Active duty soldier. Family faces deportation.

This is quite possibly one of the dumbest comments I have heard on QCDN and I have heard a lot of them.

Having grown up in Southern California I am less then thrilled with all of the illegal immigration and would like to see it stop.

HOWEVER, if you join the military and serve in combat for a country you now reside in, I think at least you should be given the right to not have your family deported while you are deployed and actually should have the right to be made a citizen, your wife a citizen and your children citizens.

I just skimmed most of the convos here and this quote caught my eye so I thought I would post my Opinion.

Combat Military Service should = Citizenship for member, wife and children

Too bad your opinion is wrong and mine right, since it IS IN THE NEWS, and it is happening.

So does that now make yours the dumbest comment ever since it's based on fantasy?

More and more I think the military needs to invest more money into EDUCATION so our soilders can learn to read, write, and understand, not just hold on to thier rifles, and shout stupid shit.

No, it doesn't make his comment dumb. It makes it idealistic, which is not wrong at all.

I agree with Lews in that his ability to serve for the country should allow her to become a citizen, but not automatically. Think about that for a second. Ever see "An Officer and a Gentleman"?

Let me tell you something about the local girls.

Ever since there's been a base here, there's been what you'd call the Puget Sound Debs.

The poor girls come across the sound on the ferry every weekend with just one thing in mind, and that's to marry themselves a naval aviator.

A Puget Deb will tell you, "Don't you worry about contraceptives. I've got that all taken care of."

Don't believe it, sweet pea.

A Puget Deb will do anything and say anything to trap you.

I know this sounds silly, especially in this so-called modern age, but you scuzzy college pukes should
watch out, because they're out there, and you, sweet peas,
are the answer to their dream!

Shit like that STILL happens.

However, I digress.

Dante, this:

has got to be the dumbest thing I've seen so far in this thread.

Too bad your agreeing with the chump that calls an explanation of the current state of affairs the dumbest "comment" he's ever heard.

Apparently Tristam it's not enough, I look at ALL OF THAT and know there's much more and shake my head because we still have chimps like Lewis spoutin dumb shit right here on this thread.

Which is why I pointed it out. A point you apparently missed when you direct the painfully obvious answer at me, when it should be at Lewis. I feel my tax dollars are going to waste.

Too bad your agreeing with the chump that calls an explanation of the current state of affairs the dumbest "comment" he's ever heard.

An explanation of the state of affairs is not an opinion though, it's a fact.

Saying "you're wrong, I'm right, and that's the way it is" is not any kind of viable explanation.

Sorry, but you didn't make yourself look any smarter than him when you peddled that particular brand of crazy.

It's not our job to support illegal aliens.

Since when does it mean serving active duty in the military equate your whole family being turned into Americans?

If your not American and it's your time to go, then you go. Period.

YOu getting lazy there Tristam? Or playing dumb-as-a-chimp to make your friend look good? Let me grab a quote again so you can read.

Thems-the-facts-jack. Are you going to sit there and say it aint?

I find it funny that you cut this key piece of your own quote out, and I'll wager this is what Lews was commenting on:

An opinion based on a mutilated quote from JFK. Good show Dante.

an opinion, and one he's VERY entitled to, be it based in fantasy or idealism.

Too bad your opinion is wrong and mine right, since it IS IN THE NEWS, and it is happening.

There's an effective rebuttal if ever I saw one.

The same post said:

A faulty counter-point, since the tools are there for any servicemember to utilize.

Too bad your agreeing with the chump that calls an explanation of the current state of affairs the dumbest "comment" he's ever heard.

You offered an explanation of the way things are, followed by an opinion. An opinion he countered with his own. So you get pissy, and call him a chump?

Shame on you, Dante, shame.

Thems-the-facts-jack. Are you going to sit there and say it aint?

Thems the fact, jack.

I find it funny that you cut this key piece of your own quote out, and I'll wager this is what Lews was commenting on:

You'll wager huh? What are you now his Mommy? You speak for the man? That is the dumbest weakest arguement you've came up with yet pal. And your coming up with some doozies tonight.

An opinion based on a mutilated quote from JFK. Good show Dante.

