I've been becoming really angry with the market lately... and not because it's not putting out for me just because it's making people bitter towards the crafters when it's really the fault of the people who sell the materials to make certain items. My first craft was cooking, which I enjoyed for the time I had it at 95... but it wasn't enormous profit. In fact, it usually was break even at best, but at the time large amounts of money weren't needed.

As the game progressed and markets got inflated due to gil selling, cooking really did not cut it anymore... at least then it didn't, because at the time people only wanted mithkabobs and pies... the cook had little to no other options to look at for money... maybe insect paste for fishing or the occasional juice, but we lacked a variety market... and in that I became bored with the craft. Now that SE added and messed with several food recipes, it looks like I missed out on a great revolution that probably saved Cooking as a craft for profit... as everyone knows, consumables are always being sold because they are depleting themselves. Items such as equipment, once made, are distributed within the loop of players. Players use the item, and then sell them when they're done. The item never disappears, like a mithkabob would after use. How many more sniper rings can we crafters make before everyone has one already? Where do they all go at some point? Are there really that many characters on Quetzalcoatl that we can sell over 15-20 rings a day and still have major demand?

This isn't my gripe, so much as is the constant nagging I get from both friends and strangers that I'm 'greedy' because I don't give everyone a painful discount, and I mean absolutely atrocious discount that would basically be like me BUYING the damned thing for them... and because of that it's my fault the economy is fucked up. This is something I think needs to be set straight. I'm more than willing to be charitable and try to help someone out. When I do commission synthing I only ask 1/2 the profit I'd make off the +1 myself... what is bad about that!? You want an Amemit +1, is it so much to ask 250k if a +1 pops out? If it only takes 1 skin for your mantle, you just paid 450 fucking k for an amemit +1!

IS THAT NOT GOOD ENOUGH!? Am I supposed to be taking my hard earned crafting levels, which cost ME my entire game savings since I started to make YOU rich? I'm lucky if I even profit off my own craft, in most of the time I'm blowing up shit and losing money rather than making it!

I think what made me bitter was people taking my goodwill (I never used to charge for synths) and then using my crafting to make themselves money. I lie not... when I made Scoobor an Amemit+1, he was my first commission work. He bought 1 skin (1 skin?) and it HQ'ed. I didn't ask for anything, because I was certain he wanted to use it and I felt good that I saved someone money because they took the risk. So I'm browsing the AH the next morning and checking on Amemit sales history to see if my competitoin is making any progress or what I might have missed... what do I see?

Scoobor -> Someoneelse 800,000G

I was fucking FURIOUS! Not only did he blatantly go and sell something I made out of charity, but at a profit to himself! He said he was "drunk" when he sold it -my ass-... or that he was quitting... great... well you're welcome because I could have bought that same skin and that could have been my profit instead!!

The very next day someone I considered a friend asked me to HQ him something (else) which was within reasonable possibility. I found out only a few hours later he sold them off on the AH for profit... W T F!? At this point I think I said -fuck it- and no longer felt charitable or generous... so this is why I seem bitter about letting people use me to craft things... and I don't think its too much to ask commission on something that obviously is saving YOU the money. If I make something for someone that doesn't sell at a profit, I don't charge! Cause that'd be a waste. But you know, I made my bud U7 a nomad+1 today and asked for 150k for it... that's a 500k mantle he got for 210k (150k + traveller mantle cost) is that me being greedy!?

The other thing people nag me about is that I sell shit too expensive. Well gee, you camp an NM, I buy his drops on a regular basis for a price I'm comfortable with, and so do other crafters... one day you think "I WANT MORE MONEYZ!" and jack it up another 100k... well look at it this way people... you don't fucking hurt the crafters by jacking your synth materials up, you only make people angry at US for your greed. Profit margin for an Amemit Mantle goes like this.

Skin x 5 = value of Amemit +1
Which means, 1 HQ in 5 tries is break even or a tiny loss on average.
5 NQ in a row is a major hit to the wallet you see... and all in all unless we get really realy lucky we don't see a major profit out of it. We're basically gambling on these and hoping for that fluke 2/5 which will make a sizeable profit.

So... when skins were 160k, the +1 was 800k... 160k x 5... get it? Got it? Good. Follow along kids. You jacked the price of skins to 200k. Suddenly HQ amemit mantles jump to 1mil... I got 2 tells about it the day after i sold those telling me to stop being a greedy fag and keep the price down... FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! It's bad enough i'm gambling my own money here to bring you what you want, should I make it even harder on myself to do this!? Are crafters not allowed to make money for the gil they invest in their craft!? I'm still 18mil in deficit here that needs to be made up, you know how MANY HQ synths and the like it will take me to come back to what I had before that? Should I not be able to take that hard earned number I blew so much money on and be able to make it back? Or do I have to sit and camp NMs and HNMs till my eyes bleed and that be the only way to make money in this game for me?

