All around best job for soloing.

I am just curious what the overall best job is for soloing. pick any job with best possible armor and best possible player at level 75. Any subjob is fine. Some characteristics should be considered such as least amount of downtime, ability to solo many types of mobs, able to deal with links, and so on.

We all know BST is the best. So dont even put them on your list.

1. Thief- In my opinion thief can solo the most amount of mobs in the shortest amount of time without getting touched. Also with the ability to use status bolts the can use drain on most mobs along with blind and sleep bolts. Not to mention amazing Eva traits and with ninja subjob unlimited shadows if you stay on top of things. Not to mention if the thief had kraken club off-handed they could deal some serious damage by WS constantly. I could go on forever.

1. Red Mage is also holding spot number 1 for me. I really cannot decide because RDM/NIN has an amazing ability to solo. Can deal with links easy and not to mention the buffs that they can cast on themselves and the debuffs on the mobs. RDM seem to have an edge on mobs like crabs and crawlers because of dispel and they can just nuke it they dont have to rely on melee. Also Worse comes to worse a RDM can ust sleep everything and just rest up if things get ugly. I see many possibilities here also.

2. Ninja is a very close 2nd imo. I mean with ninjutsu skills maxed out they can debuff it and even do some weak nukes. Not to mention the most importan piece Utsusemi. Ninja is also nice because you can sub almost anything you want with it and still get the same result, untouchable. Nin/whm or rdm or blm has all thier own qaulities. Or you could do Ninja/War and just do decent melee with berserk. Many options with ninja.

After these jobs I have some issues deciding which comes next.

BLM has its ups i mean it can sleepga links and deal heavy damage quickly but. Downtime would be horrendous (sp) and if you slip up once with BLM it could mean death with such low defense and HP. Also got to figure if it resists magic you have no chance. especially if it resists sleep.

MNK DRG WAR SMN... I dont really have any places for the rest lets hear some arguments why these would be better.

And this is the one time i will admit Ranger sucks at something. Post-Patch Ranger absolutely sucks at soloing. I mean Brd might even be better lol jk

Anyways this post is to long already lets hear some opinions.

Beastmaster? The job was built on soloing.

Sorry lol i forgot to add we all know beast is absolute best but i mean of all the other jobs.

Summoners can solo bombs and crap that has a tendancy to explode.

I thought BLM was the #2 spot for soloing due to the fact that anything you can sleep you can kill, and anything you can bind+sleep you can own, but i haven't leveled any other jobs to 75 aside from BLM so I'm positively biased. And you're absolutely right that a few ill-timed whacks could mean BLM death. Our HP is positively one of our weaknesses. We do quite well with blink and stoneskin though. Usually provides at least enough time to get sleep off, and if that gets interrupted we usually have time to stun+sleep.

DRG/WHM

That can be a really good Solo'er. o.o If one looks at the AF and considers the use of the Healing Breath with DRG/WHM, AND all the stats to the AF, it's good for soloing. With the helm, lets say how I am now. When I solo with DRG/RDM, because I'm leveling WHM currently, I have 933 Hitpoints. I have 108 MP with my solo gear on. DRG52/RDM26

If my health drops below 33%, which is about 311 HP, I cast Barstone. It costs 6 MP, and casts in like two seconds. I regain 166-202 HP. Varying oN day, current MND + or - etc. So, as long as I dont' fight mobs that can one shot me, that leaves me with 102 more MP, to spend between Poison, and barstone. Now by the time I have my AF Helm, I should have /WHM and the Helm allows for healing breath at 50% Health. Healing Breath gets stronger as you go, Wyvern HP + = stronger healing breath. MND + = stronger healing breath. So. imagine I have roughl 1000 HP at lvl 60. it hits 499, I could probably drop a barstone, and get a really nice cure. If I take Yagudo Drinks, I'd be damn near unstoppable vs. mobs that can't one shot.

Gtfo

RDM/NIN 4tw

There is this RDM on our server that solos Amikiri regularly like it's going out of style. Ninja could barely even handle Serket and THF would die to Serket. One could only imagine them on Amikiri...

