PS3 play regular DVDs?

Or maybe the wireless is worthless to you, cause you sit next to a router and prefer wired for a superior connection. Then... well it's just worthless, I mean maybe you'll move your TV and system one day and it'll be convenient if you wanna play in your basement for some reason... but in that case not much matter.

Thats another problem. I don't know of many ISPs that would allow a very good connection of that. There is onnly really Comcast here, and they suck so bad i have to go straight from the xbox to the modem to play Halo 3 and i still lag sometimes.

Or maybe the 20 gigs is worthless to you, because 20 is enough, but you can always fill it up with MP3s.

I see this on par with the whole "Max MP debate issue" in FFXI. Its great to have sometimes, but when you are consistently sitting around half full, there really isn't a point to having it. You could fill it with MP3s, but i wouldn't say its really practicle to have that sheer ammount of MP3s.

Now the online service, this is highly personal. For me it's fine. Cross game voice chat's my only wish for the future, for when more people I know in real life get a PS3. Now that's for real life people, because I have no interest in chatting with random people I meet online. I'd like to chat with my real life friends tho, especially the ones who live elsewhere now. But most still use their PS2 now so doesn't matter. If I had 360 the only game to sell me on Xbox live is Halo 3.

Also highly personal for me. I love mixing it up with people most of the time over xbox live. There is nothing funnier that messing with the kids that can't be older than 10 that i would dominate in GoW. Another nifty feature is I'm sitting here playing eternal sonata and my friend wants to chat with me all the way from halo 3 is a pretty awesome feature to have. I never really felt like talking to people over XI either, because it was always such a serious enviroment. I had to turn of music and stay quiet so everyone could hear directions. I'd rather just read off the screne and be able to multi task.

When you look at these things, the value of the PS3 kinda shines. It's $400 and it's everything you'll need. 360 is everything for $350 that you MAY need, the Hard Driveless-less sku is unfathomable.

The thing that everyone should be able to agree on, and if you can't, you are either lying to yourself or just plain stupid.

This is the point where most people are stuck. Many people are in this situation or a mix of the situations you listed. I got my xbox for graduation and just made my xbl account gold since i've had it for a pretty massive ammount of time.

I don't know anything about littlebigplanet, though. So i can't comment.

As far as gaming, and gaming alone. I personally feel that the 360 still wins out for now. If i had a need for the features a PS3 gave, i would probably be on the oppisite side of the fence.

Double post.

Wow, i totally didn't know that the PS3 was $400 now. I thought it was still sitting at $500. Disregard that other post made by me.

All of the big sports games on PS3 are on 360 as well.

Buying something is a simple cost-benefit analysis; you pay X amount of dollars, you get Y amount of enjoyment from it. If all you are looking at is the technology of the system, PS3 is better, even though you pay more for the console, you get more features for the money. The problem though isn't the features on the hardware, it's the software, and that's why the PS3 isn't selling that well. For most people, the PS3 isn't worth buying right now because of the lack of unique software to justify spending the money; so most people are waiting for there to be enough Y to buy the system.

There are two ways to increase sales to the PS3, increase the Y or decrease the X. Release a bunch of incredible titles that receive more than "meh" from everyone, several must-haves that will justify the higher price tag. The other option is to make the console cheaper, so that while you might still get the same Y out of owning it, it'd be easier to justify because you're paying less X; increasing the ratio.

Everyone's X/Y ratio varies, depending on their own individual factors. Firstreak's is obviously lower than average, since he's an early adopter. I tend to be higher than average, since I want to make sure I'm not wasting my money. $400 is still too high for me given the very low amount of PS3 games I want to play. If they come out with more than just ratchet and clank, and the 2-3 other games I'm interested in, or they knock it down maybe another $100, I might pick one up.

Makelith, the PS3 can upscale your standard DVD's, so you don't have to rebuy the whole collection. It won't be quite as good as blu-ray, but they still look much better than standard definition.

Just to answer your first question, the PS3 not only plays DVDs but actually upscales them. Doesn't look as good as a Blu-ray at all but looks nice, depending on the DVD. Some really quality DVD titles like Saving Private Ryan almost look high def, but that's rare.

Oh yeah and this is the LittleBigPlanet game I mentioned...

