I read and reread the postings on Allakazahm on how to beat Maat as a Black Mage. I did everything I was supposed to do and paid a fortune for INT potions and food to prepare. Guess what.....Elemental Seal + SleepII FAILED!!!! Yes it failed.....Maat flew across the arena and killed me with a single punch for over 250 more damage than I have HPs. I can't tell if the posters are just full of shit or if SE changed all the damn rules after the postings but I spent 9.5 hours yesterday looking for a test and so help me god I can't make anyone go to do it again. I give up....I can't take anymore of these so-called "perfect" tactics people brag about. The fact is I'm stuck at 70 and am unlikely to ever manage to get past it.

If I EVER have the urge to go back into Vanadiel it won't be to spend another day without food or rest to get a goddamn piece of paper to go through another 30 second fight and blow 50K on disposable items.

why didn't you just ask the BLMes on here?

And sorry  :(

the blm fight is all luck. and 50k really isnt a fortune, sorry to say. i know blms that went though that fight 2-6 times before getting it. so just keep trying :)

This was just the latest screw-job from SE....I'm tired of spending 10 hours at a stretch after a test just so it can lead to a 30 second fight and then have to go begging to everyone for help with another 10 hour farmathon. And sadly 50K is alot for me to spend because I've been a full-time BLM and AoE farming doesn't work anymore. Looks like I'll have to start over alone because my static surely can't be expected to wait for me to level up to 70 with a new job.

Im not sure what your strategy was with the Int potions and such, but I can tell you what I did.

What I bought:
1 crimson Jelly
4 pro-ethers
2 Yag Drinks
reraise scroll
wanted a blink band, but couldn't get my hands on it.

What I did:
I made macros for everything I was going to do in the order I was going to do it and then tested them ahead of time.

I entered. Popped the jelly, rested to full, popped a Yag drink, then went to town.

- Casted Flood
- Elemental Seal
- Sleep2
- waited a bit, popped an ether
- Flare
(If you are taru, this should kill him. If not (Im hume), continue)
- Sleep2
- Waited and popped another ether
- Firaga3
Dead

My plan was to hit him twice, Bio2 him so he didn't regen hp too quickly, reraise, manafont, and finish him off. I didn't need any of that as sleep stuck, and I overkilled on the ethers so I never had to Manafont.

Notes:
-Wait til 70. You get a magic attack up trait that will help a lot.
-Macro in the AF coat, an enfeebling torque, and your pluto's staff. For sleep. I also recommend going on Darksday
- If your enfeebling isn't capped and/or you dont have the right eq, then good luck with the sleep and you probably deserved to get pummelled.

Best bet for Maat fights is to go on Killing Ifrit and grab a load of Maat fights for your class and watch them through all a couple of times, trust me, it helps a lot

I drank a Intelligence Potion giving me INT+29, I wore an Elemental Torque, full AF except for my Black Cloak, Aquilo's Staff and ate a Vermillion Jelly. My spells were in the order indicated by the BLMs I had asked.....

Flare (a favourite) > Elemental Seal + SleepII > Flood was meant to go next but he didn't sleep and killed me with a single punch.

And I am a Tarutaru btw AND I have maxed out Elemental and Enfeebling so it's none of the things you mention....I also didn't "deserve" it so cut the attitude please.

And what were you wearing when you attempted to sleep?

I was going to get an Enfeebling Torque but I couldn't afford it and was assured with max'ed out Enfeebling it wouldn't be all that important.

Well, I ask because you said you were wearing the black cloak. You should macro in your AF coat, the enfeebling torque, and your dark/pluto's staff for when you sleep.

If he charges you, use a stun.

Whoever said the Blm fight is all luck is wrong. There is a smidgin of luck in there, but for the most part it is preparedness, knowledge and skill. I personally think that G5 is a perfect limit break test. No half assin it and no having high level friends hold your hand through it.

losing once, big deal... think of what rdms have to go through.
if you're worried about getting another test, how about inviting your static to skill up while you're doing it?
btw, did you fight maat on the right day of the spells you're casting?

it's luck when the only 2 spells he casts are blind and bind.

Actually its BAD luck. Those are quick spells and eat shadows. I'd rather have him cast an AM or aga3. I can easily get sleep off before him, or stun him then watch him stand there with his hands in the air for some time before you see:

"Maat's casting is interupted"

ya.. damn our fight is such a bitch T.T but atleast I got it done third try >< and I hate Ala's forums.. they aren't well organized I think and that ratings bullshit is so stupid.. it's like the "I'm more popular or better than you" kinda bullshit

RDM maat was easy =/ won first try without using chainspell

Either way, I really recomend downloading G5 fights for your fight. Even the ones where they lose. You can learn a lot from it.

As an example; I downloaded all G5 videos I could find of the Maat fight. Repeated what they did right, and learned from their misstakes. Talked to other RDMes that had won to see what they did, and together me and Goshi built our own strategy with what have worked from others etc.

And remember, buy MORE then you have to. Count for an overkill. I bought 1 super ether, 2 hi ethers, a pro ether, together with 2 yagudo drinks. If I don't use all I can just resell the ones I didn't use. And if I lose I more then likely didn't use all.

I went in, used 2 yagudo drinks and 1 pro ether. That's all. Which is way less then what most RDMes use.

Now, I'm not a BLM and don't know how that fight works, but buy more potions/ethers then you think you'll need, because if you run out of ethers/potions with your initial plan, that last extra one you bought can be the difference between a loss and a win. Always expect that the worst will happen and plan accordingly

hehe.. I went in at level 67 for fun, Uzor :D that was cool. Got the old man down to about 30% HP or so before I paniced and died. Second fight was.. well.. bad...>< at 70 didn't do so well... enfeeblings didn't wanna stick and such... so that went bad. Last fight was nice and simple. Time taking but just good ol' Sleep debuff and dispell and such and then bind and nuke and sleep and nuke and so on. As for BLM.. well.. max out your Enfeebling Magic if it isn't.. then Elemental Seal Sleepga II and do it on darksday for better sleep and have the dark staff out for helping it stick. That should help. And ya.. I went in with WAY more than I needed to for the last fight

Thanks for the advice.....I'm hoping to make some gil from Dynamis to afford an Enfeebling Torque in future. I just hope it's possible to solo my test because otherwise I'm starting a new job.

Meh, dont give up! Just hang out in Beadreax and offer to help any coffer hunt parties that come along. The quads are soloable I believe. Just use the sleep-nuke strategy. It will be good practice for the Maat fight too. :D

Aquilo is the HQ light one I think, right? That would decrease your chance of landing sleep spells if it is.

Good luck on your next try.
