Anal People about armor

I'm not gonna read pages 3 and up, but if you wanna do it like that, You could Play Drk and do Even More damage~ Drk/nin's arent all too hated either.

Really felt the need to post on this topic, because it discusses something that I see in a lot of players more frequently.

First point I wanted to bring up is that there is a difference between having moderate and "uber" gear. I disagree with people that will refuse to party with a person because they may not have a SH, Brown belt etc. These are the types of people who have obviously forgotten that when you're lvling your first job, and with the way prices are now, that it can really be a tedious task to obtain enough gil to afford the "uber gear". These are what I call "arrogant high lvls", because they are ignorant to the fact that some people do have have easy access to HNM, God, Dynamis and other types of end game events that allow you to utilize a lvl 70+ character to obtain items worth a lot. So when getting into a party, and you do not have the "+1, +2" types of gears I will in no way look down upon you, and I think badly of those that would.

But my second point, is in regards to people equipping their characters with weapons or even armor that is not "as effecient" for their characters. The most common one that I see, are people who chose to equip their WAR with the Great Sword....

Ask them why? "Because it looks cool!". Ok, so if you are really interested in the looks of your character's gear, so be it... thats your choice. But you have to awknowledge the fact, that the Great Sword is not the best for that job. The best weapons are in fact, Axe and Great Axe. They have the most potential for a WAR and because each job will be proficient with a particular weapon, these happen to be the "best" for a WAR.

Now i'm not going to be like the gerk who wouldn't party with you because of your choice in weapons, because if you can still do your job well then a decrease in damage output really won't be something for me to complain about.

I would however in your place, of chosen a Great Axe simply because it does more damage. Plain and simple. And when people make comments like "oh you don't know how to have fun" I really get offended with this because you're being ignorant to what the definition of fun might be for another person. I posted this in another topic already, but i'll say it again... Some people really have a lot of fun when they are exceeding "average" results with their character due to the choice in weapons/gear. I get a "high" every time I see that mob's HP bar go down, and I get even more of a high when I see that my attacks make it go down more than anyone else's in my party. To me that is satisfying, that is my "fun" and people should not be as narrow minded with what their definition of fun might be.

I have more fun being in a Valkurm party seeing my Great Axe do 20+ more dmg on the mob, vs a WAR who has about the same gear/food as me, and using a Great Sword...

And like someone else said, a good player will have all weapons available and lvled to a decent lvl. I myself am guilty of having never touched my Axes while I lvled my WAR (now up to lvl 42), all I used was my Great Axe and now i'm paying for it because I know that once I hit lvl 50, most parties will request the use of a /NIN and Axes will be my best weapon choice... so now I have to deal with getting into skillup parties to prepare myself for when i'll need to have that available.

I realize that in this game there are certain subjects that are controversial (such as which subjob is best) but there are some things which have been proven and when you are given this information from a liable source, instead of reacting and getting upset just accept the "facts" and simply reply that you enjoy lvling the way you are. Except the fact that there are some people that prefer to party with people that are on their lvl of thinking (exceeding average results) and they may not want to party with you because you are satisfied to have "moderate" results.

I disagree of course that you should be denied the chance to party, and I myself would never deny someone like you wanting to party because of your choice of gear. If we're still able to get some decent xp while lvling, then i'm happy... and even if I ever get into a situation where I find myself with someone who reaaaaally has made some "not so intelligent" choices on gear to say politely (an extreme example would perhaps be a WAR using an equippable staff that offers no DMG) I will still give them the chance to show that they can at least play their job well.

Gah, that was longer than I meant but after seeing this same topic discussed again and again, most often in game I felt the urge to post my opinion.

I really dont care about popular demand or the weapon ranking system. I use a Great Sword, plain and simple. If I get less party invites? Fine. I wont stop playing my character the way I wish. But I will NOT use axes.

Go lvl dark knight :|

I see one place rare place where i can see GSD as acceptable/useful for a low level war (capped skill mind you).

You lvl in say garlaige/behemoth's dominion, on bats. You have a 33+ thf now switched to dagger. Then opening with power slash for a distortion skillchain on your tank closed with SATA Viper Bite would be a very good idea.