Well as it stands, you greedy campers have jacked these skins to 300k... again, I want everyone to stop harassing the crafters about it and point fingers at the campers who want more money for their crap. After all is said and done, we don't make anything extra off it, just you money hungry slobs who sit around a stupid lizard spawn for several hours... you slobs who turn friends into foes over a stupid HNM, you slobs who MPK each other just because you were beaten to the claim, you slobs who use automatons and bots to claim things while you're AFK...

Man... none of this is directed to anyone in particular... but you know, just lay the fuck off the crafters please, and remember that in most cases, those equips you're wearing often took money OUT of our pockets and into yours.

You may be the only leather crafter that reached 100, but many many leather crafters and also other crafters who are JP in a big guild surely are not "nice" people. They really dominate the crafting market and price are controled by them.

None the less, people always try to find excuses and someone to blame to. Without considering the truth and in fact some or maybe many things are their fault.

Yeah there are a few people I've come to sort of "know" just by looking at the price history... I sure as hell know I'm not the ONLY lvl 100 leatherworker... there were many JP who got there way before me... I just know there aren't -many-... and I don't know if any NA have made it that far on our server yet. But yeah, they do seem to dominate certain markets (this guy Junkim/Zcbm, who I'm almost 100% positive is the same person) buys out every single archer ring on the AH. However... a lot more things sell for a loss or break even than anything else... we only have the occasional HQ to make money off of in the current time...

From what I've seen though it looks like there are way more 100s in leathercrafters than most other crafts x_X;

Personally I think the leathercraft product prices are fair... and in most cases, too generous, but its because there are exponentially more people in the mid 90s or at 90 who -can- make some of these things, but not with the same HQ possibility as those who are 1 level above them, or are 2 levels above, and so on and so on.

It's 3 AM forgive me if I'm rambling -_-

I completly agree with your post Svina, but I doubt you will find my compassion here, since you are one of the handful of NA players on our server that has a craft skill to 100. BTW Congrats on getting to 100~! Also do you charge extra if someone wants their synth signed ^^

When I asked high level crafters to synth me stuff (my Crimson Set) I would have to buy them the supplys and then I would get charged 20-50k for them to synth it. If they synthed a +1, they would keep it and synth me another free of charge or allow me to buy the +1 for a discount that I still could not afford at the time ;p

Nah dont cost me anything extra to sign stuff (just guild points)... so why charge?

Is this a question of "If I don't buy it, someone else will?"

I understand that the mantles are great profit (if HQ'd) and there are likely less than 50 people on the server who have a real chance at the 2/5 HQ ratio... would simply not buying the skins drive the price down? Or are the other high level leatherworkers going to buy them out regardless of how high the price goes?

Well idunno bout the other leatherworkers, but I assure you if it starts to cut into their wallets too much they too will stop buying the skins, like I have.

i remember when REGULAR amemnit mantles were 150k.... man that was way back.

in the instance of you crafting something for someone and them going and selling it, thats bullshit

I think our server's NA crafting community is seriously lacking compared to reading forums for other servers etc where there are multiple level 100's in several of the expensive skills already... I dunno why... just seems this server has less of a english crafting community then most other servers.

what i think is...

svina shoulda went 3 for 3 on my HQ nomad's lmao...

thanks btw... and i didn't complain when he told me his service charge. service charge, imo, is a given, friend or foe.

like he said, he didn't get 100 in leathercraft for someone else... he did it for himself to make HIM profit... not anyone else.

just make sure to hook a friend up tho' ^^

behemoth mantle +1 please, thanks.

People will always be greedy Svina and expect you to give them "free goods" out of friendship.

Ignore them. You have a right to charge them, because you poured money to get your craft to 100, not them.

=) Congrats tho...

Sniper's Ring +1 O_O Nice profit there!

Taking the time out to synth something for someone and then having them just turn around in less than a day and put it up at the AH for profit is just plain wrong any way you look at it. It's basically reaping the benefits of a very high level crafter without doing ANY of the work.

I've been working on my crafting for a bit now here and there and I am looking forward to making items for people who need them but it's discouraging to hear of people acting like this. I don't want to waste my time and money just so other people can make profit off of me. I'm doing it to not only solve my future gil problems but also to be helpful. If people start exploiting and taking advantage of this, then next to botting, gil selling and mob training what is left in this game that makes it fun?

