Active duty soldier. Family faces deportation.

i change what i feel is broken by voting in the politicians, That i know that can do it. Direct and indirect actions can change the country just like a pebble can cause a ripple effect in a pond.

There are many people that came here legally and have been trying to stay. They have family, friends, property, and great jobs. But these people are forced to go into hiding or leave because the country that they build a life in does not want them anymore...

I fond it ironic that the immigrants pay taxes but when they want to stay teh government says Oh well goodbye u can leave now.

must have, please point it out

i should have stated this exception in my previous post, but i was under the impression that that would be common knowledge, thats why i didnt include it

that post was poorly worded on my part, my bad... i should have said that there is also a lottery system in place that allows immigrants to legally stay in the US without having to worry about deportation (provided they remain law abiding residents) even though it doesnt grant them all the rights and privileges of citizenship... i guess the point that i was trying to make is that there are other options out there for immigrants to legally stay in the US.... the lottery (that i mentioned), the work/student visa (that you mentioned), and maybe some others that i dont know about

but to be honest, i dont really know why this is even happening to her if the below is true:

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/us...nnel=0a9ab58f71e14110VgnVCM1000004718190aRCRD

i know that the soldier isnt a natural citizen, but i was under the impression that he was now, so wouldnt the above apply to his wife?

From my understanding that is saying if you are a US citizen you can go live at the nearest safest US base (yes there is housing on most if not all US bases) that your spouse is being deployed to. She is not a US citizen so this doesn't effect her.

Edit: AS for your them not being permanent: http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi/showpost.php?p=756352&postcount=76 I suggest you read your own info Lucki. Also I demand an apology because I wasn't wrong. They were applying for citizenship not immigration. Citizenship isn't lottery unless you want to count landing a place on a waiting list, if there is one, a lottery.

..what?

Did you miss the part where they keep applying and after so long they can become citizens or renew their green card (albeit a long tedious process). They don't get immediately kicked out.

Again, ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, if they are illegal, they do not belong here in the first place.

If you're talking about people who apply citizenship then get kicked out a few days/months later, then I feel sort of bad (not really, we have enough people, we should close our borders personally, finish with Iraq and fix our own country and eradicate people who hinder our countries advancement). But when you say illegal immigrants, I don't immediately think people who did the process properly, I think people who sneaked past our borders and our illegally staying in our country.

And correct me if I am wrong, but with a visa, you are only allowed in a country (most countries) legally for 90 days or is that a tourist visa? You also do have to renew a green card or you can get deported. Green card does not mean you are 100% safe and you can be deported.

my friend has tried as many ways as he could to be able to stay here. The only thing he did not do is get married.

He has spent over 15,000k in lawyers, forms and many other things.

The forms shouldn't cost anything. Why he'd need lawyers is beyond me. He should have used the many different sources to stay other than green card. How long was he here?

I believe you are thinking of a tourist visa as student visa usually last until you're done with studies. Work visas I'm not too sure on the length, but I am sure they can't be that short although they may be that short. Some may be as there's lots of work visas in the US. I would think they'd be longer though. An H1B is up to 6 years, but is limited into who can file for that visa. http://h1base.com/page.asp?id=312. I don't feel like finding anymore. I'm being lazy tonight.

The cost of applying for naturalization, for example, would rise from $330 to $595, and a required fingerprint check would go from $70 to $80.

You also need to add in Court cost, Paperwork, Lawyers it adds up.

The person in question has been here for 7 years.

He applied for Political Asylum, and many other things

What about the people that are legal, that are going through the system but ether they get denied or loose the lottery ( the Goverment uses a lottery system to give residence to people with out looking at there case by case).

i have a Friend that came here when he was 16 years old, he has been paying taxes as soon as he got here. He has a 3.9 Gpa and has 2 degrees.
He has a clean record, driving record, and has a great Work History.

But when he applies for politcal Asylum he gets denied because in the Drawing his name was not choosen. So instead of this person that can help the country be better they pick a person that has no eduation and a Dui.

