Well you never know whatcha got until its gone eh?
Less QQ, moar pew... erm... moar post post?
Disclaimer: This is not a bitchfest, or a modbashing, or a complaint.
It's not even that.
I'm more disappointed that there was so much thought out for this process, along with a build of hype for this event, and to now have it pitter out near the end just makes it seem to me that QCDN events such as this are a waste of time.
Just think about what went into this:
- Admins and Mods propose to bring 'more' to the site through different means, contests being one of them.
- Someone approached the mods with the idea of making nominations and categories.
- That said person made an anonymous account to post categories, take in all the nominations, take in all the votes, and I suspect, tally up those votes.
- Admins and Mods made a big push for this contest - the topic was bumped, and there were deadlines made for both nominations and voting.
Now, I'm not really in any rush to see the results, but after the push for voting and a deadline before the year ran out, it only makes sense for those who made the effort to vote see the results for 2008 now that the year is over. By this, I don't demand that Arc or any of the mods post the results this instant. I am sure they've been busy and this whole thing is likely trivial. However, when I brought up when the results were going to be posted, Arc hinted that he has the results, and was just waiting closer to the end of 2008/beginning of 2009 to post.
I imagine since Miros and Audino left that there is a lot more work for the remainder to pick up. I also know that these people have real lives, and don't need to spend their time worrying about this site.
I would even like to know how many people even voted. This wasn't just a poll, people actually had to do something to get their votes in. Maybe this was too much for the everyday browsers. Maybe not. This is why I want to know the numbers. It would be interesting to see if something like this is even worth doing anymore.
I personally thought it was fun, and I imagine others did too. I also think there were people out there who thought it was stupid. If there was a majority of people who just didn't care, then it seems a little sad for the creative minds who went ahead with all this and worked behind the scenes to bring it to the users, only to have it largely ignored.
Now that its taking a few days after the passing of 2008 to actually release the results, I almost wonder if those who built it up feel apathetic towards the whole thing now.
