??? Admin?

that way they can be totally impartial because they don't care about anyone or anything having to do with us, amirite?

in all seriousness that was probably the plan.

I wouldn't be surprised at all. But it would be a stupid plan. If you don't know about the game and the community, you're not qualified to run a forum dedicated to said game and community. Period.

I dont' want Sculli to go ; ;

Neither do I, but honestly, I don't konw why he put upp with us as long as he did.

People bitch about everything. He tries to fix something, he gets bitched at, then when he tries to fix that he gets bitched at some more. Like people bitch about him playing favorites, then when he gets someone impartial, people bitch about that.

Ya can't please all the people all the time. Scullis only mistake was trying to do that. Anyone who doesn't want to see him go, thank the "community" that "Wasn't Split" when he tried to make changes to make the boards a bit more friendly.

I had a friend try out FF. His complaints were the prices and the Community. He made a couple of posts here and got attacked then quit playing. Way to be friendly guys. Fucking bravo. Sculli wasn't the problem and tried to be the solution. A majority of the community just threw it back in his face.

Almost everything you just said is just plain ... incomplete ... and this one sentence sums up why fairly well.

It wasn't that "Sculli wasn't the problem, and tried to be the solution." It was that there wasn't ANY problem, and Sculli tried to be a solution.

THAT is what was thrown back in Sculli's face. An unnecessary fix to something that wasn't broken was really the thing that began the nastiness. Sculli wasn't trying to "please" anyone but himself ... the hopping back and forth that followed was simply him trying to make everyone happy with the way in which he thrust his own forum into chaos.

{True Stike} {Fact}

Remember the reason qcnn was created because admin removed Flameboard section, and when that section was removed, people Bitched about it.
There is always a restriction on the places you go, if you don't like it, leave, plain and simple, don't whin about it

So... Sculli didn't clean up the flameboard when Seppeku made 30 new posts in 10 minutes? Sculli didn't pay for web space out of his own pocket so we'd have enough bandwidth? He didn't set up contests and giveaways? He didn't make LS boards for us? He didn't take the time to make the board in the first place? He didn't try to get the gilseller ads off the site?

Oh wait, I get it, he did all that stuff, but it's trivial because he removed the flameboard and now we don't have a place to go insult each other. Makes perfect sense. That's what a community is all about, insulting each other. You sir, are an ingrate.

Thats an individual user, no relation to a FB, or anything else.

Him and the users who supported the site, an oft forgotten detail.

Did this Before the removal of the FB. Incidently, he hasnt done this since, even though he said he removed it so that more sponsors would be interested.
Trippyhippy said:

Done before FB removal, not relevant to the issue.
Trippyhippy said:

I'll give him this one, although i'm not sure how it impacts the argument.
Trippyhippy said:

He Tried that with google adsense, but gave up because it was impossible. The only ones he "removed" were the ones that he'd put there himself.

QCDN isnt the entirety of the comunity, its just a part of it. QCDN+the entire Quetzalcoatl server is the comunity. Along with all the furstrations that come with the package.

My point exactly. If it isn't about the flameboard, it doesn't count.

The evils men do live on long after, while the good is often interred with their bones.

What next? Want to tell me he was too ambitious?

And no, the entire server is not 1 community, There are what? 10 languages spoken across the server? People I can't communicate with are not part of the qcdn community.

I won't really comment on any of the stuff in this thread as it is already turning into circlejerking again, however;

This is simply not true.
I have removed all RMT ads from the Adsense cycle as I came across them, or as they were pointed out to me. There are currently no RMT ads showing up in the Adsense cycle, ask yourself how likely that is for a gaming site if there was no intervention on my part.

I've seen 3 so far today. 2 for accounts, one for hacks/cheats. Saw another for WoW gold, its not FFXI gil so i'll concede it.

And during the original Gilseler ad thread on the FB, you said somthing along the lines that you could ony remobve a finite amount of links, while the numbers of RMT sites would be larger than that. I'd serch for it, but the thread seems to be gone. Snap.

So you never see any of the QCDN members anywhere else?
Thats the difference between these message boards, and others. Most messaged boards interaction is limited to the boards itself. QCDN does not have that. Encounters in the game spill over to here, as well as opinions and the like.
QCDN isnt a true comunity, its just one facet of a much larger one.

There's always the Habbo Hotel

Adsense allows for the removal of up to 200 domains. We are not there yet. I do remove the ads when I see them, or when they are pointed out to me.

On December 5th 2005 I wrote in reply to Gil for sale banners - wtf! (FB content, not accessible to most):
Sculli said:
I am able to block domains from being included in the ads, and that is something I am working on. However, I can only ad them to the block list after they have been displayed, and then it takes Google hours to pull that particular domain from the ad cycle shown at QCDN.

I currently have 42 domains on the block list, and every time a gil seller ad is pulled due to the block, it is replaced with some other gil seller domain. I can only block 200 domains, so it is quite possible that in the end gil seller ads are here to stay because the gil seller domain numbers exceed the block capability. We will know when we get there.

On Febryary 3rd 2006 I wrote in reply to QCDN's Messed up priorities (also on the FB):

Sculli said:
I can't possibly predict every ad that may show up in the adsense block. As many have pointed out, the ads tend to be more or less keyword specific, sometimes they do relate to FFXI in some way, often they don't.

If you find objectionable content ads, feel free to PM me with the URL and I will have a look and see whether it is worth removing it from the adsense cycle.

I only have the option to remove 200 links total. Most of those slots are taken up by gil sellers but there are a few more open ones.

As of today 142 domains are blocked from displaying their ads in the cycle, so there still is room.

One thing to remember is that if an ad says "Buy GIL" that doesn't mean it actually is an RMT ad. There is a company called Gildan Activewear at the NYSE that has the ticker symbol GIL, also, some web sites advertise with a template "BUY <insert most common term on target web page here>" (local.com is one of them). So those ads are not gil seller ads, even if they happen to say "buy gil".

Regardless, to date I have removed real RMT ads as I come across them, and several people pointed out domains that needed to be banned when I didn't personally notice those domains running ads here.