Please tell me how this is not Broken. You cant can you or dop u say its the law it happens. No its the law but the law is broken.

I am a american citzen my job in this country is to fix thing that i see broken. many things are broken here, medical, immigration, policys, and many others

Well, now I have to ask you what topic it is that you'd like to discuss. If indeed it is this soldier's situation, which I have responded to specifically a couple times now, why go off on tangents?

I've said there is gray area a couple times. You can pull up examples such as this and say the system is broken. You can pull up another example and make the system appear to shine brightly. Yet neither have a thing to do with this soldier. That's what I am here to talk about. All my points have spoken to that, so bring up the other stuff to someone else, and better yet, in a separate thread altogether where people can choose to participate in that discussion. Do not use tangents and blanket statements to make your points in regards to this soldier.

Yes many laws need some work, but we aren't talking about many laws. We aren't talking about your distinguished pal with the 3.9 GPA either. We are talking about this soldier and his family, and what they deserve. I believe they do deserve citizenship, as anyone who is willing to fight and die to defend this country, and their immediate family, should be awarded. However, how does this actually happen? Do they just go to sleep and wake up the next day, citizens? No.

I think his family should be allowed to be citizens. They should be allowed to cut to the front of the line, so to speak, to expedite their citizenship...But they need to go through the motions, officially, like every other immigrant.

Broken as many aspects of this government can be, I cannot state my thoughts about this soldier's situation any more concisely and easy to understand than I already have.

Work visas are good for two years. I saw three today at work that had expired and promptly notified INS. Usually INS doesn't do a damn thing though.

Once again, I am not for illegal immigration.

Sorry for the delayed repost but time-zones differences.

Darkdante – my comment about your statement being one of the dumbest things I have ever heard related to you final quote about “It's what you can do for your country, not what your country can do for you” in conjunction with all the other stuff you were talking about. That is what I was responding to.

Lets break this comment done and analyze it.

It’s what you can do for your country, which means what a citizen in said country, can do for the country they are a member of.

Not what your country can do for you, which once again implies citizenship in the very quote you are trying to use to show they shouldn’t stay in the US. Hmmm, interesting.

So the use of this opinion added into your post about what is “In the News” kind of fails on the common sense logic hence the reason it is “The dumbest comment I have ever heard.”

Here is the new Dumbest Quote I have ever heard and funny it is from the same person.

More and more I think the military needs to invest more money into EDUCATION so our soilders can learn to read, write, and understand, not just hold on to thier rifles, and shout stupid shit.

What is a “soilders” and “thier”? If you are going to insult peoples education, at least spell the words in the insult correctly.

Spoken like a person that has no idea what the military is; what educational requirements are required etc. If you want to have an “educational dick measuring contest,” send me a PM and we can debate who has better degrees etc.

One question I have for your and this is a reply to Rompers post also.

What have you done for your country and people other then being born in the US?

Do you have any prior military/civil service?

Do you have extensive volunteer service?

I personally don’t really care because the great thing about the US is that you are free to choose what you would like to do, whether it is volunteering, military service, civil service or do nothing; it is your option.

[This is 100-percent opinion on my part – never did I claim to have the law at my side]

However, if a non-American decides to join the military and serve a Combat tour where he/she is putting their life on the line for American Ideals then they [in my opinion] are entitled to US citizenship because at least they did something for this great country other then being born in it.

So your trying to say the soldier in question is not a citizen? What the fuck are you trying to say? I bet you don't even know who did that quote do you?

If everything I said was not in the news and was not TRUE would there even be a story smart guy? Would we be even arguing? Are you trying to discount what I'm saying? Why even join the argument if your going to do that?

See why I say we need to invest more? No I bet you don't...................
This is fucking pathetic.

Here is the new Dumbest Quote I have ever heard and funny it is from the same person.

