The White House blamed the 78-year-old man whom Vice President Dick Cheney shot during a weekend quail hunting trip in Texas for the incident, as officials struggled Monday to explain why they waited nearly 24 hours before making the news public...

The man can't tell the difference between a 78 year old man and Bird. And we let him make decisions for our country?

Several hunting experts were skeptical of McClellan's explanation. They said Cheney might have violated a cardinal rule of hunting: Know your surroundings before you pull the trigger.

"Particularly identify the game that you are shooting and particularly identify your surroundings, that it's safe to shoot," said Mark Birkhauser, the incoming president of the International Hunter Education Association, a group of fish and wildlife agencies. "Every second, you're adjusting your personal information that it is a safe area to shoot or it's not a safe area to shoot."

Safe-hunting rules published by the National Rifle Association and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department echo Birkhauser's advice.

"Be absolutely sure you have identified your target beyond any doubt," the NRA says in the gun-safety rules on its Web site. "Equally important, be aware of the area beyond your target. This means observing your prospective area of fire before you shoot. Never fire in a direction in which there are people or any other potential for mishap. Think first. Shoot second."

Maybe if he had a liscense or any sort of training on hunters safety at all, this wouldn't have happened.

Maybe if he had been in Washington doin his job instead of killing 70+ birds for sport, this wouldn't have happened.

So lets see...
Almost never in washington.
When he is there, he tells his Colleagues to "Go fuck yourself"
Can't tell the difference between a Duck and an Old man.
Spends taxpayers money to go to a private retreat, where tax payers aren't allowed to be, to go kill more game than is Neccesary.
The man would lie about his shoe size if he thought it would further his career.

Why is he the Vice President?
Has he done anything except try and scare the country into voting for GWB?

I heard about this from my dentist and couldn't stop laughing lol

I think the best line about this came from Letterman who said: 'We can't get Bin Laden, but we nailed a 78-year old attorney."

When your bird hunting if you leave the nucleus and come back in, you are suppose to announce your return in so things like this don't happen. Cheney and the 78 year old man are both to blame. This stuff does happen, he's not the first man to do stuff like this. This is what a lot of people told me at work today. And they are all rednecks who come to talk to the people who work at a gas station, they know what they are talking about. ;p

Maybe an accountant has done this too, and he audits 3Ms financial statements...does that fact make him any less capable? The hate government propaganda totally sucks. ; ;

I hear about this, and I laugh my ass off. I don't think he should resign or anything over it though.

ummm... Maybe it had something to do with the Nitrus...

Cause I mean, this isn't really funny.

If the situation was reversed and cheney got shot in the face, the old man would never see the light of day again.

Hurray for double standards!

Perhaps he wasn't hunting a quail at all, maybe he was hunting....

And the plot thickens like month-old pudding XD

But in all seriousness, my condolences to the gentleman, and the family of the gentleman that got shot.

Maybe he figured he'd do the old guy a favor and put him outta his misery since Cheney was gonna cut off his medicare anywayz.

:spiteful:

End the suffering!

Dont you just love government figures

Both Cheney and His friend are to blame. They both broke cardinal rules of hunting. Thank god it was only birdshot.

You know, the administration stance has always been hunting terrorists. Why not start with a high $ attorney?

Seriously, it cracks me up how bush haters are using this as fodder. Pretty thin arguments there Trip.

dood.. he's the vice president. he doesn't decide shit for the country really.. his job is to be the deciding vote if their's an equal split in the senate, true, but that HARDLY happens... his other job is to attend funerals. VP is a joke job.

You should have a look at Bob Woodward's Plan of Attack, which is just a collection of interviews, and next to no writer's opinion mingled in. If it weren't for Cheney, then there would have been no Iraq invasion. If there is someone who doesn't decide shit for the country, then it's Dubya, he just does as he is told.

Blah hunting accidents happen every year. I don't think that is really all that bad. The guy is still alive. The president flipping off the camera though that is comedy.

As much as I dislike Bush-Cheney and everything they've done to our country, I have to say the reason why they're called "hunting accidents" is because they're just that: accidents. Shit happens, and I can give him a pass on that.

The part that frosts my balls is that they didn't seem inclined to tell anyone about it. Scott McClellan is like one of those inflatable dolls you keep punching and they just bounce right back up, although in his case he pops back up uttering the same inane excuses and dodges around every question. It was nice reading about David Gregory taking a chunk out of his ass.

MR. McCLELLAN: They contacted the local -- Mrs. Armstrong contacted the local paper early Sunday morning.

Q Scott, that's not the answer to the question. Come on. You're totally ducking and weaving here.

MR. McCLELLAN: No, I'm not.

Q You are, Scott. We don't --

MR. McCLELLAN: I'm telling you what the Vice President's Office --

Q We don't care if some ranch owner calls a local paper.

MR. McCLELLAN: Hold on. Cameras aren't on right now. You can do this later.

Q You know what, Scott? You may think that's cute and funny, but you're not answering the question, and that's a dodge. And don't accuse me of trying to pose for the cameras. Don't be a jerk to me, personally. When I'm asking you a serious question, you should give us a serious answer --

MR. McCLELLAN: You don't have to yell.

Q -- instead of jerking us around.

MR. McCLELLAN: You don't have to yell.

Q I will yell. If you want to use that podium and try to take shots at me personally, which I don't appreciate, then I will raise my voice, because that's wrong.

MR. McCLELLAN: Calm down, David.

Q So answer the question.

MR. McCLELLAN: Calm down.

Q I'll calm down when I feel like calming down. You answer the question.

MR. McCLELLAN: I have answered the question, and I'm sorry you're getting all riled up about it.

Q I am riled up because you're not answering the question....

Edit: Here are additional excerpts from the press gaggle. Fun reading if you want to see a master at work.
