Here's a link to the article, by a fellow named Scott Bauer. Basically, this kid has been gaming since the age of 7; is now 17 and plays side-screen fighting games (Mortal Kombat, Soul Caliber, etc.) by the audio cues. Apparently he trounces most people, although he admits in the article that he can be beaten.

Just thought this was worthy of note,

yes i would like to see this aricle to plz post

Not to take anything away from this kid, but all fighter games suck and just require mashing button combos over and over.

Street Fighter takes REAL skill. The rest is garbage.

Old school Apple Games 4TW!

._. He could be more gamer than alot of us... Memorizing where all the options are. Like the start menu and such. >.> We don't care, cuz we see them and then eventually remember what to click like we were born with that knowledge. But he had to actually try remember as soon as he got it.

Too bad he can't play this game. lol. Being blind would definately not work at all.

Props to him.

I bet he could play FFXI fairly well 8) Though he wouldn't be able to pull worth a shit.

Vang, ive heard about your sharp tongue, but I have to say it despite the potential flaming. . .spoken like an amateur. Play a little Tekken5 and tell me how far button mashing will take you. *raises brow* Games like SC2 allow button mashers to get a little further than they should, but any experienced player can stop them in their tracks. But honestly though, I'm not trying to sound cocky, it's just really ballsy for some people to speak that way when if they had skill in some of thsoe games, they'd realize it wasn't true.

*casts Barfire on himself and takes cover behind a rock*

Props to the guy playing games while being blind. I love to hear about people who don't let anything stop them from persuing their interests.

As for button mashing though... For Tekken 5 as long as you pick whatshername the capoeira girl, you can beat the game by button mashing easily. For Soul Calibur 2, I made a conquest character at my college arcade called Buttonmash that played Maxi. I literally never touched the joystick and just pounded on the buttons. He ended up being about 150-5 before I got bored with him.

Thats truly amazing

I've often wondered as I play what it would be like to suddenly go blind.
How would I do this? Could I do this?

That kid is one of the most amazing examples of human sensory adaption ever. I applaud him and would LOVE to have my ass handed to me by a blind kid on SC ^^b

Street fighter series was the only series that required any skill to be good in them (arcade wise)

Tekken, DOA, all this new graphics whore garbage is nothing more than button mashing a little bit of timing. Nothing more, nothing less.

Gotta go with vang on that.. course ... fighters in general are crap IMO, so meh ... kudos to the blind dood tho :D

If he could beat me at GGX2#Reload, then I'd be impressed.

SC, as mentioned before, gives too much of an advtange to button mashers.

MK is jsut plain notorious for being unbalanced. All a person needs to win is memorize 1 or 2 special moves and maybe 1 combo string.

For instance, I'll address this quote:
Article said:
"How do I move?" an exasperated opponent, Ryan O'Banion, asked during a battle in which his character is frozen in place.

He's obviously not playing even the average gamer if the person is unaware of the "freeze" technique in MK. These are "button mashers" vs. "The Blind Button Masher" challenges. With him having the edge because he's memorized enough audio cues and special moves.

But I still give him props for for dedication, as I'm sure while he's not the best, I have faith that his skill is above that of the average button masher.

He plays fighter game mostly it seems. You don't go to different places, (yer only on a stage), then its not large and expansive like FFXI. Im sure he could try his hand on RPGs like FFX, but i really doubt he'd get far without help. And people on this game even WITH their eyes suck at trying to get around. (or its really difficult) Then again, if he has a little help, he MIGHT be able to survive in this game. ^_^ hehe

mr button mashing up their is lying, ya mortal kombat is easy but soul calibur is a bit tricky against somone who knows how to play, as is tekken. street fighter is kinda for the older gamers cause they cant let it go.

cheers.
