Ok, I was leveling my WAR/NIN (29/14) in Yhoator Jungle the other day, and I get an /tell asking me what armor and weapon I had. I told him I was using full Chainmail and an Inferno Sword. (Great Sword).

The next thing I know he starts going off on me for not haveing Eisen gear and for not using two axes. I personally do not like using axes at all. Swords are my thing, always will be. And I cant really afford the Eisenschaller and the rest of the set. Not to mention the AH in Kazham was sold out.

So this is how it ended up: (This guy is level 30 WAR with his own Eisen gear)

Him: Damn noob, you need to get Eisen/Kamph gear and get two axes.
Me: I dont use axes. I hate them. {Great Sword} is my primary weapon.
Me: And I can't afford the Eisen gear.
Him: Well then you have no right leveling here.
Me: Whatever.
Him: Dont expect to find a good party noob.

So a few hours go by. I reach 33 and im about to pack up for the day. On my way out, I see him, level 28! and dead. Apparently he had d'lvld TWICE in the four hours that we had been fighting. And after all the shit he said to me earlier, he has the balls to ask me to find him a raise.

Him: Hey, find me a raise please would you?
Me: ....no.
Him: wtf? why are you being an asshole?
Me: Maybe you should get a reraise item. You'll never succeed without one. <sarcsasm>
Him: FUCKING NOOB
Me: Buh-bye /blacklist

I felt so good after that, but it just goes to show you that some of the most anal people cant handle their jobs, even with good gear. Someone said on another topic "The armor does not make the player" and this is true in most cases. If your within a reasonable level gap, you can still succeed. I had been using that chainmail since quifm and it has never failed me. This guy obviously needs help.

Someone else said it best:

Having a skilled player with lesser gear is much better than having an idiot with the best gear.

(I know its not word for word but I dont feel like finding it right now.)

My thoughts on this:
lol@someone acting like that and then asking for a raise. Dignity {Where?}

Secondly, the guy had some valid points. The ENTIRE Eisenplatte set is 65k on AH, AH price of Chainmail being very similar. This isn't a bad price at all, and beats the crap out of the defense only Chainmail set. You should probably have had it...

...however, other pieces in my opinion trump Eisenplatte, depending on what you're doing. (STR+, DEX+)

Finally, you may "hate" axes, but suck it up and buy axes and a great axe. Those are your job's best weapons, and having all three ready and capped (Axe, Greataxe, Greatsword) is very good, providing versatility for skillchains.

To say Skill > Gear is a fallacy, as a skilled player will know what they SHOULD have, and get it.

I wish the Quezty prices were that nice here. The body armor itself costs 90k. the leggings 30k, the boots 30k, the hands 25k, the helmet 40k.

Its absolutly absurd.

I really dont care about popular demand or the weapon ranking system. I use a Great Sword, plain and simple. If I get less party invites? Fine. I wont stop playing my character the way I wish. But I will NOT use axes.

That guy was obviously a real jackass.

I am anal about MY gear. But only so much. Good gear takes time, money, or both time and money to obtain. As anal as I am about my own gear, I have far from the best gear and I can't even fathom being concerned about what someone else is wearing. Jus sounds like a headache.

It would take an awful lot, the WORST gear for the job, or several missing slots, for me to not accept a player. Skill is another story.

Yeah, I'm with Sneaky in that I am anal about my gear. If your gear sucks, I won't say anything, but rather simply outdamage the hell out of you and let you figure it out on your own lol As long as the PT is able to get decent XP/HR and is all around a good environment, then I am as happy as a pig in shit having one of those 30 minute orgasms.

lol@hisstupidity... IF he was saying to you to be "top notch" gear hed refer to having a emp. hairpin and IF your a Hume the RSE gloves.. Even so at that level you don't need top notch gear to fight mandies... I've seen a WHM tank them... HELL I tanked them as my lolDRG. Why do people be such arses about gear at those levels? But I also must laugh at your stupidty... WAR/NIN with a Great Sword? Could've used 2 reg swords or subbed THF to SA in a level. Yes I know you'll say I play to have fun and do what I want!!! blah blah blah.. IF you really want to have fun, you'll play your job to its full potential always 'cause walking around looking dumb isn't fun.

If you truely hate using great axes, I would HIGHLY recomend a job change to dark knight. There you can use a Great Sword and Scythe to your hearts content. Using a great sword as a war may seem passable at lower levels but you are gonna find yourself having real problems soon.

