Allakazahm and their bullshit postings......

Now, I'm not a BLM and don't know how that fight works, but buy more potions/ethers then you think you'll need, because if you run out of ethers/potions with your initial plan, that last extra one you bought can be the difference between a loss and a win. Always expect that the worst will happen and plan accordingly

On my maat fight, I completely forgot to take in my yag drink, and I used like a melon pie. Maat never even touched me =P

It's all luck for the blm, my friend went through alot of losses before he won. My suggestions is save your gil, screw int potions and crap. Just use a marron glace and a yag drink and you'll be good, after that it's all luck on sleep.

I suggest opening with Flare, then stun him ASAP (spam stun macro before flare is even done), then sleepII him, -if- he resists, cast sleep) if sleepII didn't land but a 2nd sleep did, do sleepgaII to solidfy it. Then Just cast Flood, and quickly bioII him, then try any ol' spell, if you die, reraise and finish him off. If you live.. well you live =P

Aquilo is the HQ light one I think, right? That would decrease your chance of landing sleep spells if it is.

Actually, Aquillo's is HQ Ice Staff.

Sleep is a Darkness Elemental spell, so use Dark Staff for it. If you have an Aquillo's, you should have a Dark/Pluto's Staff.

Thanks for the advice.....I'm hoping to make some gil from Dynamis to afford an Enfeebling Torque in future. I just hope it's possible to solo my test because otherwise I'm starting a new job.

Get a spider torque its way easier. And yes macro this, dark staff and your AF coat in to sleep. Screw ethers, yags and all that. I fought him once, beat him once like this:
Get into position at top of ramp, Manafont > flare.
When you cast he begins his attack so ES > sleep II. If he doesnt sleep you are dead.
As soon as asleep cast flood.
When cast he wakes so stun > firaga 3 will finish him off.

This was just the latest screw-job from SE....I'm tired of spending 10 hours at a stretch after a test just so it can lead to a 30 second fight and then have to go begging to everyone for help with another 10 hour farmathon. And sadly 50K is alot for me to spend because I've been a full-time BLM and AoE farming doesn't work anymore. Looks like I'll have to start over alone because my static surely can't be expected to wait for me to level up to 70 with a new job.

here ya go now...why complain about your Testimonys?

1. BLM Test's drop easier and from MORE mobs than say... SAM or perhaps DRK

2. SAM and DRK both are in hard to reach places and wayyyyyyyyy to in-convienent(sp?) shit. SAM is in Castle Zvhal...wow that sux...

3. DRK drop's from 3 well known places...Monastic Cavern Lv. 75 NM w/2hr Blood Weapon, Beadeux(sp?) Lv. 75 NM Adamantoise Quadav, and last but not least Doom Soldier/Doom Guards Lv 70-75 skeletons...in Gustav Tunnel

so ya please please please don't complain about the difficulty of ur Test's >< BLM test's drop frequently in Beadeux along with PLD Test...we killed 8 PLD Quads 5 Tests, 7 BLM type and got 3 tests...not hard and they are killed easy WAY easier than those damn NM's -.-;

Maat is all freakin' luck. Fist time I did it, he got me with Asuran Fists. I might have won, otherwise. Second time, he hit me with One Inch Punch. He did more damage with a crit than he did with that. So, just remember not to panic during the fight and you should be ok. Don't worry. Watch the videos of other people fighting him. It really helps to see exactly how they did it. Also, talk to blms that have beaten him. They'll have really good ideas. Good luck on your next attempt! (Oh, if you need another test, I'll go with you. I need a beadueax coffer key for my whm. ;) )

On a side note, anyone know if you can escape and go in again?

so im not the only one that said it was all luck alanon

Meh, my opinion is still that it's not all luck. I went 1/2 on Maat. I went 5/5 on sleeps. First time I lost is because I got cocky. There was no bad luck, I was just plain stupid. :P

Still, the key word was 'opinion'
It could be possible that a random factor is used in determining a sleeps 'potency' or ability. Nothing can really be ruled out in this game, unless it is directly stated.
For example - as whm, I have cast Holy in exp PT's where MP hasn't been an issue. On the occasional mobs that I could use it 2x, sometimes one would do full damage, and other times, I would only get 12 ._.
Its exactly the same with sleeping links. I've noticed RDM cast Sleep II on mobs - yet they don't sleep, and they cast Sleep II again, and the mob is sleeping for the rest of the fight.

