$400 40 gig rumor.

Well stuff like Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, WiiWare, all that hasnt even come out yet, and im sure they'll all boost sales in some way.
Nintendo will eventually just buy the world and we'll all be able to jump around planets to kill bee queens. It'll be awesome! At least for me.

Ah I forgot Mario Kart and Final Fantasy CC. Mario Kart alone should move the system especially if it has online play like it should. I'm still on the fence about mario galaxy. I miss the old side scrolling marios. Don't get me wrong Mario 64 was amazing, but I want the old run and jump that pissed me off when I would make a mistake repeatedly. Final Fantasy I'm not sure about I wasn't a fan of the first one because I couldn't get enough friends to play it with me so I was stuck doing it solo.

I want to see the PS3 succeed, but releasing smaller HD and dropping certain support like backwards compatibility with out even emulation wont move the system. If anything it will steer them away.

I agree, also I think FF:CC for Wii is gonna be mainly single player based this time (sad for me, i loved the multiplayer) but either way im sure it will be great! Also the FF:CC WiiWare title looks amazing too! I thought WiiWare was gonna be 2bit crap that some random joe made in his closet, but to see full support from Square-enix makes me think its gonna be huge. :o~

I was a little interested in the Bigs but decided to steer clear after an explanation of the batting mechanics. You aim with the nunchuck's stick, seriously wtf? Last Wii game I bought was Paper Mario and no complaints there. I'll pick up Metroid eventually but still gotta actually finish Paper Mario...

and Odin Sphere...
and GRAW 2, and The Darkness(so I can sell it back), and Lair... and Zelda: Twilight princess.... and bioshock... and lost planet... and rogue galaxy... xenogears... and xenosaga 2 and 3... and suikoden 5... and final fantasy 8 at some point... and god of war 2...

god damn my backlog just keeps building and building... I need to go to class less or I'll get totally game swamped with folklore, ratchet and clank... uncharted, call of duty 4...

lol yeah Nintendo is set. They put out games that appeal to the masses and it's doing really well. Xbox has more units but only like 500k more worldwide. Thats nothing considering it had a year start.

Alot of people here might not like the games because of lack of story, or graphics or mindless fun....but it's still FUN and thats what alot of people are looking for. If everything on the Wii sucked, they wouldnt be sitting at 11 million units sold thats for sure lol. They have a very strong lineup that might catapult it to no.1 over the xbox by Feb. I know Mass Effect is gonna be a great game (i can't wait for that title), but lets face it...Mario and Nintendo's mascots are the most popular characters in the world and they have a total 4-5 titles coming up.

The Wii passed the Xbox 360 already worldwide. The U.S. is a funny market. The only one that 360 is doing well in(and it's doing really well here), and it's the only market where HD DVD is still hanging on. Like in Europe it's Blu-ray: HD DVD 4-1, in Japan it's something like 19:1 and in the US it's only 2:1. Probably because the 360 add-on.

I heard that the Wii overtook the 360 about a couple months ago(end of july), although that might have shifted back with the release of Halo 3.

It's strange because in real life, anecdotally, my roommate bought a 360 for Halo 3, and some other people as well got 360 for Halo 3. However it hasn't moved as many systems and people maybe expected. In Europe the new PS3 sku cut the legs out from under it. In Japan it sold like 3000 Xbox 360s and then dropped off into oblivian. In the US I guess they underestimated how many Halo 3 buyers already had the 360. Hence the smaller than expected hardware boost and larger than expected software sales.

Games like Mario Party 8 sell because they have a loyal following and they are mindless fun.

Because Heavenly Sword is an incredibly deep, thought provoking game.

Free online is risky, I'd rather pay the incredibly small fee XBL asks, knowing master servers aren't going to be shutdown because of a titles age showing and their developing company dropping the support for it. You really put way too much emphasis on $4.17 a month, for someone thats okay with spending $60 on a 5 hour multiplayerless game, Fire. Thats 14 cents a day. How dare us 360 owners accept that WAY WAY WAY too easily! Not to mention, the download speeds of hosted content is significantly faster than PS3s from what several of my dual-ownership friends claim.

You've obviously never played Heavenly Sword and are bashing it based on being a dumbass.

$50 a year might be worth it if they provided dedicated servers. As of now, Resistance and Warhawk has dedicated servers and Gears and and Halo 3 is all peer to peer. One is free and the other costs.

Anecdotally I was able to download the Ratchet and Clank demo, the night it came out, in less than an hour. It took me about a week to download the year old Dead Rising demo, which sucked balls by the way.

Do I need to? Did you buy the game because of the story being advertised to you, or because you saw the fighting system? I can give you a hint what most people dropped the money down for, but it's pretty obvious what most people wanted from the game.

You've obviously never played Mario Party and are bashing it based on being a dumbass. How dare you ignore the story behind the games.

Regardless, you're obviously happy spending the $60 on 5 hours of enjoyment, but seem upset that people spend less for 8760.

I bought the original Mario Party when it came out. And I played Mario Party 8.

Warioware is better if you're into that kinda thing.

And by the way, before I bought Heavenly Sword I'd already seen 5 animated high def videos about the back story, done by the Samurai Jack people, and I'd learned that the story was done by Terry Prachett's daughter... plus I'd played the demo about 20 times to get a feel for the mechanics.

Actually in July it was estimated that the Wii would take over world wide. After Halo it is still down 500k units (which is nothing).

-space is not an issue

-Lower cost than 60GB

-Keep your PS2

I'd still go for 60GB over the 40GB, but I'd get the 40GB over the 20, and 80GBs once the 60s run out.

When I got mine, there was a ps2 trade-in deal, and I saved over a hundred bucks.

I just thought it was weird they would exclude backwards compatibility, because the ps2 library is so great.

what pasquale said. It seems great until you find it's only Back compatible with PS1 games. "Keep your PS2" kinda seems to negate the reason for getting a PS3 in the first place, at least to me.

Is there a difference in what you get between the 80GB and the 60GB, or at least are they planning on dropping the 60GB price soon to like $550? Its just seems soooooo stupid to have them be the same price.

60 GB = $500 now

80GB has some backwards comp. with PS2 games. However 60GB has full comp.

A $50 drop on the 60GB maybe.

The 60GB is the one I'd go for, if I was inclined to pick up a PS3 anytime soon.

I love the bit of spin I read earlier from one of the Sony guys. Basically, a 40GB PS3 and a PS2 were still cheaper than an 80GB model, so it's a great deal!

Completely missing the fucking point of backwards compatibility, of course. /sigh