Dumb becaus you don't know what it says? Shall I read it again to you? Let me make a dumb comment that seems right up your alley. Did you actually HEAR my comment?
har har. This is the level of intellect that your comebacks stem from. Fucking lame.

What is a “soilders” and “thier”? If you are going to insult peoples education, at least spell the words in the insult correctly.

Sorry in your infinite wisdom I guess you can't figure words out that are incorrectly spelled and need a translation. Not to worry I'm more than happy to oblige.

Let me quote websters dictionary for you here since you probably don't even know where to find it:

Soldier: 1 a : one engaged in military service and especially in the army b : an enlisted man or woman

Their: 1 : of or relating to them or themselves especially as possessors, agents, or objects of an action <their furniture> <their verses> <their being seen>

Spoken like a person that has no idea what the military is; what educational requirements are required etc. If you want to have an “educational dick measuring contest,” send me a PM and we can debate who has better degrees etc.

I know what the Military is chimp. What I can't figure out is where all that money I'm sending you is going. You sure are not displaying an adequate return on investment.

One question I have for your and this is a reply to Rompers post also.
What have you done for your country and people other then being born in the US?
Do you have any prior military/civil service?
Do you have extensive volunteer service?

I personally don’t really care

Then why ask? Chimp. Are you trying to join in the dick measuring contest that you so dispise?

However, if a non-American decides to join the military and serve a Combat tour where he/she is putting their life on the line for American Ideals then they [in my opinion] are entitled to US citizenship because at least they did something for this great country other then being born in it.

I respect that opinion, dosent mean I agree.

youre right, shes not but, iirc, her husband is a citizen... now it probably wont give her citizenship automatically, but it should expediate the process

USCIS.gov said:
If you are married to a U.S. citizen [she is] who is a member of the U.S. Armed Forces [he is] and your citizen spouse is or will be deployed abroad by the Armed Forces for one year [i assume he will be there for a year, but i really dont know], you may be eligible for expedited naturalization under section 319(b) of the INA.
if hes not going to be there for a year, then this most likely wont apply for her

Also I demand an apology because I wasn't wrong.
already did... in the same post you just quoted...
that post was poorly worded on my part, my bad

You'll wager huh? What are you now his Mommy? You speak for the man? That is the dumbest weakest arguement you've came up with yet pal. And your coming up with some doozies tonight.

And a great comment from JFK it was. Are you of the belief that your conntry SERVES YOU? It's no wonder we got fucked up situations like this with people walking around thinking that everybody owes them something, things should be dropped in thier laps rather than earned. KNow what I call people like that? Leaches, thats not the American way.

You want something? Then earn it, same way everybody else does. Don't cry for it on the news or the papers and expect a handout. This is fucking weak. We gave them political asylum possibly saved thier lives, now before they even get to return the favor in full to thier country thier asking for another favor?

What-the-fuck-mate.

Called me a cold hearted asshole, but were trying to get the illegal aliens out of America, not keep them in. I'm sorry if your family is one of them, but we all have laws and rules to follow, this is America, not Guatemala, we follow the laws here.

You're a cold hearted asshole. There I 'grew some balls' and said it out in public. Thats all i really had to say on the matter, hence why i said it in the rep system. But you asked me to say it in public, so there ya go.

war on Oil

I cant wait in 2 years i can leave this country for something better..

Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

As sad as this is, they are illegal therefore face the laws if caught. Would I like for them to be able to stay? Sure, they obviously are doin' more good than harm, but that's not the law. If they are allowed to stay, what's to stop other illegals from gettin' legal family members to join the armed forces to make them legal? I can see both sides but I agree more with the U.S. In this special case though, they should make his entire illegal portion of the family go through the proper steps to become legal, let them stay, and then make a new law off the situation so it wont happen again.

To the OP - America is not perfect nor is Canada, Australia or England (or a bunch of other countries); but these 4 countries are as close to perfect as is possible in the current world environment. I doubt you will find a better place to live. I agree with you about the OP dealing with this soldier but have fun in other countries if you think America is so shitty.