And a great comment from JFK it was. Are you of the belief that your conntry SERVES YOU? It's no wonder we got fucked up situations like this with people walking around thinking that everybody owes them something, things should be dropped in thier laps rather than earned. KNow what I call people like that? Leaches, thats not the American way.

You want something? Then earn it, same way everybody else does. Don't cry for it on the news or the papers and expect a handout. This is fucking weak. We gave them political asylum possibly saved thier lives, now before they even get to return the favor in full to thier country thier asking for another favor?

What-the-fuck-mate.

Called me a cold hearted asshole, but were trying to get the illegal aliens out of America, not keep them in. I'm sorry if your family is one of them, but we all have laws and rules to follow, this is America, not Guatemala, we follow the laws here.

You're funny, and I figured you'd bring up "you're speaking for him now?".

No, I'm not speaking for him. We won't know unless *unlikely* Lews responds again in this thread.

And yes, it is a good quote from JFK. It was a great quote, and a damn fine concept.

Are you of the belief that your conntry SERVES YOU?
Actually, yes. I am, and most anyone else in this country believes it as well, because of a fact on which the country itself was founded.

The country serves us because we serve it.

That's the key idea of social contract, big fella.

But continue, please. By all means, call me a chump, an idiot, or anything of the like. It shows your own ignorance, and I have pity on you for it.

And are you speaking for the people of Guatemala now? Or was that remark truly necessary?

Green Cards do NOT mean you are a citizen. They give you the right to live and work in the US. Once again just because you have a green card does NOT mean you are a citizen of the United States. It allows you to work and live in the United States for x amount of time. Does it make becoming a citizen easier? Hell fucking yes it does, but it's not needed you will see why below. And for a third time A GREEN CARDS DO NOT MEAN YOU ARE A US CITIZEN.

So a student visa and work visa would be sufficient enough to apply for citizenship.

Edit: Yes a green card is a work visa, but it's special in that you can go back to your home country. First you must tell the Govt that you are going back to your home country.

i know that a green card =/= citizenship, but a green card can = permanent residency, which is what this discussion is about (ie. the soldiers wife in jeopardy of being deported)

USCIS.gov said:
Lawful Permanent Residence ("Green Card")

This section of the USCIS Website provides you with information and directions necessary to apply for lawful permanent residence (LPR), or "green cards". You will have the opportunity to access information regarding ways to get a "green card". A "green card" gives you official immigration status (Lawful Permanent Residency) in the United states. If you already are a permanent resident, you may want to read, "Now That You Are A Permanent Resident".

If you already know the specific path of immigration you wish to follow, visit one of the following:

* Immigration through Employment

If you are unsure which immigration path best fits your particular situation, see our general information section.

Hey dark why do you hate imigrants so much. Did one of them take a job from you, sleep with your wife ect.

if it were for more people like you knowbody would be in this country... This country was founded on imigration....

You really need to open your eyes and grow up...

P.s Ignore spelling i am at work i dont have time to proof read

Not sure he hates immigrants, so much as he embraces legal passage to this country. There is a difference. Don't pigeon-hole people as hate mongers just because they would choose to follow the laws, please.

I'm not really defending anything Dante is saying, although my own message doesn't differ all that much from it, just includes less anger. Still, I'm not up for witnessing blatantly ignorant blanket statements being used to try to prove a "point".

I don't know anyone here who would argue to turn away an immigrant that came here embracing the country and it's laws. (Reads: following the laws and legally becoming a citizen).

While the country owes this man respect, his family has yet to pay appropriate respect to the country by following the laws. As I said before, I think there's a lot of gray area here. I think his family should be allowed to be citizens. They should be allowed to cut to the front of the line, so to speak, to expedite their citizenship...But they need to go through the motions, officially, like every other immigrant.

So you're all for the illegal immigrants signing up then getting amnesty? Sorry there is a serious flaw with that.

Did you miss the part about having to reapply after 10 years? Sorry it's not permanent because you can be deported at any time because if you break a law you can have your card taken away. You're better off going on a student or a work visa. A work visa being the easier one to renew as your employer can help you refile. With a student visa you have a limited amount of time. I'm not sure if you can get a student visa for high school if you can you have 8 years to study at most. These 2 ways have a hell of a lot shorter waiting line than trying to get a green card.

