This is something I've notice since the update/server merge this past Monday. It's also a shot at me asking if the same thing happened on Quetzalcoatl after the update. Hell, if you wanted to, you could just go ahead and mentally replace every instance of "Asura" and "Pandemonium" in this post with "Quetzalcoatl" and "Midgardsomr".

What I noticed, though, is many many people from Pandemonium have put "I'm from Pandemonium" in their bazaar messages. What's more is I've seen various linkshells with names like "AcesPandemonium" or "LegendPandemonium" (I don't think those are actual shells, but you get the idea...).
Now, it's not like I expected Asura shells to gobble up everybody from Pandemonium, and of course something like "I'm Drpain from Pandemonium" is useful for identifying people who had to rename themselves, but it seems to me that the our new mates are segregating themselves from half of the server. This, I think, will make it even tougher to deal with conflicts like in Dynamis and Limbus, because it'll lead to Asurans reaching for the "well we were on this server first" argument if a shell with Pandemonium is involved.
It's almost like they would've installed those separate water fountains themselves if we didn't.

is it endgame shells? maybe they dont want to throw away all the work they did as a group? i dont know lol..thatd be my guess

item lines, points..whatever

I think you're missing the point. Xali isn't trying to say that Pandy people should join all Asuran shells, but they are completely separating themselves, even by name. Instead of being "LegendPandemonium" why not just be "Legend?"

You know I can't speak for Quetz Xali, but that would suck if servers are doing that.

think of it this way....look at the quetz/midgard transfer thread. how many midgard people within that thread still show midgard as being their server? its not just asura/pandy doing it.

I find the segregation quite natural for those not given a choice. We want to stick with our own in a strange environment.

And that's the problem. No one should be able to pull the "Well we were here first" card because it's not like it was their choice to come over. You can do that with ls's who transfer over or something, but not a whole server merge. Just because it's Asura's name, Asuran people don't own it and neither do Pandy people. Same with Quetz/Midgard. People just need to get over it and understand that things like this is a part of life. At least they didn't split people up, everyone is still together, just with more people. I mean after all the complaints about the game is dying, you would think people would be more excited and want to speak to more people from the other server.

As for Midgard, from what I can tell, most of them on the boards seem very friendly and it'll be nice having them around!

on that note, shouldnt the old servers be removed from choices on profile?

Are you also in favor of melanin suppression therapy? :nono:

Anyway, just because we got poured into a new place doesn't mean all traces of our past should be purged. I like Quetz so far, and would have no trouble getting to know people from here, but give us all a break -- we're still disoriented, trying to reassemble our linkshells and other connections, and trying to assess what's changed and how to deal with it. That's one experience among many we'll have that native Quetz players won't have had. Probably more of us will be willing to reach out to the natives once we've finished pulling together.

Don't take my choice of server banner and my sticking "(Remember Midgard.)" into my bazaar comment as an attempt to segragate myself -- just as an aspect of self-identification. -- Pteryx

Yep this'll be me - username here was created on the assumption that since Cesaria was an auto-generated name (Midgard also had a Caesar, Cesari, Cestrian and I would get ALLL their MTs) someone would have it here. And yep on alla I've got a sig with something like Midgard RIP... because for over 5 years it was my home and I don't want to lose the connection with that at all - I'm still absolutely livid about the world closures and how they were handled, and it's blooming rubbish having to play FFXI guess who edition trying to work out who lost names/got namejacked when they're running around WG waving at you (it's like the morning after the first night at college when people wave and say hello and you've got no recollection of who they are because you got hideously drunk the night before).

Plus we are getting a lot of "we were here first"/"our server - our rules"/"your server failed so suck it up and deal with it" stuff - so it's inevitable we band together. People are seeking out their identity, often with a char name change thrust upon them - and for us, at the moment, the evicted ones - our identity is as Midgard people.... plus half the LS names were already taken and we like our LS names as much as you like yours so we're going to end up sticking Midgard onto 'em... also with it being a bit of an FFVIIish name - it was in a lot of fanboy-esque LS names anyway.

We want to keep the memory of our home alive... not one of us asked for this mess to be thrust upon us. I'll be honest - I'm not enjoying the merge experience at all. And I'd like the option to keep Midgard as my server on my profile because that's where Ces was created and I think it's fair to want to acknowledge that link.