Oh god, you nailed it Svina!!! I'm not gonna repeat everything that's been said here but maybe add to it a little. Yes, people feel like they can ask you to craft something for them free of charge. I had a level 26 DRG not to long ago that basically ran up to me, initiated a trade to give me 5 cerment lance... THEN said Hi, can you make me Ice Lances?? I mean, WTH? He even tried to tell me he wanted a +1 for when he reaches level 73... lol!!!

Now, usually I personnaly get requests from people I do not know only occasionnaly. In those cases, I charge a fee for even attempting the synth, no matter the outcome AND I always make sure they are aware that a synth can still fail, at any level!!! I'm not paying for the material if it does. You don't want to take a small risk? Raise your skill yourself then. Fortunately, it never happened! :)

Now when it's something for a LS member that I know well, that's another story. I mostly charge nothing. If it's HQ, we can either sell it and split or the other guy can keep it. Reason why I am doing this is that I have an amazing LS that is really really helpfull. Almost every craft is well represented, so we help each other out that way. I also made a lot of missions and quests with people from my ls that just helped me out (ranks, AF, etc.) free of charge. It costed them time and money to get to level 55+ so the least I can do is return the favor.

Hard part is where to draw the line. Also, if I decide to do something for free, it's my decision. I think what every crafter hates is people that ASSUMES it will be free.

And one more thing that I am so glad you pointed out Svina, material cost. A lot of people now jacked the prices of crystals (fire is unbeliveable now) and other material and then complain about the increase in armor or weapons prices....

Svina, you are free to charge whatever amount you want for your goods. Especially after investing above 20 mil Gil on your craft. Don't let people who want top-tier gear for practically free get their way.

Svina as an up and rising clothcrafter, I agree wholeheartedly with you.

This is our way of making gil, we have spent many hours getting this high in our craft and now people want to pressure us into giving them rediculise discounts. I am lucky in that my LS has been realy realy cool about the requests, I have not had to make anything like the amenint mantle, where the + 1 is the only thing worth jack, so normaly it has been send me the materials, I +1 it and I expect an apropriate donation. People kept asking me for a Vermilion Cloak lately, my response has been time and again, supply me the materials and I will be more then happy to make it. Their next question is, what are the materials, they go and crunch some numbers and they realize just how razor thin my profit margins are. (If I where to full fail one I would need to make like 30 of them to break even...)

Anttaru:>> Take the Cockatrice out with a THF with TH2, and it's garunteed they will drop stacks of what your there for, within an hour.
Anttaru:>> Then the value goes up, and you run it. You see some new characters, and you say to them "You want to be Rich like me O_0?" And there actually are people that will say <Yes Please>.
Anttaru:>> By this time your still absorbing the Cocatrice market, and that is a little thing on your side so you can make Gil in your sleep. GIVE the high and low quality food synths to your new workerss to run off on a mission to sell it to those who are now craving due to lack of marketing, Trust me they will show face through your profit and you will not even see unless you run down and sell them yourself.

Anttaru:>> They would be like a coffee truck, in a construction area. And very happy and content with the money their leader is sharing with them, your workers has found their new role. Get your "mule/mules" to talk to your "friends mules" out in public places, and rant on about how food makes your characters so amazing. Let word of mouth bring fame to the food, and how food makes you and the entire party/alliance so much more faster at handeling demanding and even sooo much more average battle tasks.

My best guess is things like +1 items are things more people have a tendancy to keep, rather sell. Giving the Crafters the upper hand in writing it's price.

Well you can also point fingers at people who buy the Skins at the high price. In other words who in their right mind would lower the price if they are selling. Remember the majority of people who deliver Amemet to Jeuno, work in parties and share the income. True glitch is the fact the Amemet Mantle needs to be jacked, so it can bring ballance to the loss of NQ. It's way too fuggin cheap. And i'm sure if people wern't imprisioned by others selling it for pennys they would be happy to sell the Amemet Mantle for a higher price. And it would put a finer amburse in the Leathercrafters wallet. As for people who harass and complain about Leathercrafters deals being too high, they would sell the item at jeuno markets price if they had it. They have no reason not to.

Your a true Bussiness man. Just don't let foul mouth clients give you a sense they are putting a label on you. A majority of players would like to be able to do the things you do with Gil, and anyone willing enough to spread how you won't craft a million dollar item for free, will only look like a Donkey. Why care if they can't effect you ?

If my memory of the price history serves me correctly ant, you were the first to jack skins to 200k ;)

Just sayin'.