And yes you did try to play the green card as citizenship trying to debunk that how you become a US citizen via immigration is based on lottery. Once again it's not and has nothing to do with citizenship. Yes you are granted citizenship like status, but you're not an official citizen. You are a guest. Once again the green card can be taken away at any time if you do not follow the guidelines. The Naturalization Test isn't based on lottery it's when you can get in to take the test, once again there is probably a waiting list to take the test, then if you pass it or not.

must have, please point it out

Sorry it's not permanent because you can be deported at any time because if you break a law you can have your card taken away.
i should have stated this exception in my previous post, but i was under the impression that that would be common knowledge, thats why i didnt include it

And yes you did try to play the green card as citizenship trying to debunk that how you become a US citizen via immigration is based on lottery.
that post was poorly worded on my part, my bad... i should have said that there is also a lottery system in place that allows immigrants to legally stay in the US without having to worry about deportation (provided they remain law abiding residents) even though it doesnt grant them all the rights and privileges of citizenship... i guess the point that i was trying to make is that there are other options out there for immigrants to legally stay in the US.... the lottery (that i mentioned), the work/student visa (that you mentioned), and maybe some others that i dont know about

but to be honest, i dont really know why this is even happening to her if the below is true:
USCIS.gov said:
Spouses of U.S. Citizens Deployed Abroad

i know that the soldier isnt a natural citizen, but i was under the impression that he was now, so wouldnt the above apply to his wife?

What about the people that are legal, that are going through the system but ether they get denied or loose the lottery ( the Goverment uses a lottery system to give residence to people with out looking at there case by case).

i have a Friend that came here when he was 16 years old, he has been paying taxes as soon as he got here. He has a 3.9 Gpa and has 2 degrees.
He has a clean record, driving record, and has a great Work History.

But when he applies for politcal Asylum he gets denied because in the Drawing his name was not choosen. So instead of this person that can help the country be better they pick a person that has no eduation and a Dui.

Please tell me how this is not Broken. You cant can you or dop u say its the law it happens. No its the law but the law is broken.

I am a american citzen my job in this country is to fix thing that i see broken. many things are broken here, medical, immigration, policys, and many others

If he's this French person you're talking about then of course he shouldn't get political asylum granted.

Right of asylum (or political asylum) is an ancient judicial notion, under which a person persecuted for political opinions or religious beliefs in his or her country may be protected by another sovereign authority, a foreign country, or Church sanctuaries (as in medieval times).

Interesting fact for people who say we are supporting Illegal immigrants...

They pay taxes. Many illegals get forged documents and fake social security numbers so they can work at legitimate businesses, like hotels, restaurants, produce farms etc. The only real difference is, they don't file for a tax return because they would get picked up by INS. Therefore, they pay MORE taxes than people who work the same jobs.

In that respect, it's the illegal immigrants that are supporting you.

The ones that don't pay taxes work for small privatly owned companies, and do work like landscaping and construction. Those people are the ones that don't pay taxes. The owners of those business pay them under the table, and a lot of those guys don't pay taxes either. My biological father does small construction jobs, hires illegals to do the labor, pockets 3/4 of the money and sits on his ass smoking crack collecting disability.

Also, Darkdante... Because you saw it on the news doesn't make it true. You should know this as well as anyone.

And why do people keep bringing up the education of soldiers?

If he's this French person you're talking about then of course he shouldn't get political asylum granted.

He is columbian. They are at war right now with the goverment and the drug dealers. Its not a safe place to be and he came here to make a better life for him self not to use the country

Also back to topic, she cant get her residency because the INS got rid of the I-250 form. Which lets a illegal immigrant apply for a residency.

Uh. No. There shouldn't be a form for an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT to apply for residency in the first place. Do it the proper way or don't fucking bother.

Ryujin said:

When did we have that right? We have freedom but we don't have the freedom to fix whatever the fuck you personally feel is broken. What you have the right to do is to calmly present your ideas to a general assembly and politely express them to the other citizens and then vote and pass what the majority feels is right.