RDM wins yo.

question for ya, are you casting barstone because it costs less MP and has a low cast time? If that's the case, wouldn't casting Poison ( Red Mage: lvl 5 MP cost 5 recast 5 Seconds time cast 1) be more efficient? :) Unless of course, a spell like poison wouldn't work, but I know other drg/whm that use dia to trigger their healing breath. Anyways, just food for thought.

I will say this, THF can solo PLENTY of cool shit AND they get Treasure Hunter 2 so they get to see PLENTY of cool drops when they are done.

So THF wins in my book as fun/profit but RDM is the "Best" soloer.

WTF is the point of soloing Amikiri 100 times if you don't get any drops ya know?

A Monk can whip something pretty well, I myself can take an Even Match at 75 and be well off. Only problem is the downtime. Too much HP. Monks really need a trait like Clear Mind for HP restoration.

If I had WHM at 37, which I'd really like so I can continue leveling BST, I would try MNK/WHM with a Staff for Spirit Taker to restore MP. It might fare well, but the battles would certainly take loner than just going hand to hand.

well if you were super serious about soloing, mnk/whm would be pretty sweet. Good Chakra and then extra healing from sub to boot, but I doubt you'd have much MP to play with lol You could always eat pies lolz But yea.. monks beat things up real good lol

Yeah Eilistrae, I kinda stealth edited that in. haha. But with Hundred Fists, I could easily take out a midlevel Tough, possibly a high level tough/low very tough.

Ofcourse, I'd also be resting for 10 minutes afterwards. :?

Oh wait, thats right. I did Hundred Fists solo an Aura Pot in Ru'Avitau one day while we had people heading to Olla when I was in Valkyrs. Those are high T/low VT. 8)

Yeah, I can use poison. However A) Barstonra only costs 6 MP as opposed to Dia, B) It's cating time is 3 seconds less, which on something with a fast attack speed, makes a different. When you ride that line of 33% HP for healing breath, you -can't- afford to have your casting interrupted. Dia is kind of like that filler for when Barstone is recovering, and you've gotten like, critted or something. Or, like I'm sure you mighta have saw on Ele's Sea Horror fight, with Hundred Fists on your ass, he's healing non stop, so he's going "Barstone - Dia - Barstone" etc.

The highest i solod on blm is VT Ladon's and Hurricane wyverns.
I've been working on soloing Aura Statues, but they are hard due
to their high magic resistance. So far i managed to get one down to
about 30-40%. But their is still a few items i can pick up to help.
I havent given up yet. But yeah, the jobs that can solo HNM's bangs
a bit louder. :/

I will admit I saw a level 70 something DRG/WHM solo Sea Horror which was pretty hawt. But he was wearing purple armor so it made it not so cool in the end

I'm talking about your rdm sub :) rdm doesn't have barstonra (ooo aren't I the lil nitpicky red mage haha) Anyway, I was merely suggesting that poison has a lower MP cost than both dia and barstone. Plus, poison is more helpful than barstone, unless you're fighting an earth elemental or something, or a cockatrice-type mob.

RDM = Ok.

It' s a good solo sub due to Phalanx and Stoneskin and whatnot, but, it just doesn't stack up to the MND + and extra mp from /WHM. Not to mention the Auto Regen I get, which if I'm no mistaken stacks with Regen the spell. I can find a divine seal use eventually I'm sure, once I get /WHM up to par. All in all, I -can- do it with /RDM. But, it's just not as effective.

Edit: I meant Barstone, not Barstonra. Sorry.

THF dies to Wyvernpoacher... before the patch that made Gob Rush take 3 shadows.
Nah, if he takes all your shadows, just start running, he'll stop to shoot a bolt at you, giving you plenty of time for your recasts.

Brd/whm is probably the most under-rated solo'er end game. Elegy, lullaby, and spirit taker make bard a survivalist, before even buffing yourself.

55+ rng/nin used to be a powerhouse solo, sleep bolt up some TP to slug shot, then repeat. Rng can still solo post nerf, but you're not gonna see any more chain 4's solo at 75. I couldn't even get a chain 2 against elder goobs the other day. Biggest thing I ever took down solo was a decorative weapon for 280 exp.
