And I doubt you'd have 200-300 more MP then me aswell ^^;

Thats not what I meant. I mean take a level 75 job, and put them side by side, lets say a Taru and a Galka BLM, you will see a huge diff, in a way the Galka gimped himself quite a bit.

When I quit, I was a 68BLM, Taru, and I know I had more MP than you. :P

I mean a 75 Mithra RDM and me. But us with the same equipment and see the difference.

Besides, at 75, MP really isn't a big problem for RDMes. Stats are, however. You can never get enough stats.

Debuffs are just hard to stick at that level. My BLM husband also noted a lot of resists on his spells at that level, regardless of his insane +INT gear. When you get your AF body piece, with +15 enfeeble skill, you'll see a marked improvement. Even then it's not 100% though. I've got appropriate staves, AF body/pants/hat, RSE2 gloves and boots, Enfeeble torque, etc. and I still sometimes find a crawler that I can't get Slow to stick on no matter how I beg and plead.

Also, if you have a cooperative BLM, you may want to get them to cast Shock/Frost instead of doing it yourself. Those spells are based on Elemental skill, so a BLM is more naturally suited to cast those. I know how hard it can be sometimes to find a BLM willing to do so, however.

silvereyes, at least you havn't had dispel be resisted.

Well if you have the same gear as a different race then you are a gimp. Not aimed at you Uzor, I mean if a Galka and a Hume wear the same gear at 75, one of them will be a gimp.

How do you still not understand what I'm saying man?

It's rare, but it happens, especially against mobs strong against dark magic.

And anyone who wears the same armor as another race instead of using gear to make up for their weaknesses is an idiot.

I never noticed much of a problem..even being an incredibly gimp, un-sexy mp-challenged sucky ass elvaan  ...until LoO. I've been consistently the lowest-leveled member of the party (usually by 2 levels) and/or at least one level below the "recommended" range for fighting X mob.

I get to around +20 mnd is all...and still have paralyze resisted the most. Started going back to the Dia II >> Shock >> Gravity >> Paralyze order and really - made a pretty big difference. If there's a drk I ask him to cast abs-mnd since that's supposed to help decrease spell resists.

With all of that..plus a shit ton of gear swapping...things seem to be landing pretty well - mm..occasionally requiring a recast.

Idk..I used to be really hard on myself about this - omigod I sux cuz I can't land my enfeebles..NOOOOO!!!

Then..I realized that I do hear "miss" after the sc was supposed to go off...or DAMMIT after a wasted arrow..or misfire on positioning/timing of SATA. I quit worrying about it so much and just concentrated on doing my job. Even tho it's not perfect :P

*cough* magic pots *cough* bastards... but they tend to resist most magic, stupid magic barrier lol -.-

I don't know that i'd say mithra are actually the Ideal rdm as far as stat dist,

But honestly i don't know what to tell you... look at the mobs you're fighting, the days you're fighting them on? don't be discouraged that crabs resist on watersday or beetles are making you work for it on earthsday... try delaying a few second after the equip change before the cast to make sure the effects have taken hold... obviously it's a streak of bad luck, a set of mobs you should avoid... i know i hate the hell out of {moon}...

Mithra= best possible RDM choice. The best HP/MP ratio.
Mithra and humes have identical hp/mp, but humes have 3 more mnd. A taru though will always have a better hp/mp ratio for convert than mithra's until mithra gains access to zenith gear 70+. At 50 a mithra rdm/blm base hp/mp is 757/381 while a taru's is 606/534. Add in a a couple electrum's and the taru is right on mark for perfect convert ratio that a mithra can't compete with. Only race mithra outperforms as rdm is galka, and maybe elvaan if you value mp more than mnd.

My stat source. It has its flaws, but it's fairly close to the mark as long as you don't try to use stats past 60 as the formulaes get off.

(200xp every kill, no chains

First off, if you're getting 200xp/kill and 0 chains, you need easier mobs, easier mobs whichwill almostguarenteed yield greaterxp/hour ratio. If you're not chaining 4-5 in an even decently put together pt, then findsomethingeasier.

Other than that, debuffs fail, thats what they do, just keep trying them untilthey stick, also, I think gravity is dark staff, slow is earth IIRC. Bestof luckto you.

you don't get what I'm saying ^^ Just to see the difference.

Take a elvaan RDM/WHM and a Mithra RDM/WHM, completely naked, and just look at the stat difference.

Elvaan will have higher MND, higher STR, lower MP. But MP is a rather useless stat (mostly used for convert). And the most used enfeebles are MND based, which makes Elvaan an excelent choice for RDM. Sadly, many fail to realize that.

Your race determines your play style.

Someone playing a purely caster RDM will prefer Taru because of the larger MP pool with a WHM sub to make up for the lack of MND.