However, if i had this tactic going on in a party, i would only chose the war as a last resort, picking with higher priority, SAM, RNG, DRG, DRK(one with skilled GSD and not too hard headed insisting on scythe) who can open a skillchain with their A ranked weapons. (Possibly a DD NIN with Blade: rin, however if they tank at this lvl, their TP gain is rather slow, so it wouldn't work well)

Even in your example, the Warrior would be better off with a Polearm.

Everyone is an elitest. Some some of the posts you can tell that it's all about me, me, me. You have to setup to the party standards not your own, that's bullshit. You have to use a weapon that is better for your job, that's bullshit. How about this. Noone has any right to tell another person how to play or equip their job. I know it's the parties $56, well fuck that. It's my $12, it's your $12, there for there is no $56, unless you as a single player are controling the entire party, then shut the fuck up about people's gear. It's great you like to jerk off to doing damage in a video game, but noone asked you about your goofy fetishes. You wanna party with people that are of the same mind as you great, noone is going to stop that. You want to stop leveling so you can buy the uber gear for next level, well that's why you pay $12 a month, so you can have that right. You want be a jerkoff and tell someone their gear sucks and they are a noob, well I believe that is right there with harassment. Truthfully I agree with one thing in this entire post, that is most of you are "arrogant high lvls". Right up there on par with the reason most people thought the JPs were assholes. So now you've all became what you hated when you first started this game. Congratulations.

From what i've seen reading this thread, no one aside from the guy who called him a noob in game has told him, "He is a noob and his gear sucks." We have told him what better choices are and why they are better, and many people even said they would have no trouble pting with with him.

I <3 the JP elitest parties. 8k+xp/hr at lvl 56 is pretty good.

If you're referring to my post, you should reread it because I didn't in any way state that a person "couldn't" party with whatever gear they chose. In fact i'm opposed to "ordering" a person on how to equip themselves, as I completely agree with you that it is their choice because they pay the $12.95 to play the game.

What I was trying to get at, is that in regards to certain issues such as a choice of weapon there are weapons that a job will be more proficient with... and that I think people who make comments on those that like to research and equip themselves with gear that will make their character perform better than average results (this is assuming you have someone playing the character that has actual skill) should also bite their tongue, because a person's definition of fun will differ.

I don't know if you were directing your comment towards me, but considering I see a lot of the things I posted restated in yours, i'm going to go with the assumption that it was.

If you had a chance to party with me, you'd probably take back the comments about me being an elitist because i'm not. I don't demand that a person have "such and such" gear. I do have my opinion if I see someone not trying to access their full potential with a job, but I don't let that interfere because thats my opinion and i'm entitled to it, just as they are entitled to have their opinion. I have never kicked someone out of my party for ANY reason, nor have I ever made something like the issues being discussed in this topic be a reason for me to respect a person any less.

And in addition to me being an arrogant high lvl, if that was also directed to me, I am a lvl 63 Paladin and do not have any job higher than that. I've been playing the game for a year, have yet to enter Dynamis, Sky or any other "high lvl" events so I don't consider myself to be a high lvl player. In fact I have spent a good 60% of my year playing this game helping out new players, always trying to assist them with whatever i'm able to help with. I would think that that the definition of "arrogant high lvl" that I was referring to, is really for a person solely focused on themselves and I am by far a person who focuses on my own gain.

If your comments had nothing to do with my post, then I apologize however thats what I interpreted at first glance.

People will play this game they want, and regardless of that method as long as it is not hurting someone then its fine by me. I just happen to prefer doing whatever it is I do in this game, to the best of my ability.

I couldn't imagine checking someone and then dissing their gear that way, and even if I did I certainly wouldn't be spouting off to a person who isn't even in a party with me. I can't blame you for not finding a raise for that schmuck; if he wants to be a mentor for Warriors, he should work on his people skills.

Part of that is my mage upbringing. Unless you're main healing in fishing gear, I'm probably not going to pay much attention. You could spend an entire xp party with your Signal Pearl and Empress Band equipped and I'd never know.

