They really, really do save lives.

Last night while driving the kids to dinner, another car illegally entered the intersection in front of mine, and my car plowed into it. I was on a main thoroughfare doing the speed limit (about 45mph) they were coming from a side street that had a stop sign. I'm not sure if they ran the stop sign, or if they were just thickheaded and thought they could squeeze through the intersection before I got there, but either way they were equally stupid.

My front end is totally smashed in, front passenger window got smashed to bits. Airbags were deployed as well. I was the only one in the front, both my kids were buckled in the back seat. The kids were totally uninjured. I got a bump on the nose from the airbag, a big bruise on my right thumb when it rammed into the gearshift, and I sprained my left pinky from it ramming into the steering wheel. Because everyone was buckled in, we all walked away from an accident where my car was totaled.

I'm not really sure what's going to happen next, all I can say is I hope the other driver gets reamed. She was driving on a suspended license, and the car belongs to someone other than herself, so I'm assuming she's in pretty deep shit right now. I'm sad that my car is gone, it was my baby for a long, long time. It was a '95 Dodge Neon 4-door, and the very first car I ever drove. I learned to drive in that car as a teenager, and bought it from my parents when I moved away from home. It only had 35,000 miles on it and ran great. I'm definitely not happy about having to make car payments again (we just finished paying off Osse's car in April). Though of course, being a girl, I have to admit I'm excited about shopping for a new one. Sofia has been promised that she gets to pick out the color of our new car, as she was upset to hear that our old one probably wouldn't be fixed.

I'm happy to hear you and your children are safe.

wow i was t-bone by a car doing 60 mph once car was totaled, real scary stuff .my car spun and stopped 80 yards away from impact. i too walked away. im so glad you and the girls are ok , sucks about the car. more importantly the girls and you are relatively unhurt .

Glad to hear you and your children are alright.

I've been in five car accidents they're not fun to be in, especially when it's someone elses fault, which all of mine were. I sympathize with losing a car that's dear to you, what I would give to have an old car of mine back.

I'm glad to hear you're all ok, and the other driver as well. That's a rough business being in accidents of that nature. My mom and little brother were in an accident where they were rear-ended and spun around in our neighborhood when i was about 6 years old (my brother was 2). Mom had to wear a neck brace for a couple weeks and our car (1986 Dodge 600) was totaled. It was really scary, beacuse the guy just took off after the accident to his house, walked back to the accident scene and started yelling at Mom for "going too slow" (speed limit was 25, he was coming through at about 45).

Good luck getting yourself a new car, let's hope that some of the other driver's (unlikely) insurance will pay for it?

a big bruise on my right thumb when it rammed into the gearshift

Lighthearted-joke: that wouldn't have been a problem if you were driving stick! :D (Or were you?)

First cars hold special importance. I'm currently locked in a power struggle with my '92 Olds Achieva SCX. I bought it from my dad and mom (the original owners) in 2000 after I graduated high school. I drove it til it effectively gave out last December, at a stately 211,000 miles accumulated by "The Green Family" :D My brother is repairing it, but it's slow-going but I'm hoping I can get her back :)

I hate to hear that you and your girls were in an accident but I am relieved to hear that you are overall in good shape physically. I hated parting with my first car too. Good luck with your new car.

I was driving stick. That's why my hand was on the gearshift. :P

I'm about to call Allstate now (the other driver's insurance company) and see if they'll be civil about resolving my claim. If they're not, then I'm going to have to sic my State Farm agent on them. Assuming of course that the other driver's insurance policy is still in effect, if Allstate has already dropped her coverage then it's State Farm all the way. (If Allstate hasn't dropped her coverage, they're probably going to after they find out she was at fault for an accident on a suspended license).

Wow I'm glad you were not seriously injured, and your kids were uninjured!

Two days before 9/11 I slammed into a telephone pole at 57MPH after veering off the road going around a curve. I turned around to get the fish outta the sun in the backseat. Please don't ask me why I did this for I have no valid reason.

