Anime Kills Kids?

Deep enough to be buried down to his chest (head, neck, shoulders, chest were all probably buried).

Maybe they buried him headfirst?

Uuh, lol edit:

"and the others were trying to mimic when he was buried, headfirst, in a sandbox in the backyard of the house."

Its kids like this who make it seem rational to censure the Human Torch from the old FF cartoon. H.E.R.B.I.E. my ass!

I dunno...H.E.R.B.I.E was pretty evil. Sometimes he had 666 across his 'eyes'.

Must be some deep sand to not get out of that. Espically if he was thrashing and yet he still couldn't get out. Sand isn't all that heavy unless they dug a gigantious hole for him.

Should have watched mythbusters. ): http://mythbustersresults.com/episode92

I thought sandboxes were not too common now of days because of the various health hazards (such as small animals leaving presents in them).

Mythbusters, awesome. They're not just in it for the fun (and blowing up Buster alot), they are an awesome source of PSAs for the world.

Still though, I would have never thought that, of all things, a sandbox would be deep enough to bury someone alive. I always thought of sandboxes to be somewhat shallow. (I have never had a sandbox when I was a child so I wouldn't know).

Honestly? A 10 year old and you're gonna pull the intelligence card?

Its a sad thing to have happened. Thats all, leave it be :|

I've been watching anime since I was this age, and even if I liked violent series like Dragon Ball, and such, I never intended to imitate what characters did in the series, even at my young age. So... =\ yeah. And I doubt it's 'cause I'm a girl >_>;

Basically.

I do like how the OP has a quote by Gaara and the kid was mimicing Gaara <,<

Guys, guys, we're missing the bigger picture here.
It's debatable whether or not anime will cause kids to die. But what's been proven as fact here is that SAND is the true tool of murder. If it wasn't for sand, then the kid wouldn't have died.
I propose a ban on all sand, closing of all beaches to be remodeled with a soft material instead of the lethal SAND, and the discontinuation of that magic sand stuff that goes from grains to solid when put in cold water.
Also, we must dismantle all sand boxes and replace them with pebble boxes.

They were saying he was smart. I would expect a 10 year old by that age to know the difference between fantasy and reality especially if people are saying he was smart. Maybe I set my standards too high, or parents are just fucking terrible at raising kids.

all I have to say is, that kid was a Narutard.

I remember when I was 10 years old. I was never that stupid. Also, 10 year olds these days should be a lot more mentally mature than 10 year olds were 16 years ago, when I was 10. This world makes children grow up faster and faster. Something had to be wrong with that kid for him to think he could manipulate sand like they do in any cartoon. Either that, or the other children he was playing with, are just blaming it on the cartoon...

I'd bet money that it was more the parent's fault and it had nothing really to do with the cartoon. But since when do parents take fucking responsibility for their actions? >.> when does anyone? It's what pisses me off the most about people.

Wow.. Hmm, I'm not sure where I stand on this. For one, I think the kid probably had a really good imagination and him and the friends were playing. I have no idea whether or not Naruto really played any kind of role in this whatsoever, but everyone loves a scapegoat and I bet the kid did watch it one day while his mother or father was in the room and they were at some episode with Gaara in it, so when this happens, that's what they chose to blame it on.

But really, I read the article and watched the news clip, in both the mention of Naruto isn't very big. It's more like, "Oh we think it was because he was watching Naruto" and then that's it. Oh, also, did anyone else actually watch the news clip? lol "The show is called 'Naruto Sand Ninjas'" What the fuck? XD They could at least get the name right.

Also, I dunno, but 10 years old isn't really that old. Hell I remember having one hell of an imagination when I played with my friends at age 10. Maybe kids grow up a little faster these days, but a child's imagination is a pretty wonderful thing. I mean, who hasn't done some stupid things when they were a kid? Who doesn't still do stupid things that you think are cool at the time? Really now. It's just unfortunate for this kid that.. well he had a bad idea.

You can't really call this kid stupid, he was being a kid.. granted the idea to us doesn't seem very bright, but that's because we know better and we're older. There are kids that were really big into Superman growing up or (insert other flying heroes/characters here) that have tried jumping off a roof to fly, seriously, it's happened more than you might think. Why? Because your imagination makes you think that maybe you could do it too, because you want to be like that person.

When I was 10 I played soccer and was pretty fast, me and all my friends at the time would always watch saturday morning cartoons. One I remember was Sonic the Hedgehog (you know, with Sally, Tails, the rabbit girl, wussy fox guy) and me and my best friend at the time would sometimes just run around in his back yard. I'd wear blue sweats and pretend to be Sonic, I'm not making this up. That's just what an active imagination can have kid's doing for fun.

I don't blame the kid for his imagination, really when it comes down to it, it was just a very unfortunate outcome. Had he have been pulled out when he was thrashing he probably would have been just fine, and just suffered a good scare and probably would have learned never to try that again.

I'm not contesting we look at the situation as adults and know better and wonder why he did it. At the same even with the vivid imagination I had as 10 years old, I still wouldn't have thought up something like this. Then again I stuck to books and was apparently smart enough to realize you do not trust Acme products.
