Age of Conan

Yeesh. I'll need to beef up my rig. Having a 1920x1200 native resolution screen keeps biting me in the ass.

AMD 4800+
8800GT 512
2 Gig ram...

Does the game seem to be mainly videocard dependent, is it a memory hog, what is your cpu utilization?

Game is heavy on the ram. I run 2 gigs of corsair dominator 1066 mhz ram fairly well w/o issues, but I also run on a smaller screen.

With 1920x1200 you probably want a 9800 card or a pair of SLI'd 8000 series video cards anyways.

Hit level 20 tonight (almost 21). Game is fun, but some of the quests are dull and repetitive, as in just about any MMO. That's to be expected though, so I can't really complain.

I'm most eager to see dungeon crawling and raid-type PvE battles. That stuff will either make or break Conan for me personally.

Another important question that you should be able to answer pretty soon: Does it look like RMT will be ably to royally fuck up the economy of this game or did they put in safeguards against this? What is your take so far? Two more weeks and I'm totally snagging this.

Too early to tell if there'll be a significant RMT presence.

edit: I would imagine they'll try, but the level of coordination, strategy and focus required to kill stuff (mobs AI gets way smarter as you level up) would lead me to believe that there won't be as much of a presence as in other games. Conan isn't just button mashing like other games. Each fight is unique and mobs can react different ways to what you are doing. That challenge alone will deter some of them from ever getting to the real money-making encounters that I'd imagine we'll find later on in the game.

As far as my opinion, I'm glad I picked it up. I still haven't experienced harvesting, crafting, mounted combat, pvp, sieges or raiding so it's still tough to tell how it's going to compare to other MMOs. It def seems promising though.

Bah I picked it up during lunch. I am listening to the soundtrack as I type this. The soundtrack sounds pretty epic so far. Now to put off starting my free 30 days until I have moved into my house and have internet up and running. /wrist

HUGE lol at the min requirements list, 32GB to install. Damn!

Edit: Gah, the servers are down I can't update.

holy fuck at the 32 gig install >.>

It's actually smaller than that but when I saw that on the box I thought it was funny. It's still huge though. It's actually ~25GB when installed.

Edit: All patched up and now just to put off registration until I have internet hooked up at the new house... I hope to be playing by May 30th.

Servers down till 12am EST to prepare for the real launch. Sucks I was about to hit 23 when they dropped :\

27 now. Also made an alt priest of mitra to help a buddy of mine (12 Dark templar) catch up since the other two friends i'm playing with are 50 and 45 already.

More server downtime though :(

Any quezters on Omm server yet?

Good god, leveling sounds way too fast.

im tempted to try it but idont know if i do.... i heard the UI sucks...

It's really not. The people I play with are power gamers...hardcore playing around the clock. Normal people are mostly in their mid teens to early 20s. I'm prob just barely ahead of your average player since I've had rl stuff going on and havent clocked as many hours. Keep in mind the level cap is 80, unlike the 50 cap we're used to in most fledgling MMOs.

My friends also played BETA and knew the quests up to level 30 or so, which helps and is largely why they blew me away while I was trying to learn the controls. The learning curve will really slow new players down, but it isn't overly complicated once you get a feel for the controls.

The UI QUestion--

The UI can't be changed, so some people who are used to custom UIs aren't thrilled. The UI they provide is functional enough so far though. I haven't found a real good way to incoporate my G15 keyboard yet, but I did manage to download a profile that allows some G15 useage.

I would like to see them offer additional macro bars down the road, but other than that the UI they have implemented works just fine...for now at least. I haven't seen the raid UI yet so that will be something to look at down the road.

Could you share the G15 link, I have a few friends and myself that are interested.

nevermind! I just found a couple of screenshots of customized conan UI's. I guess it can be done, and more are in the works.

I just can't access the stupid conan forums for some reason. I get an invalid username message, which is weird because I have all my sub status up to date.

what is gear like in the game? and gear designs?

are items easy to obtain like WoW with soul-bound items? or is it very money-based like FFXI?

Here go my personal impression about the game

1) The release was prety smooth for standard player. For people who played around the clock and hited lv 30-40 in the pre-launch they got fucked badly since the game is not completly done in this level. My rl friend try to unlearn is feat (same things as talent in wow) and lost is riding skill and crafting skill at the same time. Lots of quest reward are not implented yet and so on.

2) The combat style rely got me on the game. I do like it better then just smashing 1 button

3)Being on a complete Free-For-All server it does get anoying sometimes. You need to be whit a buddy at all time so you wont get ganked by lonely people. Best way is to from a static gorup whit 1-2 real life friend so you don't get fuck by every 5 years old mentality wich try to kill every one they see.

4) YOU NEED HELL OF A COMP TO RUN THIS AT MAX. The game is designed to eat ram. I suggest a better dual -core then a quad since at the moment the game is optimized for a dual core. The SLI is not yet incorporated as the final DX10.

5) Over all I give an 8,9/10

See you on Doomsayer FFA server (alot of french people out there)
