Aion- discuss

I'm sold on the gameplay now it's just goin' to be how you get your "end game" stuff I'm waitin' to know. If it's through PvP, I may do it. If it's through dungeons I'm 100% sold, but if the best armor in the game is the top set you can buy for like a mil in the big cities, that's just discouraging'. I like to find my stuff.

Then prepare to be pleasantly surprised. Aion is one of those MMOs with actual equipment progression in place, and you won't be wearing something for a level 30 at level 50 that's easily bought. Read as: It's just like every MMO that isn't FFXI as far as gear goes.

I disagree though. The graphics of the game are amazing, considering it's an MMO. Character detail and animation are very, very well done. The disappointment lies in the particle effects from spells and abilities. They're fairly lackluster.

There are a few things that just stand out like a sore thumb to me. The sky is not animated, at all, some of the small environment things like plants, trees, brush, etc. looks like paper cut outs, and the mountains, like most of the landscape, just look dull. Some things, like the water, which despite this still looks kinda cool, and certain mobs are just -over- HDed. That's all forgiven and just my opinion though, I just had better expectations the way it was built up to me.

I've gotten over all of the negatives I found at the start and after your equipment info I'm sure I'll buy it. At the very least farmin' Manastones would probably give me kicks for a month or so.

Which sky? it is animated and I even made an animated Vista Desktop Wallpaper out of it ;) . I agree, they did skimp out on some stuff, but it's not only noticeable if you're actually looking for it. When you get up to higher levels is where the game starts to shine. I'm 25 now and am really enjoying Chanter even more with new abilities, all the equip custimization, quests, ABYSS, Green/Blue gear hunting, Green Manastone and Enchantment stone debacles hehe (you'll understand when you get there..).

I'm talkin' about the actual sky. In all of the areas I have been to, I'm Asmodian and LV 12 so you can do the math there, there is a picture hung up that doesn't move until dusk or dawn then I'm not sure what happens because I haven't watched it. However after the move, it's the same picture and never moves, the stars don't even blink or anything. There are things below it that are suppose to be clouds, at least in the main city and the next area, for 10+, but it's more like dust than anything. What they have done in these areas is simply put up a still picture, and excludin' the flashbacks which do not have anything more than a picture, added a little cloudage/dust below. In the actual levelin' area after you reach the main city it snows but their are no clouds and the sky never moves, at all.

The reason it's so noticeable is how detailed the sky drawings are. They draw a vortex in the original and it doesn't move, it just sits there. They've made the drawings too detailed instead of doin' like Blizzard did in WoW. WoW has a color backdrop and the vortexes are added like clouds so they actually move and the sky looks like it filters through things. The sky is only a color, not a detailed drawing, so it's more believable. It would help if NC would have put their clouds higher up too.

However, that's just my experience in areas I've been to. No idea what the skies look like later on. If it's anything like Guild Wars the entry areas greatly differ from the later areas, the areas most likely for the prime player to use most. Basically them savin' space/cuttin' corners to truly pull their punches in the long haul. It could also be that I'm missin' a settin' in the options menu that isn't on by default, I maxed out the obvious settings though.

Maybe the world has less of an atmosphere than Earth. EVER THINK OF THAT STRID, HUH?! :P

Good point. I just laughed my ass off.

On another note, I put the Bloom Effect on Type 3 and the game looks a little better. Not sure what it did but the little things like shrubs and some trees look more detailed, as does the environment. I also found out our version is missin' 3 graphical updates.

Wind Spirit is pretty gosh darn ridiculous. Motherfucker runs fast as shit. Too bad he can't really take much of a beating. :(

e: also, he's kind of adorable.

How'd you get rid of all the names and UI for that picture Skaw?

Also, picture update from me and my crappy computer.

My poor Gladiiator sits at 17, but he's a boss.

Yeah, Wind Spirit is by far the cutest one.

Sadly, Earth Spirit is better for soloing mobs higher level than you and mobs hat hit hard, Fire Spirit for soloing stuff at your level/lower level, and Water Spirit for DPS in group play, as well as PVP in air.

Wind Spirit is best for PVP without air, since he's fast enough to catch up with anyone. He do, however, have lower damage than Fire Spirit, less HP that Fire as well, so its not very good other than for PVP.

I'm kind of bummer Elyos get the Water/Wind combined spirit at 50, 'cause Wind and Water are the best ones for PVP, as well as the highest damaging one (Water) . Its unfair, as I'm guessing it is superior to Fire/Earth combination in end-game =(

Had a great time this weekend on my Sorc :) Think I will def roll one as an alt! It was fun playing the other side of the fence as an Elyos but I must say I think Asmos look a lot cooler and have way better music ;)

See you guys in a few weeks! :)

Aww my Sorc, Mint. Isn't she cute? :D!!

F12 removes UI aspects. Theres two other commands, one that just removes text(redundant with F12,) and another that removes all PCs but yours.

I must say I think Asmos look a lot cooler

I agree, Elyos equipment looks too.. blah.. compared to Asmodian equipment.

and have way better music ;)

I disagree with this one though.

So another Beta bites the dust. I really enjoyed this Beta 4 this time around since there was a lot of Abyss action to be had. Pictures to come!

There was a huge battle between Asmos and Elyos today. It was so long, in fact, that the only thing that stopped it was the servers closing down. Everyone stood in the same room just fighting.

It made me think, is that how the entire end-game will be? 200 Asmos facing off against 200 Elyos in the same room? 'cause people died pretty fast, lol. Eventually I just gave up and went back to questing.

hehe was it something like this? We were heavily outnumbered but managed to keep them at bay..

I feel ya bro. I hate the pressure on having to squeeze as much in a short period of time because it kinda takes the fun out of some things. I forced myself to step away for an hour or two (and didn't lose sleep time in the process) and the excitement/drive came back super fast.

I hope for next closed beta, they still retain the level 25 cap so that pressure is kinda alleviated by putting players in the quasi "max" level state of enjoying/testing other parts of the game instead of the grinding. I still want to get more blue+ equipment for my character and finish all the pending quests damnit!

i just dont get the stupid weekend testing. why not just open the gates up??? try making a new char right now to level. its just one huge clusterfuck of everyone killing the same mobs. it takes forever to quest sometimes because everyone is doing the same quest as you.

when the game comes out i almost want to wait a few weeks to start playing so that i could quest at a normal pace and not be forced to fight for the same 5 pops.
