About Quiting

you truely begin to XP in ffxi at lv60..
the game truely starts (fun wise) at lv70..

most jobs, in my opinion, suck until lv30+ (eg: samurai's meditate, thiefs trick attack)

it takes what? a week (maybe two?) of casual xp to get a job to lv30? by casual i mean 2-3 hrs every day.. thats casual to me..

if you've never been to crawler's nest on any job.. you need to continue playing until you do so lol.. you'll enjoy this game alot more when you can actually DESTROY things..

early levels most jobs are equal.. and can do multiple things.. such as a samurai tanking in qufim island.. or a blm being main cure in qufim..

later levels they become more specified.. each job concentrates on one area of the fight.. become more customizable.. (though most ppl still wear the same gear because its uber :P)..

anyhow.. one thing i wish they'd add in ANY MMORPG i play (i got this idea from one called Dragon Raja).. i wish they'd let you customize armor colors.. immagine a PURE WHITE PLD.. wouldnt that be sweet? or a BLACK pld? :P awesome.. maybe RDM AF as blue? or green? i'd get me an orange rapparee harness..

it's not the game's fault the people choose to fight crabs the whole time.. if you're looking for a fun job play bst..

FFXI was never meant for PvP.. it was added in from insane requests which would make since why it's not balanced. WoW is more focused on having the option to solo..

Also FFXI's limited ability to jump, climb, swim, etc is a big reason of why the gameplay is so smooth and why the game is the most solid mmo.

Go check out guild wars.. you can dye your armor =)

I WANT TO DYE MY ARMOR! YES! >< thats.. really the only thing i'd change in ffxi..

but for everyone else who replied to my post..

FFXI IS A TRUE MMORPG.. this means 2 things..
(1) you pay a monthly fee to play this game..
(2) the makers of the game (SE) will do everything in their power to keep you playign for longer.. if this means INVISIBLE WALLS and ALOT OF RUNNING AROUND SLOWLY.. that is it..

they dont WANT you to get to high lvl's fast.. they dont WANT you to complete alot of quests easily.. they dont WANT you to find a party in 2 minutes.. they DO WANT you to play for hours day months just for a SINGLE GOOD ITEM.. so they can make more money off of your entertainment..

I dont really see FFXI as difficult. Even the endgame content is pretty simple with people with half a brain. The grind is the hardest(?) part of the game only because it takes so goddamn long to get XP, let alone a group to get that XP.

WoW's difficulty is not so much in the level grind, but the endgame raids can be the most challenging thing you've ever done. Trying to manage 40 people on a consistent basis to obtain loot is not as easy as it may sound, and many guild have gone a long way to reach the status they are at now (Impervious [Formerly DrgnAsh here] makes all this content look like a cakewalk yes...but it took a lot of time and teamwork to get the content to the point it was that easy for them...they are also made up of a very close knit group of players with skill to match).

Yeah, saddly its this reason that people are leaving the game. It take "too" long to do any of these things without severly cutting into RL matters, little things like "work" "school" "family" all the things that they tell us not to neglect all while making people wait hours on end for lotto pop NMs or getting enough Ancient Currency for Relic Weapons (i know that the developers didnt intend for everyone to get fully upgraded Relic Weapons but theres a difference between "timesink" and "you'd best quit your social life".

I understand that they want people to play the game longer, but making things that people want damn near impossible to get isnt the only way to do that. Adding things like "content" and "story" are a good way to do it. It seems like bad game making when the best idea they can come up with for people to stay in a game is "make everything hard a hell to get".

well you have to have a lot of things like this for the players that play non stop and wanna be the best they can be but yeah.. SE does it too much and needs to make things a bit easier for the people who dont really have all the time in the world to play.

IMO the worst thing is NMs. If you take them out of a gaming context, they are utter nonsence. If you propsed doing something like this to any person IRL they would think you were a fool.

"Ok, you have to wait here for 2-24 hours for something that may or maynot appear and if, IF you get the claim on it, it may or maynot drop something you want. And even if you have an ability that helps getting said item, it still has a pretty piss poor drop rate compared to the time you spend waiting for it. Oh yeah, and there are other people who want it too, so if you dont get it you'll have to do the same thing over again."

Most people would think you're crazy. NMs are this games slow mind-fuck that can drive people insane. These are the things that drive people to use 3rd party hacks to get these items, and i'm really starting not to blame them.

Dark...did you guys end up beatn ZM6....that was geh we shoulda won the first time....just take a break ive felt like quittn alot ive just took a few months break and it refreshed me...anyways GL

I like sitting around in FF and waiting for a party for 2 hours, or after 2 hours of waiting making my own party, only to have the RDM or WHM, or any other essential job leave after they just level or just dont want to play anymore. :)

What does not being able to jump have to do with smooth gameplay and a game being "solid" (whatever that means)?

You can solo in WoW yeah, but if you want some actually good items at your level, you need to group up and do instances, or group up and fight things higher level. If you actually want good items to your level.

FFXI, yeah it's smooth, but the fact that it lacks the ability to jump, or swim, and not only that but a lot of things are baracaded, there isn't much to explore. WoW gives you freedom all around to do what you want. Hell, you can even jump on top of the other factions airship and get a free ride closer to their towns.

I miss daggerfall.. you could do anything and everything in that game and it was so freakin huge that it would almost literally take a full day to walk from one side of the map to the other. And not only could you explore while swimming, climbing walls, flying, etc.. but you got skills that you could level up to do so.

and this game came out in 96.. almost 10 years old

Sounds sorta like WoW... lol

Some classes get abilities to reduce damage while falling, some other ones(warlock for example) get extended water breathing, etc..

i think being bored of FFXI isn't the problem, i think its being bored of being on the computer like 4 hours a day lol