Cesaria, i can't blame you. I know if it was Quetzalcoatl that was going under, we'd probably take the same measures to preserve what is left. I think the situation was handled very poorly. While I was excited to meet new people, I'd never would have wanted it to be because they were forced to move. When I was watching vanafest, I stopped enjoying myself after the server merge announcement, I was horrified. ( and we were not the ones being moved.) I was really hoping they would have allowed atleast two people to keep the same name and a different way to convey tells to each one, so no one would have to change who they are. Honestly i'm surprised Midgard was absorbed. ( for reasons mentioned above) I always had the impression that it was one of the most populated servers.

I can't speak for anyone else who got to keep their name. But I know i've received at least a handful of tells with their dislike towards me because Now i'm an " Imposter" dispite that fact i've had my character since 2003, and that back when I made my character, I didn't expect to be playing as long as I have been and used my real name as my characters name.

I really don't even know how to respond to that, because I know my heart would sink a bit too if I saw myself running around on another server and couldn't have my name. However, it also makes me upset because I wanted to welcome people here, but now I get a automatic dislike card, because of SE's methods of change. For people who have had namejacks, I think the first people to accuse of that would be people on your own server that may have had a beef with you. I'm not saying people from Quetz are completely innocent, we have our fair share like anyone else. but when you think about it, I dont think anyone would just be like, "o hay, let me go take this strangers name just because they want it." Unless they all ready knew them. adding in the %2 asshole factor of people who are just asses to be an ass.

I really hope that within a month or less people start warming up to each other and start getting along. It seems like everyone was all for being part of a community until it was forced on them to do so. I do hope that you have better a experience. We've all got to try to make this work.

i've been spending alot of time with midgard players and yes a good number of them lost their names. the ones i've met, however, seem to simply tweek their old names and move on. I'm sorry you've had to keep running into the immature cretins Misi.

Oh, I totally understand wanting to hold on to memories of home. For years, I was part of a social by the name of UnknownSoldiers that has gone into something like unto dormancy since the leader, Dragonsbane, is on one of his periodic vacations from Vana'diel. Now I'm a proud member of SpiritoftheWolf, as are many of my fellow Soldiers.

It may sound corny (and maybe just a lil emo . . .), but I always have my UnknownSoldiers pearlsack on me . . . and occasionally imagine my character holding it in his hand and thinking, "Never forget. This is who you are."

I saw your name, Misi, and I had a bad feeling that you might get some issues. You can blame that one guy that does those comics. I'm sure someone knows who I'm talking about, because it's too early in the morning for me to think. I do apologize for them on behalf of the people who can't move on.

My friend had his own issues with the server move. His character name was used on this server, and he's 99% sure that it's an inactive character that has it. He does not want to change it, so he's fighting with the GMs to get his name back, the name he's had since NA PC release. Does anyone know of a person on Quetz with the name Nayu? I'm pretty sure it's a mule since there's no Jeuno AH data for them on FFXIAH.

I lost my first character's name, Selan. I actually find it somewhat hilarious, because *I'm* the original Selan of Quetz (Yes, I know I claimed I'd never spell any form of it properly. I do that in jest, but there's times to be serious with it.). I started the game at NA PC release, I was on Phoenix, then I moved to Quetz with a friend since my Phoenix friends had quit, and finally went to Midgardsormr. All three servers, I was Selan. I never made it past level 12 on either of the first two incarnations, and deleted them both because back then, we needed world passes to make characters on new worlds, or to hope the random server chooser would throw us there and it wouldn't work if you already had a created character!

SE handled this bad, I think everyone would agree. Sadly, people were going to lose their names and linkshells regardless of what they did. I think in the future, SE would do good to flag inactive characters for name changes before current subscribers, in my opinion. Or based it on age of the character.

Or just left the whole damn thing alone.

If you wanted to make server populations increase, make an ongoing campaign to try to get the extremely high pop servers to lower pop ones for free. Give incentives for people to move. Don't make it one server filtering to one server, let them select from any of the low pop servers. Populations start to balance? Set a closing date on transfers out of whatever, or to whatever, so that the last people who wanted to move can do so. And *don't* just make the mass transfers happen during maintenance. When someone selects that they want to do a free transfer, do it like the paid transfers (I guess paid transfers are within a short time rather than waiting for a maint.).

So many things that they should do different.

