Well since you ask
Characters are gay and/or emo about everything, haven't seen any comedy, plots are like a soap opera, I won't argu about the animation, and they're all pretty much just stupid all around. I've only ever seen one anime I liked and that was Berzerk. Show me another one like that and I might reconsider.
EDIT: oh and the voices overs, I can't fucking stand the voices on anime. Every voice I've ever heard makes me bleed out the ears

Well i know people have been into anime for a long time... maybe they're just bringing it up now.. since it's being shown on TVs in more an more in the NA areas than before. It's like saying why do 'women' watch daytime soap operas. Those characters are/can be similar to anime characters. And the plots can be just as weird too. But I don't watch soap operas because the plots aren't 'realistic' (comparing it to real life situations). In anime.. you can have those weird plots and it's fine because it's 'anime' (animated fantasy). Does that make any sense?

But I guess there are some people who like watching a girl who got into a traffic accident 3 'seasons' ago and never find the body, only to know that she was living with another family under a different name and never knew because she had amnesia and is currently marrying her actual brother who was hypnotized not knowing who he's marrying is his sister because some diabolical guy is pulling all the strings in the background to get back at his father because he abandoned him years when he needed him the most. But who knows.... I could be wrong. <,<

You've apparently only seen the small amount of really shitty anime then. Unless you've been watching nothing but anime intended for girls, I don't know of any that were "gay and/or emo about everything and plots are like a soap opera." Making a generalized statement about a limited exposure to only the worst part of something, or for material that you're not the targeted audience is pretty dumb.

And yeah I haven't seen much anime, only what's on [adult swim] at night and the few shows my faget friends have forced me to watch.

FMA, Bleach, Naruto, are all the same line of anime. yes there's gonna be some angry, drama-emo people or whatever. Name off what you LIKE and maybe people can name off something you might actually like. If you liked Berserk you might like Fist of the North Star, Baoh, Iria, Genocyber or Record of Lodoss Wars.

And hating an anime just because of it's name is silly. =P

I'm more of a romance/comedy nerd myself. I'm current watching Pani Poni Dash.

When did acting anything other than ecstatic mean they're acting emo? There wasn't anything actually emo, it's was mostly just acting guilty about their actions. It's called realism, bad shit happens to you, you feel bad; your friend dies, you feel bad. If you want happy-go-lucky all the time(which you'll probably just say is gay), you'd have to stick to the kiddie programs. I don't think there's a lot of seriousness going on in pokemon.

That's not emo. Might want to try actually learning what the words mean before you use them. The name cowboy bebop makes sense given the setup of the show; it really is stupid to hate something solely because of the name when it's a good name.

Edit: that doesn't even happen that often, even if it's not emo. The ONLY time ed ever does that in FMA is when someone calls him short, which happens maybe all of 10-15 times in the 52 epsiode series. So not only are you describing it wrong, you're completely wrong about the frequency too.

If you want a semi-realistic anime.. why don't you try watching Genshiken. I think you'll be able to relate to that. Also a good torrent site is boxtorrents.com. They have a lotta manga/anime/etc torrents there.

Honestly I don't know what I like about anime cause I've only seen one I liked...I guess the main character, Gutz, was really cool, he reminded me of Cloud with that big motherfucken buster sword, and he was just a badass character all around. Plus some really badass monsters...and the end of that series...I won't say anything in case someone hasn't seen it, but Jesus it was sweet. And the way it was all done, it was like an actual show, all the other anime I've seen is like a cartoon, and there weren't a bunch of gay little tendies that the characters had.

Huh, guess I do know what I like about it.

Well in the half of an Inuyasha episode I saw they did it like 15 times and it bugs the piss outa me.

I haven't seen it but you can try Ghost in the Shell... or probably Rurouni Kenshin.

Kenshin does a lot of face deformities during the non-action sequences, so he'd probably not like that. Ghost in the shell is good though, no actual emo, no jokes, realistic and bad ass characters; but he'll probably find some other incorrect and stupid reason to hate it based on a single episode.