America is one of the most tolerant county’s in the world (not perfect). If you go to a Muslim country you better become Muslim or you are going to be a second class citizen and God help you if you are a women. There is a reason that so many people in other countries are trying to make it to the US. 95-percent of all countries are extremely corrupt at all levels of the Government. Example: in Afghanistan, the Afghani National Police supplement there income by taking bribes plus the majority of the senior government were/are Warlords.

Darkdante -

As I said I skimmed most posts - I thought you were posting in response to OPs original post. I still haven't read through all the posts so I might have missed something. I think I missed a post or 5 - oh well.

I will say that your rating me up for my post even though I started the name calling was quite honorable and I respect that even with your follow on post. I would like to apologize for starting the name calling it was not called for on my part; this is just a topic that I have an especially strong opinion on and acted accordingly.

Your quote is a JFK quote but it is worded slightly different from the real quote ["And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country"].

Also I have a lot of respect for JFK but he is also the person that called himself a Donut in front of a lot of German citizens in 1963 ["Ich bin ein Berliner"].

So to better address my opinions without resorting to name calling...

First to discuss military educational requirements:

All 2LTs and 1Lts are required to have an Associates degree
All Captains and above are required to have bachelors degrees
Most LTC and above have at least one advanced degree

Most enlisted personnel need to complete at least an associate’s degree in order to earn the promotion points required to get promoted to Staff Sergeant. A large number of Sergeant First Classes and above have their bachelor’s degrees and some have advanced degrees also.

First I will state that I am an Officer and the following portion does not apply to me but it is kind of sad to see once you see the numbers broken down for the American enlisted soldier deployed in a combat zone.

The majority of the soldiers in Combat Brigade size element and below fall within the ranks of Private through Specialist. They literally have the hardest jobs in the unit because they are where the rubber meets the road conducting all of the dangerous missions in both Iraq and Afghanistan. They are the personnel that are on the line getting into fire fights etceteras. They risk the most and are paid the least amount of money.

The standard military person works at least 6 days a week and 12 hours a day in a combat zone. E-1 through E-4s make between 1000-dollars through 2500-dollars a month. Most E-1s through E-4s do not qualify for BAH [basic allowance for housing], a lot are married and all are conducting hazardous duty. So the bonuses they receive from combat tours are: 250-dollars for family separation pay, 150-dollars for imminent danger pay and 250-dollars for hazardous duty pay *names of the pays might be slightly different* so they receive and additional 400-dollars for none married soldiers and 650-dollars for married ones. Add on the roughly 300-dollars that they will not be taxed now and it takes it to 700-950 extra dollars.

So all told the average E1-E4 makes 2000+(700/950) = about 2600 average.

Pay: 2600 a month

The hours/month the work are: 26*12= 312

Hours: 312

Dollars/hour: $8.33 per hour

Now add in the fact that they are away from there families, have nothing really to do in there off time and are in extremely dangerous situations and $8.33 per hour is completely shitty.

I think the American tax payer is getting a pretty good value for their dollar when the numbers are being worked out.

So back to the OP – That is why I think he has earned the right to become a citizen; because he has sacrificed for American ideals and America can make a sacrifice by allowing him and his family citizenship.

Wait, what? You get to be born in your country and be a citizen? I wasn't considered a citizen of my country even after living there my entire life (Granted, all I had to do was fill out a simple form after I turned 18 ). Then again, my country has some odd laws...

They should be at least given a period of relief to finish the process to become legal, and that's being generous. Other than that, I'm sorry, they may be nice people and doing their part for the country, but if you've ignored the laws for so long, you really don't have anyone but yourself (although in this case, arguably their parents) to blame.

Dante already admitted to it, no need to call him that... repeatedly.

wow if you guys are going to quote JFK you might as well do it right!

Here's what he said:

"My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you -- ask what can you do for your country."
This was followed up by,
"My fellow citizens of the world, ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man."
