They better not F**k the movie with these vocies. Even if they do i will buy it but thats beside the point. I hate seeing good movies/anime in jp brought to english then butchered like a fish.

Theres not really a ton of dialog in it to mess much up... its solely a really good action movie.

But when they do talk, I hope they don't ruin the dramatic aspect of the dialog when they dub it to english.

Well one part of the movie bugs and i know there is a big miss translation. i Hope they get it right or something. btw its the part before bahamut where rude and reno are talking to the 2 spirit dudes(i forgot their names lol) and they say something like "you have no faith in us huh?" and they get all hurt.

I will be impressed if they capture how dramatic the converstion is when Cloud first talks to the turks when they dub it in english.

I'm happy to be a minority. Thank you. Dub ftw. I don't watch anime to read subtitles. I watch anime for the animation and I can't fully enjoy that if I have to focus on reading text in order to understand the story... meh.. It's less enjoyable to me that way.

I will add, that I do hate bad dubbing jobs. So, I really hope they do a good job with it. Considering how well they did on Spirits Within, I'm betting it will come out just fine. I'm pretty sure SE knows better than to F-Up one of thier biggest hits.

I'll never understand the mindset behind this. Watching something in japanese wont help you achieve any higher level of "geekness".

The realistic reason to watch something in subtitles, is because many of the american dubs pic cheap voice acting to just release it.

But theres plenty done very well, take Golden Boy for example.

Yeah, and that's the reason why most of the sane Anime fans will also admit that some anime has no issues at all Dubbed (Trigun is a very big example - I personally prefer the English VAs to the Japanese for almost all characters). The thing is, most dubs are just embarrassing to listen to.. =/

Some of the voices were good, but did you hear rock lee and Gai? That made me want to punch through my tv it sucked so bad.

I think Gai's voice (as in the sound of it) was good.. the actor just sucked with emotions and speaking a sentance right >.>

HAHAHA that's just bs. Like stated earlier in this thread, I too don't want to spend my time reading, some of us are slow readers, if we want to read, we'll go web surfing or grab a magazine. We prefer dubbing because when you understand the language & it's second nature to you, when something happens, you can feel the emotions the voice actors are trying to portrey & actually be engulfed in the cinema. I outright refuse to watch, err I mean read... subbed unless there is no dubbed available & whatever it is, is truly worth watching. I have not seen Advent Children yet because it was subbed. I like many others have chosen to wait to see if there would be a dubbed release before degrading our viewing experience by watching subbed.

the guy playing Yazoo is Kakashi in the english version of naruto :P and Red XIII is Gaara from it. And like... half the actors here were in Cowboy Bebop (not all of the major rolls but ya.. not bad actors). This looks promising.

Kakashi woot!

ya, I prefer dubbing to watch the anime.. I think most that prefer subbing are just japanophiles D: (Or they are right and the dub has horrible voices but most anime I've ever watched have good voice actors D: )

I hate to admit it, but watching a JP movie with subtitles is quite fun. Sometimes you may miss something, but you can always go back and watch the part again for the full effect. Its just the same as having someone say something quietly and being unable to understand what they said. If people like the anime and don't care if it's subtitles, thats awesome, because it means i dont have to waste another 200 megs of my time by downloading the dubbed version which doesnt sound as awesome as the japanese emotions that we americans try so hard, but suck at, to get right. Seeing anime in its natural state is what I like because the creators may have intended a certain effect that americans may not be able to maintain through the translation of emotions.

The real arguement has never been Dubbed vs Subbed. It's been about those who Dub the anime not casting the voice acting parts to the best of their abilities.

You're still in the minority, most of the anime fans agree that the subtitles are usually better; because the dubbed versions are often changed/censored to hell(aka: One Piece). The subtitles at least, you get exactly what the characters are saying, rather than some crappy translation of it. There's also the fact that with a lot of anime the VA's suck(often get the emotions wrong ) or bad voices were chosen for the characters, that makes a lot of fans prefer the original subs. This is of course discounting the increasing amount of anime that is actually dubbed WELL, which is unfortunately a recent trend. Most of the older anime dubs were shit, and a lot was changed.

One really good example is Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. When you play the DVD, you have the option of which voice track to use and to play with subtitles or not. At one point, I played the english voice track and the english subtitles to see how they matched up, and the subtitles were far better than the sound. They changed some things that were designed to sound poetic into just simple statements that took some of the mystique out of the movie; same thing often happens in anime or any foreign piece.

It's still very easy to both read the subtitles and watch the video at the same time without missing anything. After a short time, you can do it automatically so you're not having to work at it. Having the subtitles is even more beneficial than the dubs, because there's less that you'll misunderstand. I actually prefer watching anything in English with subtitles(or closed captioning for TV) on, specifically because if I miss-hear something or the volume suddenly changes(whispers, etc.) then I can still understand what is being said without having to go back and hear it again or change any of the controls. Only downside to subs is that you have to pay attention to know what's going on, you can't just have it somewhat in the background and still follow the story.

Based on the list they have for the english VA's, they've put some good thought into most of the characters. It'll be interesting to see if they can pull everything off, but I'll buy the DVD regardless.

Oh and ele, Gai's VA is horrible for the character. Both Rock and Gai are complete dorks and their voices reflect that, but in the dubs, you don't get that impression at all. Rock's I can live with, but Gai's just makes me die a little inside every time he talks.

Weirdo >_>. Plus w/dub if your watching it at a friends house, if you gotta step away from the tube, at least you can still hear it & understand the parts your missing visually.

Meh, I'm weird, but I can multi-task. I mentioned having to pay attention in my post, it's the only real downside to no dubs.
