Aion- discuss

Of course there should be difficult quests. However, I do not see the point in making a low-level quest meant to ease the grinding hard, when all it provides you with is a minimal amount of currency and some exp.

Are you seriously comparing end-game quests meant to provide the player with the best equipment and low-level quests meant for gaining levels? Maybe its just me, but if every quest, even the low level ones, were that hard, I'd probably quit before I even got to the highest level. Why not go a step further and say mobs are too easy and should all be like AV, because otherwise there's no sense of accomplishment when you hit level 2.

Yes, end-game quests meant to provide the player with an advantage over others, be it through stat boosts, equipment, or something else (stigma slots for example), then yes, the quest needs to pose a challenge. However, level 7 is not the place for hard quests that require you to run halfway across the world to complete, for a small amount of currency and exp. That would mean only the hardcore players would play the game, and I'm sorry to tell you, but hardcore players are not in the majority.

Well no, I suppose this is a good point. What I'm talking about applies mostly to late game content. But even that content falls into the category of mindless timesinks in many games these days.

The fact that clicking a button was too hard for someone sent me off on a wild tangent ><

fair enough xD

Okay to be fair now. I believe I initially misunderstood one of Trist's complaints, and henceforth went off on the wrong thing.

And I can see why he was upset at what occurred and unfortunately for that particular quest, there is nothing to stop that from happening.

Asmodian and Elyos quests are relatively similar from 1-10. The only difference being different mob and different npc and story dialog. But the quests themselves share similarities. As an asmodian, the quest that mirrors the Elyos quest to fight a boss monster and take the treasure behind it is called "The Black Pearl". I don't know what it's title is as Elyos. In both cases though you go to a cave, as an asmodian that cave has a named tiger inside of it which is harder than the surrounding mobs of similar type. Behind said tiger is a chest type thing that you need to open in order to get the item needed to complete the quest.

However, anyone needing this quest can open the one chest. Thus causing anyone else to have to wait for the chest to respawn. Trist got jipped because some asshole came in and opened the chest while he had just finished killing the mob, almost dying in the process since he's made of tissue paper as a mage.

Initally I was thinking he was complaining about some dude who stole his quest loot off of a mob. I don't believe that was the case now.

The actual situation is unfortunate, and sadly for that particular quest there isn't really any remedy to stop that from happening. On the bright side, I have not seen any more quests like that since that one particular newbie zone quest.

I had no problem soloing that mob as a mage =/ His post made me think he was a scout. I had a much harder time soloing it as scout then I did as mage.

Different playing styles...

YEAH BOY, now I'm a substandard mage.

It sucks when someone twists your words, doesn't it lol. In all seriousness though, I'm the mage, and the jackhole who ganked the loot was a Scout - again, my disclaimer that "not all scouts are jackasses" stands.

Ecks finally gets it by the way, and the fix is simple - kill the mob, get the item off the mob - not from a chest behind the mob, or make it so the person who delivers the killshot is the only one who can open the chest.

... or make it so the person who delivers the killshot is the only one who can open the chest.

Well, that's still gonna be taken advantage of from steal killing assholes. Some people are just a-holes, no getting rid of them sadly. The loot being on the mob is the better solution, and from what I've seen that is how it works for all the other quests I had. To top it off, even if someone loots that quest item from the mob and they're in the same party with you, you will still be able to loot that mob and get your quest item.

Regular drops tend to go to the person who did the most damage or are held in reserve for those that did damage. Say I did a lot of damage, but maybe didn't do the most. I'll still be able to loot the mob and get a few items from it. I also like that any armor or weapon drops are instantly put up in a lot pool, where you have a meter that counts down the time you have to put your lot up for the piece.

From my experience in the game about 75% of the people I partied with were considerate and polite with drops. If they didn't need it for their immediate class, they passed the lot and those that could actually use it lotted. The other 25% were loot whores who lotted on everything, so you pretty much had to toss your lot on even if you didn't really need the item. (could at least sell it for money)

I'm telling you people collectively about a feature that I think cheapens quests.

So does the Internet through guides and message board posts, and asking people/friends/guildmembers how to complete them. Please tell me, oh beacon of honest play, that you've never resorted to looking up or asking for a solution to a quest or monster spawn location before.

It's actually idiotic to not include a feature like Locate anymore, as information about anything is posted on fansites and knowledge bases as soon as they're discovered anyway.

Ya know, it's just hitting me now, but after playing this for 3 days or however long that last beta was open it's seeming very very lame that I can't play it right now.

lol. Just wait for the 2-day head start or the open beta if you wanna do that.

when does the open beta start? I have been looking everywhere for a date and haven't found one.

im going to laugh at you all when this game turns out to be yet again Lineage II with a different story/graphics.. and if it isnt well you can laugh at me :)

I've never played lineage 2 so I don't know what that means.

Same, I have no idea what he means. Maybe because Linage II was suppose to be some super awesome mmo and it failed? *shrug* I strongly believe Aion wont fail.

Lineage II was the second most successful MMO(After Lineage 1) until WoW came out a year later. Not to mention Aion plays radically different from Lineage II, which was grindy as fuck with a massive experience penalty on death and an entirely different PvP system.

If Aion turns out to be like Lineage II in terms of subscribers, NCsoft should be very pleased with themselves. Anyone who makes an MMO that nets over 2 million or so concurrent subscribers should be pleased with themselves. You don't need to be the top dog to have a successful title.