Elvaans stats tend to be more combat mage than caster. There higher MND allows them to land MND based enfeebles better, but tend they tend to lack enough MP to last between converts. Yes MP is still an important stat because you still need enough MP to last you until you can convert again. Elvaans would be better suited with a BLM sub for the increased MP pool and INT boost. Are INT based enfeebles are equally as important as our MND. Though Elvaans have a pretty high STR, there DEX prevents them from hitting the broad side of a barn.

Hume/Mithra is pretty much the same. A hume will deal out more melee damage (which really isn’t that important) than a Mithra, but a Mithra will land more hits. The rest of our stats allow us to be equally balanced between Combat and Mage allowing us to switch between a BLM or WHM sub to match our party needs. This allows us to be more versatile than any of the other races.

Galka RDM is for the people who really want to place a challenge.

Sorry for the Type-O's I was rushing.

Since the last time I played RDM, about once every 5 mobs i'd be resisted in Paralyze/Slow. 2-3 times every 5 mobs for Gravity. Blind stuck for me 90% of the time...

But also, we were fighting easier mobs... We got to chain...

You OBVIOUSLY have never been an elvaan rdm. For the record, mp is not a factor anymore while exping after convert. In my static party from 50-75 I always outlasted my refreshed blm and whm for the simple fact that rdm spells have a very LOW mp cost so by the time there wells ran dry I hit convert and was ready to go while they were still resting.

If you want to compare apples to apples then yes a mithra has more mp then a elvaan but also has to cast more to stick one. Either way, an elvaan rdm WILL last just as long mp-wise during a chain as a taru blm, whm, and a smn.

this is my point. You have more then enough MP to go between refreshs.

I have about 860 MP or so, which is more then enough MP to last me through those 10 min.

Besides, the higher MND stat means my enfeebles stick for longer, which saves me more MP since I won't have to recast them.

Its confusing posts like these that are the reason the OP posted in the first place.

Not to mention with all the things you should be doing, why the other mages are running bone dry before you are.......

If things go well the first person to run low on mp would usually be the rdm.

My first character was an Elvaan RDM, I have also leveled with Elvaan RDM and seen them in action. I won’t be one of those people who say Elvaan shouldn’t be RDM, but what you are saying and what I have seen doesn’t match. MP is always a factor even after convert simple because a mage with no MP is a dead mage. If you run out of MP, the chain is broke. If you get a link, you won’t be able to do anything about it and there is no rest of the wicked RDM. Even as a Hume, there are times I get low on MP before my convert was ready again.

When comparing jobs based on stats you always compare apples to apples (No Equipment) because what ever equipment you can use, another race can also use. Hume/Mithra doesn’t have to recast that often, but on the same note you will be recasting your INT based spells just as much. Though Slow/Para are very important, Blind, Gravity and, Sleep are also very important and can make a big difference in a party.

The effect of MND has only been established on MND base enfeebles (Para to be exact). No one has been able to prove or disprove if it has any effect on INT based spells after they land, though the description of MND would suggest it does (Unless you are aware of some research that I’ve not seen yet). Unless I’m fighting something that has a high resistance to Dark Magic, Gravidity typically does ware until the end of a fight.

None of what I am posting is a new concept, the majority of all the guides written for RDM either list Hume/Mithra or Taru as the preferred races. Some go as far as completely discounting Elvaan all together. I won’t go that far because they can make a viable RDM, but as I original said, it will cause you to adapt your play style for the races short comings.

Another note about comparing stats, you compare level 10 to 70 only, so you have to also take into account pre-convert/refresh.

From level 50 and up I have only seen my sleep get resisted twice on exp mobs (just ask Kat, I staticed with her). The reason is that enfeebling magic skill plays a much greater role on enfeebles then MND/INT do. Enfeebling magic mainly increases the accuracy of the spell, while int and mnd makes them last longer. Sadly, Sleep II is capped at around 2.5 min, which basically makes int useless as a modifier.

And gravity. While it's true that INT makes it last longer, the recast time is so long that it's only worthwhile to cast it once on each mob because they SHOULD die before the recast time is up anyway, and I have rarely seen it resisted and most of the time lasts atleast 2/3 through the battle, and that is with WHM sub.

While it comes to blind, it is more important now. But when I hit 75 flash overwrote Blind, so it was kind of an useless spell to cast.

Dispel is, from what I can see, only based on enfeebling magic since it's an instant spell (as in, there is no "stick" rate on it). It either hits or is resisted, so int is pretty much useless in this case.

Slow and Paralyze (and Silence on spell-casting mobs) are THE most important spells, and any RDM that don't cast them should be shot on sight. And as you can see, all three of them are based on MND.