I am obsessive about my gear but I do not hold others to the standards I hold myself, though I also do not party outside of statics with people whom I know to have high standards.

Yeah, Warrior has a higher skill level in Axe and Great Axe. As your level higher and higher, you will notice your attack and accuracy drop since the skill levels begin to widen. It is definitely manageable, but it will take a little extra work to put you on par with others. If you care, that is.

Yeah i am far from having the best gear but i work my ass off to have the best gear i can get. but i will never sit back and tell someone that they need to upgrade their own gear because not everyone has the time to farm and farm and farm to their hearts content to afford the best gear. not to many people would sit back and do what im doing now. i stopped at 57war to work on the 5mil i need for my haubergeon just because i want to be able to do the best that i can in a party.

Its not the fact that your gear is bad, its the fact that you're using the wrong fucking gear. Greatsword weaponskills suck unless you are /thf. If you don't like using axes, don't fucking play war. Scrub.

Exactly! Its not like chainmail is the worst for my level.

Its kind of a double edged sword then (no pun intended), If you have the option between a great sword that does 40 damage or two swords that do 20 damage each, the flow can swing either way. The greatsword can hit for the 40 total or miss. The double swords can either both miss, both hit or one hit and one miss. 0, 20 or 40. Plus the swords that I have have a total delay equal to greater than the greatsword.

Yeeup. Thats the plan. Just getting warrior to at LEAST 30 so I can sub it with DRK. I just use ninja for utsusemi when its my sub job.

Duel Wield lowers the Delay. I don't remember by how much, but just adding the numbers together doesn't work. I'll try to find you the numbers.

Alrighty. I just thought that the delay only lessened when you recieved Dual Wield II and Dual Wield III

I think there is a slight variation with Duel Wield 1. Not incredibly drastic, but I think it's something.

Gear standards are nice the only problem is where do you draw lines? There's no instructions in the booklet about what jobs should get what specific pieces at which specific levels. It doesn't say Ninja: Level 57: Must get Scorpion Harness, and it doesn't stop you at 1 exp tnl to 58 like you have to fight Maat.

I believe in basic requirements depending on means. For example I'll forgive a guy with weird and totally ineffective armor in Dunes or Qufim because they're a new player. I don't agree on the other hand with a level 10 THF who has a level 75 running around naked in the dunes except for a dagger, exclaiming it's all they need and I'm a dumb noob for booting them from my party(yeah it's happened to me).

The problem is that this stuff is all common sense, and a fair percent of people you'll meet online or in real life have none.

So case by case basis. He has up to date armor. He has a weapon of some sort. He's fine. It may not be the weapon or armor most people would decide on, but he's fine by common sense standards. If he has half his armor missing and is dual wieldling clubs then yes, by all means complain. If he was a rank 10 with a level 60+ job as well, he should know to have the best weapon type. But can't expect someone in Kazham to visit WAR messageboards, have read 10 different guides and understand all the parsed data on every wepaon.

Come on people, common sense.

Oh, by the way, Axe/Axe is crap until higher levels anyway. Great Axe is the way to go on WAR, period, until at least 48-50.

A War/Nin also provides the duties of subtank as you have Utsusemi: Ichi. Ninja main tank, war/nin sub. This way, the white mage is free to handle enfeebling and minor curing. It helps keep XP flow consistant. However, as a war/nin you should dual wield single axes or swords. If you have someone else using great axe, even better. Skillchain: Iron Tempest + Red Lotus Blade = Liquefaction + Blade: Retsu = Scission. By then, you should have stone II. This way, since you're presumably on goblins by 29-30 the skillchain is doing a good amount of damage. That's how we coordinated it in my party through there as my WHM. We managed everything so well that as a WHM I was Magic bursting with the RDM and BLM. We would rarely run out of MP, unless we had a double-aggro pull. IE: Goblin Link. elemental seal + sleep would stall the one long enough to pwn the original goblin opponent. None of that would be possible though without a war/nin that could cast Utsusemi: Ichi well and had quick attacks. Typically, she would do some type of damage. It's not all or nothing, it was all or something. That's the benefit. Also, chance of two criticals is better than the chance of one. Not that I'm bashing you like some others might be, as text can be misinterpretted, but that I'm just pointing out where the benefits are with this.