It's especially difficult for me to imagine getting worked up over anyone's gear at the levels where they could just be doing a subjob. I want to take MNK to 75 and will be pimping the shit out of it along the way, but I don't plan to go overboard taking WAR/MNK to 37. Axe is capped from BST, so I'll have plenty of time to skillup G.Axe, at least.

Nothing is wrong with giving advice, but say your peace and move on. If a person isn't using the weapon you want or wearing the gear, they can't go cap the weapon, or buy and high end piece of gear and come. Either let it go or leave.

But nothing gives anyone the right to cuss and berate someone on a video game, remember it is a game.

I hate ppl who sit there and complain for entire pts. If it's not someone's gear, it's the camp spot, or why you only got chain #4, and not #5 or #6. I would hesitate partying with these ppl more then I ever would anyone over their gear.

But to the original poster, the higher you get the more your weapon choice is going to hinder you doing your job, and with that you hinder you own xp.

Shaunessy, would you be excited if you invited me as a PLD wearing full DD gear setup and the highest damage club or staff I could wear?

That's basically what you're saying, if I wanted to do that I could.. but who the fuck would be happy with my performance in a party? I somehow doubt even your fucked up mind could accept that.

So you have the right to lower people's exp, get them killed and hinder on their time to play, but they don't have the right to tell you off for it or to remove you from their party?

I don't care. I've partied with some really shitty PLDs coming up through the levels.

I don't see how anything I said has to do with getting people killed, but then again you don't get my analogies and I don't get yours. But just incase you missed this part let me bolden it for you. You wanna party with people that are of the same mind as you great, noone is going to stop that.

So would you go ahead with the party, expecting me to tank, because that's what you invited a PLD to do, knowing full well that the setup is going to be completely fucked and the xp will probably be terrifyingly bad?

And if you join a party with shitty equipment "because it's cool" or "because you feel like wearing it", don't fucking complain when you get booted...

tanks that can't hold hate lead to people who die, healers who can't heal for crap lead to people who die. That's how someone who can't play due to lack of skill or gear leads to someone dying. It's not an analogy and the reason why no one gets yours is because your analogies are wrong.

Yes, I'm going to party with people who are willing to put the small amount of effort to get reasonable gear for their level. I'm going to party with people who actually pay attention and who aren't pricks to the whole party. I don't want people who absolutely refuse to conform to the party-based dynamic of this game; and those people have no right to bitch about other people not wanting to party with them.

Most of the people who play see exping as a means to an end, that end being endgame or some event they have to be a certain level to do. That in mind, people want to get through exp as fast as they can so they can get to the more enjoyable aspect that is their goal. People who refuse to do help expedite exp gain are the ones no one wants to party with; and they usually do it through gear, job choices, or attitudes.

Actually, a really subpar DD will also slow down fights, which could cause a large strain on MP, causing lack of healing which results in death, especially against high risk mobs like Spiders.

Laff.
Its an MMORPG, you don't join one of these to please yourself. This game is MADE for grouping, thats why everyone should know that the goal is to become the best that you can be. A WAR with Great Sword and /NIN sub is better than a WAR with a great axe and a /MNK and /THF sub? Nope. Thats the thing, you can be as gimp as you want, but you come here on the FLAME BOARD and admit to us that you use a great sword, you're going to be torn apart. And rightfully so. That is the game, if you don't like it, don't play it and go pick up a single player RPG you scrub (shaunessy).

Funny I didn't see anything about the flameboard in the opening cinematics. So essensially what you are saying is that you join a massive community so you can be just like everyone else? Equip yourself just like everyone else, play just like everyone else? That is not the game, and what is with all of this scrub talk. Is that like the cool thing to say? Well I don't really care, considering that you can't even spell "laugh" correctly.

You don't have to be just like everyone else, but if you show up to a party with H2H on warrior just cause you want to H2H, then you WILL fuck that party out of a lot of potential exp.

The reason so many different melee jobs exist is because each of them specialises in a different fucking weapon... if you want to be a Great Sword wielding Warrior, play Dark Knight or GTFO.

Oh so now WAR and DRK are the same job? I must of missed that memo.