Extremely cool looking 2.5D platformer, you get to build your own levels and then post them online and play through with your friends. Looks extremely good in play.

Dunno, the whole concept of the PS3 having no games seems to be very outdated.

Which is subject to opinion, really, and you go into -the same- approach in the remainder of your post. What you say for the 360 games one could easily say about the PS3 games. It's really a personal choice at this point at which system better suits their liking. The concept of "no games" will never be outdated for either system. It really isn't "no games" as much as having no games to ones liking that puts it above what they already have. As far as owning games on the PC that are, console wise only on the 360, you're the minority with the rest of the other PC gaming community. It's important that you do realize you're the minority especially when it comes to high end machines which it takes to run these games.

Yeah a couple of the 360 games do come out on the PC as well, but alot of gamers can't afford the $400 video card to run it plus a PS3 lol.

It's was a rumor at the start of this thread. It's not a rumor anymore.

And having an up-to-date PC is more important than any console. I get consoles in addition to my PC for offline multiplayer, GOOD Japanese RPGS(Note: That means not Mistwalker... Strid), media player(PS2 was my DVD player, PS3 my blu-ray), and some random console exclusives.

If you're talking about getting an Xbox 360 in addition to a good PC, I'm struggling for a reason. If you're talking about getting a 360 INSTEAD of a PC, I'm pointing and laughing.

And having an up-to-date PC is more important than any console.

Like I said, you are the minority here and within good reason. It may be important to -you- but that's just you.

GOOD Japanese RPGS(Note: That means not Mistwalker... Strid)

As I said earlier, that's your opinion. I know the Mistwalker crew chapped your ass when they left SE but that's not a fair basis on calling them a bad development studio. Hell, they've only put out one game and it owns. By the way, what JRPG do you have in your PS3 collection right now?

You can stop justifying your buy to me, I don't care. You get everything you need out of your PS3 and good PC while I get everything I need out of my 360 and my decent PC. That's all that matters and that's all I was pointing out earlier, how you missed it, I have no clue.

PS3 plays DVDs fine.. hehe

my computer hasn't been updated since 2000 or 2002 (I forget) and I can still run those games that have come out :P (granted, it's not the best but it runs)

Not really, but the PC vs Console debate is bleh and a waste of my time.

No, all that matters is they make bad games. I've played Blue Dragon, it's bad. Eternal Sonata = good. Blue Dragon = bad. Enchanted Arms = decent.

Why is it bad? Because while the graphics are technically impressive... the characters are stupid looking, the story is 5 year olds and the gameplay is like playing an old SNES RPG.

And by the way... those 3 games, 1 is a 360 exclusive, guess what? The bad one. I'd rather have 1 JRPG from an excellent developer - Factor 5, then have Mistwalker shit out a crappy jRPG every year to get paid off by Microsoft.

You can stop justifying your buy to me, I don't care. You get everything you need out of your PS3 and good PC while I get everything I need out of my 360 and my decent PC. That's all that matters and that's all I was pointing out earlier, how you missed it, I have no clue.

First off, I could care less if you're impressed with my buying choices. All that matters is when you come here chanting, "PS3 has no games." Please. PS3 has tons of games, and tons of games coming and hardware wise, leaves the 360 in the dust.

The truth of the matter is we're all a little dissatisfied, because in reality there's no reason for both the PS3 and 360 to exist. It would have been better for all if the PS3 and 360 were a combined console done by Sony and MS together, essentially Sony's hardware expertise combined with Microsoft's software expertise. Because really they're too similar and the split in base is driving the Wii to domination. Plunking down $400 for a PS360 would be a no brainer. But instead we have to assemble our exclusives, consider the hardware and price difference and make a choice.

Then tell everyone else their choice is wrong.

Well nobody knows for sure if Mist Walker is gonna be a bad company. They've only put out Blue Dragon so far. Ill wait til Lost Oddessey to make my claim.

First off, I could care less if you're impressed with my buying choices.

You persist and insult therefore you care.

All that matters is when you come here chanting, "PS3 has no games."

You didn't get it, figures. I'll bold it for you.

That's what I "chanted".

You're the one who started the stupid shit. For reminder: "But what's apparent from earlier in this thread, they're just too fucking broke to buy one" give me a fuckin' break.
