Ancient Magic II Thread, part deux

Just curious, do AMs' -resist and NIN nukes' -resist stack? If so, why not combine Quake II and (Huton, I think?) on Kirin then do Tornado II/Aero IV and such? Just wondering cause I hear alot of BLMs only seem to get Tornado II and Burst II mostly.

I'm not sure about resists but NIN spells and AM & AM2 definately weaken the mob to the inverse element.

Reason it doesn't get done on Kirin etc is... I dunno, Kirin gets pretty hectic. Half the time trying to MB on Kirin is swing and miss, you see the first tell in the chat logs, but I never know it's MB'd till I see the damage.

God I love:

There goes half my logs while I'm in the middle of a fight.

Let's get a few numbers out here before we go into some cold calculations.

First is magic burst, the important multiplier here is 1.3.

So to simply things, let's imagine first the base damage we're doing here is 1000 with... say, Burst 2.

Base MB is then 1300.

Now with 5% increase from potency, we instead have 1050, which makes the burst effective 1365.

Now we've got the day of the week, obi and AF2.

We get 1.1 for the correct day, so the 1000 is then 1100.

5% more for sorceror's tonban.(-stats lost from losing mahatma pants)

10% more for obi(-stats lost from losing penitence rope)

Let's nix say 7% cause of the int we're swapping out.

Effective, the bonus modifier is then... 1.18

1180, or 1534 MB.

now +.06 for capping 1 element, added to MB

which would be on the right day...

Freeze 2, 1000 base,, +.08 cause obi/tonban, + .1 cause day, + .02 cause ice staff INT, * 1.05 cause potency...

that's 1260 base, and then with 1.36 MB..
1713.6 MB.

and with the added magic accuracy cause capping, every nuke, MB or not caused 6 elemental magic behind its blast.

And then the other 6 days of the week, just use the base damage of Freeze 2 without any day of the week bonuses, which is going to be like 1071, with 1457 MB.

Then remember for 2 days of the week, there's no bonus for weather, so for the all 6 setup, all we have is ice to fall back on, which is just the 5% potency and 2% INT... or, 1071 base, 1392 MB.

So now we scale this out...

Casting the right element of the day...
-------------------------------------------------
We get an average per day...

First off, there's a major dilemna... half the time, you can't MB the right day of the week. I'll have to factor in that half the time you're doing it with no bonus, for an effective, 1300 dmg MB.
base on...
1180 6 days a week
1000 2 days a week
1534 MB 3 Days a week.
1300 MB 5 Days a week.

Average becomes, 1135 DMG, 1388 MB.

Now for always using just Freeze 2 and Burst 2...
-------------------------------------------------------
1260 2 days a week
1071 6 days a week
1713.6 MB.2 days a week
1457 MB 6 days a week

Average becomes... 1118 dmg 1521 MB average
+for all situations, 6 more effective elemental magic

So by getting all 6, and carrying all 6 obis with you, you will as a base nuke, gain 1.5% more damage. Without the obis, nix 5% half the time or 2.5% average - and you lose 1% damage on average.

For magic burst, no matter what it's a 10% gain by specializing.

Specializing adds another 6 elemental magic to all AM2 nukes.
Getting all will allow you to use the right elemental nuke for the right NM.

However, NMs are also the one time that BLM often MB, and it should be noted 6 elemental increase will assist with the wrong element a little, since often pre AM2 people just cased Blizzard and Thunder as MB for Wyrms just because they were stronger and bad-elemental resistance isn't that powerful except on gods.

The resistance argument holds some weight however, depending on how much damage increase lowering a mob's resistance will overall increase by all the BLMs. It's notable however, that only 1 BLM needs to have the AM2 to lower resistance of all the BLM at the fight. So to increase overall efficiency, it's probably better off in the hands of a BLM whose base damage isn't that high.

Mainly, that BLM could have Flood 2 for when they're going to do a light chain, and Tornado 2 for when they're going to do darkness chain.

Bonus? They have Tornado 2 for Kirin, and Floor 2 for Suzaka, the only 2 gods it would make a difference.
-Genbu and Seiryu area already covered, Byakko resists everything.

I hope that's been an affective overview, I'm sure my numbers aren't perfect but should help people weight their choices some.

By the way, it seems like the average base dmg is around 1600 for most BLM on AM2, so if you want to know what that means to you, just multilpy your average against the 1000 base... so if you did 1600 base... for example: the big MB that's 1713 in my calculations is for you > 2741 damage MB.

Or if you were a really strong BLM and your average was 1900... that may mean, the max MB could be around 3255 damage, which might turn a few heads!

And then SE comes and shits on all of your formulas and adds resists into almost every nuke so they're never gonna be the same...

I kid Fire, that was an awesome read :)

And for Crosis and Stouter, since you have alternative AM2s and sea access so I'm assuming Obis, and assuming merited potency, what are you guys doing on AM2 - right day, full gear vs like freeze 2, wrong day full potency?

At the moment I have lightning, ice and fire obis and dark but thats always in storage lol. The only other one I want to get is wind obi but have been lazy about getting it. There just isn't enough room for all the gear I use to have room for all the obis. Merits are full lightning and ice.

But yeah I would assume Tornado II on Windsday with obi and Af pants would beat out a Freeze II/Burst II nuke but not by much.

Also with the lame magic nerf, at least on HNMs, it will be pretty hard to get max damage out of your nukes which annoys me greatly so. Any BLM who has weaker gear then you if they cast first on an HNM will effect the damage your nuke does. Sadly using Elemental Seal doesn't bypass this either. Though the other day with no weather or obi day of the week I did do a 2261 Burst II burst on Fafnir :D

So if we can agree that carrying an extra 4 belts to overall increase non MB AM2 damage by 1.5% is not space efficient compared to say, sticking in some hMP gear, the question then becomes if additional burst damage and an extyra 10 effective elemental magic is weighted more or less than lowering resistance, which seems to be the ultimate argument for a more versitile AM2 spread.

Would seem to me like the way to go would be to take your weakest BLM, have them cast the AM2 to lower reistance, and all the other BLM specialize for the AM2 burst and capitlize on the lowered resistance and their own increased magic accuracy.