There have been a few cases of name jacking from (now) former members of my linkshell. Either they had some previous argument or just generally didn't like the person. It's pretty sad, but that's Midgard for you. I feel bad for everyone I've seen get namejacked, and it's actually a far worse problem than I ever imagined it to be. There are a few members of my linkshell who have tried contacting GM's about it - and the only response they got was "If enough people complain, then we'll do something about it". This mainly applies to the people who have level 1 mules with someone else's character name of choice, since as one GM put it, its a form of harassment.

Unfortunately, I knew SE would screw this up, and all the name-jacking proves it. However, if someone on Quetz has a main char that they've been playing for years that just happened to be the name of someone who came from Midgard, it sucks but that's the way SE handled it. There is no reason that person should be called an impostor. They were here first, and we from Midgard were evicted from our server were just thrown here.

On another note,

My Linkshell from Midgard reformed and cleaned house / recruited already - we met a few people from Quetz who joined the linkshell. So far they seem pretty nice.

One thing that makes me laugh though - is seeing recruiting for "Midgard originals only" people. We were put here for a reason, because either one of our servers didn't have enough people, and I look at it as a chance to meet new people, not to shell yourselves in by segregating each other.

My co-leader of the linkshell on Midgardsormr and I were planning on reforming the linkshell because we liked the name for nostalgia, but it seems the name is taken on the server already. I really wish we could've had the name WindShire still, but I guess we'll have to move on. I'm not going to tack on Midgard to the name, that's just plain stupid.

I'm not sure if I should look to join a social shell from Quetz, or try to form my own again. I'm not sure how welcomed I'd be in any shell here though, after my grandiose entrance the other day (Went to Whitegate, and shouted "Greetings, citizens of the Wilfred Fizzlebang server, I am Achika, your new overlord. You may pay tribute to me with cookies." =( I'll have to talk to my co-leader though. Neither of us really play anymore, but being shell-less is kind of depressing.

I hate to sound like a cynical bastard buuuuuuuuut, I really really wish people on Midgard(or people on Quetz if there are any) would stop Q_Qing over the merge. While I can't speak for everyone, I was very excited on March 23 to do a /sea all and see almost 5K people online. This is an MMORPG... give me my multiplayer already damn it!

It was absurd that while on midgard there would be like >1K people on most of the time and like 14-1500 tops during like JP peak and whatever.

I've met some really cool people on Quetz so far and I'm glad to actually see new people. I still have my midgard LS but we've already got a few people from Quetz recruited as well.

As for the fact that people had to change their names... aye, it sucks but to go on and on about it is ridonkulous. The people calling GMs make me lulz big time. Whatever though, to each their own.

I'm changing my server title, I'm a Quetzacoaltian now. Midard RIP.

I think you're missing the point. Xali isn't trying to say that Pandy people should join all Asuran shells, but they are completely separating themselves, even by name. Instead of being "LegendPandemonium" why not just be "Legend?"

You know I can't speak for Quetz Xali, but that would suck if servers are doing that.

oh i didnt miss the point..but whats it matter..let them play their game

maybe if theres an issue with dynamis..you should be bitching at se. only seems reasonable that they fix it when they merge servers..

and not you personally..im just saying

It's like if you lost your home to a fire. Are you not sad at losing things you've had? A name may be a name to you, but it's a possession for us. Sure, you can replace a lot of things, but what of those things that you've known and treasured? That's why people are upset. I'm sure after awhile, we'll adjust. For now, we're in a period of mourning at the loss of what made us be who we were.

And yes, I realize that I made a terrible, terrible analogy that's probably not sensitive at all to people. I'm sorry, I couldn't think of anything better at the time.

Even though it's been roughly two days, I can say this about the merge... It's okay.

Haven't been treated rudely, haven't seen anything drastically different other than the Bazaar mart being in Upper Jeuno instead of Rolanberry.

Did I like the fact I had to change servers? No. Is there anything I can really do about it? No. It's the same game. Zones are the same. Yes, Midgardsormr is gone. Can't do anything about it except move on. It's a new beginning for me and other Midgarders. We have a chance to meet new people and look at the game from a different set of eyes. I have my linkshells back, I see things that I'm used to (Slushee in Windy and Gladeeater in Sandy) and I'm enjoying myself.

The first day the merge was announced, I had many people say that they were going to quit. My response? "Then quit!"

Word up. The only real difference between servers are people. Was not as if SE broke up servers and sent people to random servers. That I could understand.

Just a lot more people which has its own pros and cons. I really do not think this is worth Q_Q ing over.
