This looks pretty cool-- inc question blitz:
What is the combat system like? Macros? Combo arrows?
Is it PvE based or PvP?
Is there classic raiding?
What current market MMO would be the closest to this if you were to compare them?
When does it launch?
This one's on my radar now and I may consider messing around with it when it comes out.
Ana wassup man!
Ok to answer your questions:
Combat system is skill based with auto attack like FFXI/WoW(you can make custom macro's like WoW and FFXI - keyboard keys 1-0, alt 1-0) based on my limited beta experience. There are also skill combos i.e. attack skill 1 >> attack skill 2 (which you can make into a custom macro if you want). Honestly, those who've played WOW will feel at home.
It is PvPvE - There is the DMZ Area called the ABYSS where it is full PvPvE (higher level NPC mobs are there as well), but you wouldn't really go there until you're ready. There are a lot of areas where you can pretty much hit max level doing PvE activities if you so choose, but all the real awesome gear is attained via the ABYSS. NCsoft is in the process of making quests to attain awesome gear via PvE quests as well, but it will take a longer time than it would take via the Abyss, ala FFXI. Quests and mobs in the Abyss give more EXP versus the PvE areas and you can engage in duels with PC's of your own faction at anytime. There is classic raiding based on a lot of video's I've seen and downloaded.
One aspect of the Abyss that appeals to me is the holding of Castle's/Strongholds by Legions(Guilds). There are great benefits of holding a stronghold in the abyss like money and gear (tax from NPC merchants in controlled strongholds go straight to the Legion who controls said stronghold). Unfortunately, your stronghold can be raided by the opposing faction at anytime or by the NPC faction called the Balaur. There are also instanced raids you can participate in.
Aion launches in NA - September 2009 (supposedly) but there are rumors it may launch a little earlier than that.
Ana, the beta for the Asmodian faction starts this Friday @ noon so if you want to participate, go to your nearest Gamestop, put 5 bucks down on Aion Preorder and you will receive an Aion Beta Serial Code. Create a master account here:
http://us.ncsoft.com/en/
and activate the beta access with the serial code. You'll get the option to download the PC client as well. Log in and give it a shot on Friday June 19th @ 12pm PST!
P.S. The Rangers in Aion are pretty sexy.