Poor Paddy had a stroke of bad luck IMO. Not everything in FFXI is based on skill. (Although it helps tremendously =^^=)

Say what you will arc, Im going to lean more towards a boatload of missing +enfeebling from lack of AF coat, torque and dark staff than I am "luck". You watch, I bet it won't be long before he comes back and tells us all how he wupped the old man's ass.

Well, I hope you are right Alanon =P

I don't know what armor he had on, or how much Enfeeb skill that he 'could' have had. I am sure he will win with, if not this next test, the one thereafter.

Most of the guild on alakazam not very good. Some even fake inform, like item that really not existed in the game. :(

Lots of people have given good advice on the fight, so I'm not going to bother with that. Just be careful if he charges you (as he did me), and know that my enfeebling wasn't capped when I did the fight.

As far as the test goes, what I did in place of asking people to help was to go to the 'second' Temple of Uggalalalalala zone, where you camp Sozu Rogberry. There are a few Tonberry Maledictor pops near that zone that you can grab. Here's how to do it:

The Maledictors are actually a pretty small distance from the zone, and everything there will aggro you at that lvl. Kill one or two of the tonberries near the zone line, Invis up, and go find the Maledictors. Use a pebble to aggro one when it won't chain, and run it to the zone. If you do manage to pick up a small train, count on Stoneskin and Blink to eat it up while you sleep the Maledictor, and zone. When you come back in, everything will have lost hate and the Maledictor will still be standing there, asleep.
A BLM was there camping Sozu for part of the time I was getting my test, and he used a tactic of going down Invis'd, getting as far away from mobs that would aggro magic, sleeping one of the Maledictors, and recasting Invis. He would come to the zone, and wait for the tonberry to catch up. They will link, though, so be careful. Also, don't accidently throw your tathlum when you forget to equip pebbles >.>
The tonberries there are on a 15 min repop timer.

After that, it's a pretty standard tactic of sleep and nuke, rinse and repeat. If you're lucky, a small group will be there camping Sozu, and some will even help you kill the tonberries, as that's all they're doing anyway. If not, maybe you'll get one of the Sozu pops (no drop for me, though ; ;). Sozu is a pretty fun fight at 70, just be sure to bind him before you wake him, as he's a THF and will come at you.

I hear some people will solo the Quadavs in the deeper areas of Beadeaux, so you might ask some BLMs or RDMs about that.

Took me 3 tries w/ PLD... 1st was due to me forgetting yag drinks... 2nd was cheapness "BAD LUCK"... he hit invincible right before my vorpal blade went off, did not have enough MP to fully recover and win... 3 rd try was the money shot! It went down exactally how it should, and how everyone posts it should.

Total gil spent? An easy 200k I think. At least my tests drop like water. For some reason we did actually spend like 10+ hours for Padd's test. The drop rate made the whole blm maat fight loss shitty.

I took much of your collected wisdom and made all new macros including a few to change my gear for maximum effect. I went in first thing this morning and did Manafont + Flare for a whopping 996 damage....but at this point SE fucked me again....Maat did Stun and it lasted lasted longer than any Stun a player could ever do....a good 25 seconds (I had a timer)....he then stood there for a few seconds, I'm sure he was laughing at me :( and then he did WatergaIII for 850 damage. So if anyone wants to blame my gear or my macros or whatever...forget it...it's the game itself...

I'm not sure I'll try again...it's too much trouble to collect people to get another test and I can't take all the bullshit of getting psyched up to do it and then getting fucked over by mob-magic that's many times stronger than anything I can do. I do appreciate the previous suggestions though.

I've had some time to get over my most recent defeat and it's obvious I'll be doing this again so no more pretense about giving it up.

Just one last thing before I abandon this thread for good....

I really didn't want to give anyone the impression I couldn't get any help to get more testimonys....the fact is I didn't (and still don't) want to ask anyone because it gets embarrassing after a while. My LS and my many friends on the server are only too willing to spend entire nights and weekends chasing those damn little pieces of paper. So that being said it's back to the grind and an end to my rant.

Thanks to all the other Black Mages for their advice......

Caught this thread late, so pardon if this seems oblivious and a bit redundant but what do you expect from a site that lists like .. EVERY mob in beaucidine glacier as an NM :P

Bout the only thing alla's good for is the fame guide and looking up some of the BCNMs .. aside from that it's a wonderful waste of space with a bunch of pompous or otherwise lying folks who post to the boards.
