http://www.plaync.com/us/games/aion/This game -looks- pretty cool. I've played Guild Wars and have enjoyed it, it has nice graphics and imho the only downfall is that it has been an "instant" MMO, unlike FFXI.

There is no release date set yet, but I'm looking forward to trying it out. The whole concept of having wings and flying is intriguing!

I've known about this game for quite some time and it does look absolutely amazing. Unfortunately for me I think I'll need a much better computer than my current one in order to enjoy this game fully. ; ;

i played an closed beta of an MMO not too long ago called perfect world that let you have wings and you could fly, was pretty cool. This looks cool too!

Been waiting for this since it was announced at E3 couple of years ago. The game looks promising though we won't know until it's released in English.

We are currently in the process of localizing and culturalizing the game for the western market in order to reach the same level of quality that the game provides and are in heavy planning for our testing phases in North America and Europe.

so they say, I wonder how long it will take for it to release in Eu and NA.

I love the graphics, they look pronominal. I could never get into WoW because the graphics are so corny and ugly with bad colours.

How is the game play? The community? I haven't seen any pictures of combat or GUI either.

I won't keep translating numbers every 50k users hehe.. but these articles were interesting. Also, excuse my constant comparisons to WoW, my bf is a diehard WoW fan so I naturally look for info that might p1ss him off.

Aion Races to 200k Concurrent Users

First day breaks 100k mark; 200k reached in 5 days
80% of players are finding the game 'fun'
91% of players are 20+

After setting a record reaching 100k concurrent OBT users in the shortest amount of time in Korea, NCsoft's Aion has reached 200k concurrent users on the 5th day - November 15th around 8pm. Also impressive is the fact that the numbers hardly fluctuated throughout the weekend, maintaining a growing user rate right until the end of Sunday.

Aion is currently drawing a slightly older crowd, with 79% at ages 20~30 and 12% at 40+, showing that the gamer base has aged since the launch of NCsoft's past products.

In an in-game survey (pops up in game every 10 levels) that more than 300k players replied to, 79.9% reported that the game was 'very fun' or 'fun'.

Survey Results*: How fun is the game so far?

* Very Fun: 36.4%
* Fun: 43.5%
* Average: 18.1%
* Not Fun: 1%
* Extremely Not Fun: 1%

*note: majority of these numbers would have come from players within levels 10-20

Aion is also topping the charts as the number one game in netcafes since the beginning of OBT. (Meanwhile the user numbers of NCsoft's other games Lineage and Lineage2 haven't been much affected so far.)

Based on the numbers, Jaesung Lee an employee at NCsoft suggested that a large number of players that had stopped playing MMOs altogether have been revitalized by Aion.

But can Aion beat WoW? (In Korea)

At the current rate? It's more than possible.
Comparing Aion's user numbers to WoW's launch 4 years ago, there's no doubt that Aion is growing at a comparable rate. Back in 2004 when WoW conducted their OBT, they reached maximum concurrent user numbers of 240k, including the users in queue. Currently Aion's presumed to have 220k users when taking the queued users into account.

WoW has Aion beat in the speed new servers were set up (Aion is currently at 31 servers), but considering that WoW had a lot of server stability issues throughout OBT, the numbers were necessary as a buffer for downtimes.

WoW's OBT Timeline in Korea

* November 12th 2004: WoW starts kOBT with 12 servers. Servers are bombed with users and their website goes down. All servers experience heavy lag.
* November 15th 2004: 24 more servers added in 3 days, reaching a total of 36 servers. Servers are still bombed. At this point it's announced that concurrent user numbers in Korea had broken NA records. Blizzard is stumped.
* November 16th 2004: 8 more servers added. Total 44 servers.
* November 25th 2004: 11 more servers added. Blizzard Korea announces that they'd reached maximum capacity and stops accepting sign ups.
* December 25th 2004: 600k copies of World of Warcraft are pre-ordered. OBT maintains 200k concurrent users.
* January 16th 2005: Open beta ends. 65 total servers at this point. Maximum concurrent users recorded at 240k.
* January 18th 2005: WoW launches with 65 servers.
* January 20th 2005: WoW reaches 100k concurrent subscribed users.

The real race begins after launch

WoW had a very short beta period of 2 months before launching, and it seems that Aion will follow suit. Much of the content held off for after OBT, including the Abyss area, is ready for release so there is no real reason for NCsoft to continue the beta for too long.
There's very little doubt that Aion will reach the 240k OBT concurrent user record that WoW had set 4 years ago. The real question that remains is whether the subscribed user numbers will be equally as impressive.

Good morning guys and girls,

It’s morning in UK-land and the blasted seagulls have once again taken it onto themselves to patrol the perimeters of our office. With one eye on the screen and one eye constantly leering towards their seemingly innocent presence (but I know better), I thought it was about time to make a sweep through our Fansite listing page. I am glad to announce that for now, only two inactive fansites bit the dust, but it still makes for a great 24 non-German, non-French fansites out there. I think it’s amazing that we have so many ambitious individuals prepared to stay up to date on the game.

Speaking of fansites, I would like to welcome a newcomer for today – AionIRC – home of the previously mentioned IRC channel of Aion (#Aion @ Quakenet). Check it out. You may also want to pay a visit to “Legions Of Aion”, a beautiful Dutch fansite that was added the other week. Find it here!

In other news I’m sure you haven’t missed the fact that Aion has broken records when it comes to beta testing in Korea. After a meagre two minutes, concurrency numbers (people playing at the same time) reached 11.000, to later ramp up to 170.000, then 200.000, and from there – well let’s just say that the trend doesn’t seem to be changing. The beta ends in a little bit less than a week and full services are announced to go live in Korea the 25th of November. On our side of the sphere we’re still on for a 2009 launch!

