AFK - Fighting the War

Update:

1. Still pluggin' and chuggin'. Just making it over the midpoint hump now.

2. I got to go into one of the nearby cities for the first time for some rest and relaxation. I am now more terrified of Arab drivers than I am of Arab terrorists... and I will never complain about having to drive in California or DC ever again. Someone needs to teach these people the meaning of the word "merge."

everything is fair in war and on the road here ;p

If you'll notice, I have said nothing more specific than being in the Middle East. Thanks though, Mistra.

And yes, all is fair on the road here, Dayner. What I wouldn't give to have the Texas State Highway Patrol around.

cheers celv and apologies for not noticing it sooner, not a fun job but someone has to do it

glad you're still ok

Celv man take it easy over there bro if you need anything let us know

Checking in... entering the home stretch now.

Notes from the field:

1) Deployed Thanksgiving... actually kicks ass. The spread they put on was amazing. I think I undid 2.5 months of working out every day in one sitting. So worth it though.
2) The desert can actually get cold. I could believe I had to break out a jacket the other day.
3) They need to change Department of Defense homosexuality policy. Instead of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, it needs to be: Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and Don't Freaking Sing "It's Raining Men" during Karaoke night at the bar. /shakes head.

When the only women around you are either military or dressed as ninja's, I understand.

If you're singing "It's Raining Men," I don't think anyone needs to ask.

There are actually some deployed women here who are legitimately awesome looking, and not just good looking by desert standards. Too bad they're either married or enlisted.

Confirmed.

I was going to the scheduling section and got caught by a Cpl. checking out her ass. "I want to be friends with it"

She was in civilian clothes and didnt notice who she was until she looked me dead in the face.

The Cpt. standing beside me noticed but didnt say anything..

Neither of those have stopped many before, not in the Navy anyway... And if you don't think for a second that 99% of those girls get around out there you're crazy.

and I'm yet to see a hot officer honestly, Air Force, Navy, w/e

They really do look like ninjas though... it's hilarious.

And in terms of getting around: according to the stats from the previous deployment rotation, every woman deployed to the desert would have had to have sex 40+ times in order to use up all the condoms dispensed through the various military health clinics.

Either people are getting *really* busy or cheapos are just saving up and taking them home.

Or, people are playing pranks such as filling some dude's suitcase FULL of condoms and setting it up so that its his wife that opens it. Not that this has NEVER happened before in our unit, of course.

sound fun
so hows the food ? , any big mac ? ;p

The food is actually pretty damned good. Of course, I'm trying to get into better shape, so I have to pass up the good stuff most of the time.

They have both a nice spread for those who are trying to eat healthy, and an even better spread for those who don't care. You could, if you wanted to, have omelets for breakfast, burger and fries for lunch, and pizza or chicken wings for dinner every day. Oh, and there's always a whole bunch of cakes, cookies, pies, and ice cream available.

Being on a diet here sucks. :(

Also, I've managed to cross off two things during this deployment on my list of natural phenomena to see in my lifetime. A couple months ago, I saw St. Elmo's Fire from the air, and just recently, I saw rain in the desert.

Did you see it on your aircraft? That'd be cool as hell unless you didn't know what it was. Then it'd be scary as fuck, especially on an AWAC with all of those electronics.

Agree'd on all points about the galley food. Cheap or free depending on where you are, I've never been disapointed with galley food. Let me guess, you're eating a lot of rice?
