I've suffered some hardships recently, so I've been yearning again for an MMORPG to escape into. World of Warcraft is what I was leaning towards, and I was seriously gearing up for it (re-reading old lore and plaing through WC3), but ... I caught a review of Age of Conan, did a little research, and ... I'm totally convinced. After it launched the way it did (some are calling it the most successful, problem-free major MMO launch in history), with the following it's amassing already, I just have to give it a try.
I can't pass up the opportunity to get in on a new, possibly epic MMORPG from the ground floor. Popular opinion seems to be that while it will probably not exactly come anywhere near WoW's level in terms of popularity ... all signs point to it being the strongest competitor.
I flirted with the idea of returning to a lot of other MMORPGs I've played, too. The thought of coming back to FFXI had too much baggage attached. The game is old, dying, and just seeing my character run around Aht Urgahn again will depress me with the fact of how much I never had the opportunity to do in-game, when it was actually fresh and new.
Everquest is just flat out dead to me. They've killed it.
World of Warcraft ... it's good, but, I've been there and done that. I've been gone so long, and missed out on so much, I know that I'll just end up feeling like I'm "behind."
AoC looks incredible, graphically. That's not everything, or even a QUARTER of a good MMORPG ... but it's a start. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