The telephone pole split in two on contact and the top portion missed my windshield by 2 inches. The car coasted onto someone's property and stopped. I walked away with bruises from the seatbelt and from hitting my knee on the drivers side. I had no license and was only 16 at the time.

bah! you caught me!

i assumed automatic simply because your thumb could jam into the shift-stick on the side of the steering wheel...bah i'll shaddap :D

(silent plug: state farm's a good neighbor. a good neighbor with the backing of the neighborhood watch :bb:)

Glad to hear that you are ok, and your little ones. Scary shit right there. Even if this douchenozzle doesn't have insurance you should still be able to get a nice size compensation package. That should help cut your payments down. I hope you don't live in a "No Fault" state.

Things like this are terrifying. I was in an accident as a passenger many years ago approaching an intersection with a traffic light where the other driver ran a red light and we smashed into his passenger side doing the speed limit (55). It wasn't even like kinda-yellow iffy, we had a full on green light and this guy just blew through his solid red. Both airbags deployed and both of us were wearing our seatbelts. We both got cuts and bruises - I ended up with bruised ribs and my friend that was driving ended up with a broken finger from trying to brace for the impact. But when we got out of the car, one of the people who witnessed the accident and stopped to make sure we were ok said "Thank God you were wearing your seatbelt, you would have gone straight through the windshield." And at 55 mph, that would have been that. I was pretty grateful that I did, and always have, worn my seatbelt.

I'm really glad that you and your kids are ok. Good luck getting everything resolved and getting your new car.

o.O

Fel, please dont brawl the other driver.. I know you're a little firecracker.

Glad to hear you and the kids are ok.

Us Italians are a passionate people. But yeah, punching her fat face in would serve no purpose, no matter how satisfying it may feel at the time. I'm content to just ream her through the legal system as much as possible.

(In all honesty I was shaking so bad I didn't even get out of the car until the police arrived at the scene, lol).

PS Genk: you'd better start getting swole soon, cause right now I'm leaving you in the dust. You gonna take that from a girl?

Glad to hear your all right, shes gonna get fucked though :p

Wow Fel, relieved that you and the kids are ok. People like that should not even be given a second chance to drive.

I'm glad that you and the little ones are ok. Saftey belts and guardian angels :) <3

I wish you the best of luck in the next few steps of the process and hope all turns out well. Keep an eye on yourself and also the kids. I don't know how hard the impact was, numbers wise, but there can be long term effects from an accident like that. (Talking from experiance) I'm sure they are fine, just a word of caution. Not trying to startle you.

So so glad to hear everyone is ok.

3 words "get a lawyer" insurance companies are not in the business to pay out. this is worth a new car in Sophie's favorite color at least my accident netted me 25k after the lawyers cut

I work for State Farm, trust me, if Allstate tries to be dodgy, we WILL jump on their asses. BTW, what state do you live in? The vehicle not belonging to the driver with the suspended license may pose some problems for you because in some states, the insurance follows the driver, and in others, it follows the car........

We're in Virginia, and from my conversation with Allstate it seems to be the driver's insurance and not the vehicle owner's that we deal with. Allstate took my statement over the phone today, and is supposed to send the adjuster out to look at my car Monday. I felt a little flustered when they started asking me what damage happened to the car, and I'm like "uhh, it's smashed and won't drive". They were asking me for details like if it was leaking fluid. Fuck if I know, it was nighttime and I wasn't about to crawl through broken glass and get under my car to check for fluid leaks.

I've always been happy with the service from State Farm, which is why we've had insurance with them for over 10 years. Our current agent is a good guy too, actually works his ass off to help his customers. When we had a water line break in our apartment a few years back, he was there within 30 minutes of calling him to assess the damage and give us a check to cover hotel stay while the place got fixed up.

Oh and Skreb, I've already promised Sofia that she gets to pick the color of car if we end up buying a new one. Of course I only made that promise because I know pink isn't a stock option, lol.

Glad to hear you and your kids are safe, Fellina.

If you can get enough money from the claim, your daughter might enjoy something like this:
