ArcaneGarden just finished three pops for the O-hat with 11 people, 3 of whom didn't have a lv 75 job yet, and 4 of whom were on jobs currently lower than 75. All 3 attempts were successful.

I'm just curious, post your experiences with the fewest number of people you've ever done an O-Hat run before.

Congrats on the hats!

At first glance this looked more like the start of a flame, courtesy of the title. >_>

A couple bst friends of mine did my Ohat run for me.

In reference to the original post, Me > Hakutaku, that is all.

Last time i did a Hakutau it was a standard pt of 6. Same with a BQ but we actually needed one more for the BQ to win it.... wiped at <10%

Seems like quite a few people kill Hakutakku with similar ease these days. Remember about 3 years ago when people would refuse to risk it with less than a full alliance, including 2 NIN tanks?

How times have changed.

Last time I did a HKTK run someone in my social shell had just hit 70 rng and had been having bad luck with pickup parties, including one wipe with his cluster. So we were hanging around one day with a few pimp 75's in the shell and decided to go kill it for him. We had a single party, our group was something like:

75 Nin/war
75 War/nin
75 Brd/nin
75 Blm/whm
72ish Whm
70 Rng

It was a very easy fight, took maybe 10 minutes.

Did we have a brd/nin in there? really? I think we had a couple more people /whm for paralyna spam. Or is this something different than i remember!?

Moved to Endgame discussion with permanent redirect. Discussion of NMs and such fit guidelines there better.

I've done the fight with 3 BST before. 4 BST is easier and lots safer, but 3 BST is very possible.

I've heard stories of only 2 BSTs taking Hakutaku down, though, and there have even been some BST solo attempts.

3 BST and 1 SMN.

The Pimps were there a few weeks ago and it was like a picnic. I even saw Sneakypants soloing him for a few minutes with that Homam Armor...

I've heard of BST's duoing Hakutakku. I could see a BST potentially soloing Hakutakku as well. Any other job I'd be skeptical of soloing it.

The combination of AM, -ga spells, a nasty paralyze (Hex Eye), strong resistance to debuffs (anyone but a RDM generally has their debuffs wear in a few seconds, if they stick at all), damage that bypasses shadows (Death Ray, Blaze Spikes) and hard hitting melee attacks (400-500 damage per hit to a LV 75 melee with Berserk up is fresh in my mind from our last run), all make it very hard for a single player to fight it. Plus, Hakutakku can't be kited because there is no place to run him for very long. Even if you kill all the Million Eyes in the area before the pop, they will respawn long before a "DoT and Kite" strategy would kill him.

To counteract all of Hakutakku's abilities, in addition to heavy and continuous damage dealing capabilities you would need:

A. Stun, Dispel, Shadows (or one hell of a VIT and DEF rating with maybe some damage reduction), HP recovery of some sort and Paralyna

or

B. Cannon Fodder, ie pets

or

C. Hacks

Now, some of the assets in section "A" could be covered by meds, but it would be very expensive and take lots of inventory space. Also, NIN/DRK could face away and just spam the elemental wheel, casting Stun when needed... but the fight would be so long that the chances of an uncontrollable disaster occurring (such as back to back -ga spells followed by several of Hakutakku's melee attacks hitting before shadows can be reapplied) reaches a near certainty.

Osse you forgot the part when I had downs.

I agree a soloing Hakutaku as BST is quite risky. Lots of AM is more of a blessing than a curse since its long cast time actually helps with pet management. It's the -GA spells, mischarms and sound aggro (possibly blood aggro from a Toad down below) that will get you in trouble. Too bad clusters are expensive, I might give it a shot.

I response to the OP, the smallest group i've done this with is 5.

Not to mention the fact that they have a nasty paralyze, and a pet that's paralyzed for 95% of their attacks isn't going to hold hate over you too well.
