Announcing the Arrival of Square Enix Security Tokens & Square Enix Accounts!(04/07)

PlayOnline said:

We're pleased to announce that the Square Enix Security Token is now available for purchase via the PlayOnline Viewer! The token greatly increases the security of PlayOnline accounts by requiring users to log on using a one-time password, updated every 30 seconds, which is displayed on the token's screen.

Also debuting alongside the Square Enix Security Token is the new "Square Enix Account" system. Square Enix Accounts are compatible with FINAL FANTASY XI and PlayOnline, as well as other future online services. Users must first register a Square Enix Account, which is a free service, in order to make use of the security token.

* The Square Enix security token is available for purchase exclusively via the PlayOnline Viewer. The order page may be accessed from the FINAL FANTASY XI top page.

The Square Enix Account information page may be accessed here.
Details on the in-game present for registered Square Enix account holders may be found here.
Time to order those satch- I mean security tokens!

Ordering mine soon as I get home tonight! Woohooos!

cant order now...too many people

Got through and ordered mine. Can't wait to activate, use, then terminate.

Got mine as well--there's a lot of congestion so don't be surprised if it takes a few tries.... Terribleone, I think it said in the fine print that once it's been linked to the security token you can't unlink D:

I was surprised you can link multiple POL accounts though.

It can't be used again when it's unlinked, but you can keep the Mog Satchel I believe.

Upon second read, you're right! Hurrr I r smrt. Any particular reason you're choosing not to use the token? Too much of a hassle?

so I linked my POL IDs to my SE account.... It appears I have to type my fucking 24 char long pass code for SE account each time, in addition to the 6 digit one from the token (when I get it).

People are saying you'll have to wait 2 weeks after ordering, for the token. So quite not yet.

Anyone got thier sachel yet?

I think you have to wait until you physically receive your token. You have to register its serial number on the SE Account site.

its not congested anymore... yeah.. 14 days... I wonder where they are shiping it from.

Well, I got my answer about what happens when the battery dies....it looks like you can't replace it. They say to cancel the link to the security token when the battery starts to get low; if you don't, then oops, bye-bye 11 (at least until you drop another $10, or call and raise hell to customer service).

wait... what? are you serious?

wow. that's some incredibly epic fail.

Those things draw such little power that it probably lasts a number of years before it will die.

FFXI (theoretically) will probably be switched-off before the batteries in the tokens die.

It should come with some sort of warranty that can be RMA'd by SE.

If not?

wait... what? are you serious?

wow. that's some incredibly epic fail.

That.

Says you can get a new one asap if battery is dead within 3 months.

I'm sure if it starts to go out you can unlink it (like many people plan to do anyways after they get their satchel) and relink with the new one.

There'd better be a battery indicator of some sort when you push the button, then

I doubt it. Our finance department uses similar devices to generate keys for their secure transactions, and none of those appear to have batt indicators.

wait... what? are you serious?

wow. that's some incredibly epic fail.

I'm not really sure why it's "incredibly epic fail" when you can just deactivate the token after you get the bag, and still keep it.

Q
: If I remove my Square Enix security token, will I still be able to obtain a Mog Satchel?
A: Characters from PlayOnline IDs that are linked to a Square Enix account will not be able to acquire a Mog Satchel after the security token has been removed. Existing Mog Satchels will not be affected.

A lot of the people buying this aren't doing it for the token, but for the bag that comes with it.

Lucki, I mean for the people that actually care about the account security. Just because YOU don't doesn't mean NOBODY does. -_-
