78 year old man blamed for having face in front of VPs shotgun.

So if you are dick chaney all you have to do is take the guy to a hunting trip and shoot him there?

that's not in the job description of VP though :P advising the President he can but that's not his job XD and dick cheney was in a coma since sometime around 9/11
Someone should have told Dick that before he shipped our boys to die in some godforsaken sand. And someone else should have told Dubya to not listen to Dick. Who gives a fuck about Iraq anyway, they should all just kill each other and be done with it, throw Israel and Palestine in there as well, and then pave the whole area to be one big Wal-Mart parking lot.

I want world peace as much as the next guy (unless the next guy is working for U.S. weapon manufacturers or holds any sort of defense contractor job or stock), but neither of those dudes down there is being reasonable about to, so just get rid of them all.

They seperated, he popped up and got shot,.. whoopie friggin do.. he's fine. He's not dead. Stop bitching and trying to make a big deal out of something that is COMMON in hunting mistakes. How many times have you played a gun game and shot a civi cause they popped out of nowhere? PLENTY if you have ever played it. Does this mean you should never own a gun?
Shut up.. please.. -.-

I think the main point of contention is that the news was intentionally delayed to not make the Sunday morning news cycle.

Perhaps because they knew the media would sensationalize it when in reality it isn't important in the slightest, much like 100% of tabloid content. Hunting accidents happen. If you want to accuse him of intentially shooting one of his hunting buddies do it and provide some motive. Otherwise drop it and discuss something of actual importance.

It's not that he accidentally shot a guy, Rones. That happens, and it's worth a forgettable chuckle since they guy lived.

If they'd simply issued a press release or some damned thing instead of acting all cloak-and-daggery evasive about it and pretending they were "getting reports" throughout the day and getting their messages by A) Pony Express or B) Carrier Pigeon instead of C) Secret Service agents sending a terse "The vice-president accidentally shot a man but is unharmed himself" to the situation room, they could've gotten off with a few jokes on Letterman instead of making themselves look like incompetent fuckups yet again in the bargain.

I own so much on Light Gun games, I shoot the civilians for fun! XD

Hafto agree with Sculli. This isn't groundbreaking news. That's like saying "TRACES OF COCAINE FOUND ON PRESIDENT'S $1 BILL"

(traces can be found on over 80% of bills in the US. So pfft.)

Hunting accidents happen. Should it have been announced right away, yes. But then again where was the uproar when it took days to report the missing girl under the water in Teddy Kennedys car???

It's the land of the free last I checked, and as such it is up to the people to decide what's important to them and what is not.

The news was intentionally delayed to not show up on Sunday morning's front page. The VP is always "on the clock", 24/7, that is what he signed up for, and especially this VP knew that before he joined up. The public is entitled to be informed about accidents that involve senior top level U.S. government officials, regardless of the circumstances.

I wouldn't dream to think that this was anything but a hunting accident. No amount of collective bitching is going to make the VP feel any worse than he felt when he realized that he just pumped some birdshot into an old guy. The issue is absolutely not about the actual accident (at least to me it isn't).

On a more practical side, imagine how much faster the attorney could have been recovering if people had known about this before going to church on Sunday. Millions of people would have prayed for his speedy recovery during Sunday mass. /nod

This is a bunch of nonsense. The only reason the media is still harping on about this bull crap is because Cheney decided to have a local media organization release the story. Heaven forbid the main stream media not be the ones to release the story first.

Um... shooting someone vs. "having" cocaine? Hardly comparable.

It's professional negligence, in the end..my example wasn't all that good I admit...but all the same it's something that happens more often than people think. Shouldn't go putting a person under a lamp because of what he did just because of his status.

This is just crappy media fodder, in my opinion. You want better examples? There was some huge deal about Peewee Herman getting caught doing crap in a porn theatre. There was some huge deal about a woman dying while watching Passion of the Christ. There was a bunchof crap on R. Kelly that I don't even wanna talk about. That stuff isn't exactly common, but it's not at all rare. It's just the media using a famous name to get a bunchof attention in the end. =/

Of course we have no way of knowing, but chances are that if he had released it to the local media the same afternoon, everything would have been fine. AP would have picked it up in seconds after it was posted and that would have been that.

I also wonder how many people here were screaming it is his private life when the Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky thing was going on. Now that Cheney has done something everyone must know.

When normal people do something outrageous, their peers gossip about it. When celebrities do something out of the ordinary, the media displays it for everyone to look at over and over. Such is the world. Personally, I wouldn't have noticed this happened if it weren't for QCDN, I don't watch the news, I don't concentrate on any lives except the ones that are around me.

I admit, I was screaming, for the release of a vividly detailed account of what exactly happened that eveing in the oval office.

At least to me this isn't a partisan issue.

And what if the old man pissed off chaney and he killed him. Then said it was an accident...how can u mistake an old man for a bird..

I don't think this is just about jumping on a celebrity. A lot of what we in the media do is crap, but I think there are a few important issues at the heart of this one.

If Bush crashes his bike, they release the information so it doesn't look like they're covering up embarrassing details about the president. The vice president accidentally shooting a man in the face is a little more serious than a mountain bike accident. Now, coupled with the fact they wouldn't answer simple questions like "When did Bush find out Cheney was the shooter and not the victim?" should always raise red flags.

This is not an administration in love with transparency. They prefer to work in secret with very little oversight, and that's the sort of thing which should scare the piss out of people. Bush can say "Trust me," all he wants, but the reporter's credo is "If your mother tells you she loves you, check it out first."

Frankly, I'm glad to see the White House press acting more like reporters instead of stenographers. If they're jumping on Cheney with a little extra zeal than you think the story merits, it's probably because they're getting tired of the bullshit.