That’s all for today.

Random Aion video lol:

From about 00:15 - 1:55 is just amazing. God I want to play this game.

Looks awesome Darsha. I can't wait to play this game too. ._. I guess I better start saving up money for either new computer parts or a new computer.. This is one mmo I definately would love to play on optimal settings.

its not just flying for travel though, its combat as well, so to counter that I DO hope they spent time on it to make it fun.

Hellrose (Translation) Aion Korean Launch Updates said:
NCsoft has announced the 'key updates' Aion is receiving on their Korean launch on 25th.

----------------------------------------------------------
Source: Official Korean Site
----------------------------------------------------------

Following launch players will be able to enter the 'Abyss' area and experience a variety of other content.
The level cap will be set to 45 following launch. There will not be a server wipe. All characters created during open beta will be kept as is.

The key content updates are as follows:

Abyss

The abyss area will finally be revealed. This is a strategically important area for all three factions of Atreia - the Elyos, the Asmodians and the Balaur - that was created as the Tower of Eternity split apart. Each of the factions will fight for their lives in this area and Aion's world will shift according to its dynamics.

The Abyss also contains PvE content past level 25 and features seamless flight throughout all its areas.

1. How to enter the Abyss

At level 25 you will automatically receive a quest that allows you access to the abyss upon completion. The abyss gates are located in the air and underground of Elyos and Asmodian strongholds.

2. Castle / Artifact Sieges

Various RvR content can be accessed via the castles in the Abyss.
1) Wars between Elyos/Asmodae/Balaur over sieging castles
2) Artifact battles that make up the core of the sieges
Upon a successful castle siege, players ranked highest on the winning faction will receive rewards based on their contribution.

Sieges open up for participation frequently, the rate of which depends on the warring state of the Abyss. The Balaur will show greater amount of strength to the faction that they perceive to be a greater challenge.

3. Abyss Rankings

Accumulated Abyss points will determine your status within your faction as well as granting you access to various benefits.

4. The Balaur
The Balaur will begin their attack on both Elyos and Asmodae. Successful retaliation will bring heaps of rare Balaur item rewards that cannot be acquired outside the Abyss.

5. Secret of Drakonic Equipment
Somewhere in the abyss is a group of people studying the secrets of the Balaur. Their secrets will be available to only the greatest masters in each craft.

Instanced Dungeons

5 instanced dungeons will be added to Atreia. These are meant to be enjoyed in parties and will be a source of rewards unavailable in non-instanced hunting areas.

1. Sanctuary of Fire
This is an ancient and secret storehouse where Daevas had hidden their most powerful weaponry. In order to protect them from Kromede, a Daeva that had been overcome with greed, Daeva of Fire Agnita activated a trap and sealed the entrance. Deactivating the trap and clearing the entrance will require a special key.

2. Alchemia Mansion
A haunting castle found deep in the Alchemia stronghold. The lab used to be the home of the wealthiest merchant in Belusran, but has since been taken over by the Lepar. Its heavy doors remain shut and on windy days screams can be heard within its walls.

3. Draupnir Caves
Cave located to the east of Belusran. The cave was once an ice cave but took its current form when the Balur forced up the underlaying lava to harvest energy. A balaur legion of Bakarma has set up a contraption in this area that is dissipating the energy of Aether in all of Atreia.

4. Secret Laboratory
A laboratory run by the Lepar in the deepest of their laboratory grounds. It is said that the Lepar are conducting experiments on creatures found in the area, away from the watchful eyes of Elysium.

5. Indratu Stronghold
The base of operations for the army under Balaur emperor Tiamat, lead by Indratu. It is guarded by Indratu and his 4 elite generals so only the strongest of Daeva may enter. The stronghold is accessible from the Kraltumag cave in the Interdica area of the Abyss.

Some guild members from AionSource are actually live streaming the Korean OBT here:

every night at 6:00 PM EST until the OBT ends. They're also answering questions about Aion so feel free to ask.

Character animations look really nice and fluid. Staff meleeing looks pretty great as well, a variety of animations, not just using it like a baseball bat like every other mmo.

Your friends over at Freelance are proud to present a high-quality stream of your favorite Korean Open Beta! Since the Beta will be ending shortly, Freelance has decided to broadcast our final moments with the next greatest hit with anyone who will watch.

This time, we've set it up so that the stream is sent straight from our desktop to the wonderful Mogulus website in the best quality possible. The stream will be sent using a 10Mbps internet connection (compared to the 3Mbps that those have seen on previous streams) which allows a much larger upload rate, allowing a much better quality stream!

Freelance is happily showing off our Templar, Assassin, Spiritmaster, Cleric, Gladiator, Sorcerer, and Ranger characters. These characters are all minimum level 10s, so they are a good idea of what the class will play like.
We are broadcasting nightly, starting tonight at 6pm EST and ending whenever the viewers are all gone, or we fall asleep on the keyboard. If there are enough viewers, this will be a nightly deal until the end of OBT.

The stream is hosted by Mogulus, and can be accessed by visiting Deft Kou's Aion Stream on any Flash enabled web browser. Feel free to join the chat and ask us any of your questions, or request us to play any of our characters.

This is an Aionsource Exclusive, and available to all! I'll be monitoring this thread until the stream goes live, so feel free to comment!

Sorry, forgot to post this about the Aion streaming so you'll all have a good idea of what they'll be doing.

aerial combat looks really good. I wish they showed how it looked like through the players screens.
