So apparently Idol had their contestants cover Cake's "The Distance" for some shitty Ford commercial. You can hear it here, though I would recommend against it.

I was shocked when I found out they used a Cake song, because normally Cake is so anti-this kind of thing. I went over to Cake's website and found out they had used the song without Cake's permission. I was relieved to hear about Cake, but it just made me angrier about the situation.

Idol's version of "The Distance" sounds like something that fell off a Kidz Bop cd. It pisses me off that Idol and Ford will probably get away with this.

I think this situation calls for an old fashioned angry mob. I'll get some pitchforks and torches.
 
I absolutley agree with you on this matter. Cake has always been a great band and the fact that American Idol would rape a song like that is ridiculous. Awhile back Cadillac was using Led Zeppelin's "Rock N Roll" in their commercials and I was pretty horrified by it.

I hate American Idol. The only time I ever watch it is at the start when people are making themselves look like dumbasses.
 
I actually like American Idol <_< so I won't comment on that, but that is a horrible cover.. lol...

A bit off-topic, but in a similar vein; Has anyone heard the horrible freaking cover of "One" (One is the loneliest number, etc.) in the commercial for the video game Army of Two? I hate it when people cover a song but butcher the shit out of it.

I hate samples, and hiphop covers of old rocktunes.

If someone can provide me with an example of a cover that actually does the original justice I can die a happy music lover.

I wish I could just shit on the judge's and contestant's faces, then blast them off to space as is, no gear. Also.. I always still wonder if your body implodes, explodes or just kinda wrinkles up when you are left in space with nothing. they need to test this on animals.

Edit: they need to test this on american idol cotestants.

American Idol need to realize its novelty has worn off! I mean out of the 10 years(?) of its existance how many winners have gone on to have successful careers? 2 maybe 3? Nowadays the winner is a has-been the day after they win
