I first started leveling DRG during my first three months of FFXI back in 2006. I was on a break from PLD because my friend who convinced me to play the game was having RL issues and I promised him I would not level my PLD without him.
I got it to level 16 before I moved back to PLD. It took my two years to level PLD to 75 (lol) but periodically during those years, I some how got DRG to 18. I had considered leveling it to 75 because I liked the AF and the wyverns were super cute. I never thought I would have the patience to level another job to 75 once I finished with PLD.
One day in May I actually picked it up again, after I leveled DNC to 25. I thought I could solo mobs with the aid of Eisenzahn who would not turn on me like charmed mobs would, and the combination of Cure Waltz/Drain Samba.
After I reached level 20, I decided to go ahead and solo it as far as I could. I was then invited into a static randomly by Darsha and Kayleen, who I had only known through QCDN.
Along the way, we picked up Hitaru and his lolpup. We started in our late 20s, with Darsha’s WHM and Kay’s SAM. Around 37, they switched to SAM and DRG, and we continued our static all summer long to 60.
Our 4 person static was the most fun I ever had. We were all on vent, so we laughed and joked around as we picked up stragglers into our parties, or just 4 manned it with Kay dual boxing Smu the WHM, with Darsha tanking as SAM. Soooo many SAM deaths, Darsha, so many. We would make fun of Hit’s puppet Sparky, who then became Quattro. My own Wyvern Eisenzahn had his name changed to Himmelskralle, only because I had never seen that name being used.
Along the way of leveling, we stopped to do so much mayhem – farming, hunting NMs. We all killed ourselves trying to get Gae Bolgs (which we never did get!).
After summer and level 60, when school began, we didn’t get to static as often. We would level sync parties when we had time. We all went our separate ways when it came to leveling after the summer.
Despite this, we still had the time to do things together. We continued to hunt NMs. Kay, Darsha, and I did Nyzul when we could. Hit and I did Assault for our stupid ass Chivy Chains. I was too cheap to buy something I could just make free points towards. I even did more story line to make money, like Windurst missions lol.
We hunted NMs for each others gear. Leveling DRG opened up new opportunities for gear I never once thought I would ever own. Never did I think I would actually go out and get an O-Hat, or an assault jerkin, or blow money on a Scorpion harness or Dusk gear. I had never considered this gear because I never thought about making my PLD a DD. However, by leveling DRG, I helped my PLD out as well.
The last 7 months have been quite an experience. A random choice to level DRG led me to make some of the best friends I have in this game. With them, I have been able to experience more this game has to offer.
So, I am happy that I finally have a sassy DD job. I love wearing my wyvern helm. I am glad I have a job that I can do more with (Come on PLDs, you know we get screwed out of a lot of events, though we still shine in Dynamis!). Hell, maybe I’ll actually get a merit party (Whatever those are)!
Thank you Kay, Darsha and Hit for the fun we had. Obviously we’ll have more.
