Any way to level NIN without tanking?

solo as nin/blm, you can get alot of xp that way. although you sort of ARE tanking if you are solo'ing.....lol

The thing is you could sub anything you like DRG, DRK, BLM anything and you'll never be as useful as the Rank 1 Lv. 15 Warrior without a subjob. NIN is not a DD or useful for anything but tanking/off-tanking until higher up. /BLM is excellent but not until you have all the elemental Ni spells and can get a good amount of INT gear. It really picks up when you get the elemental staves but you aren't even taking it high enough to get ni's let alone those so /BLM would never be of any good. Any other thing is just as useless as the next SJ you might try. Even /RNG using bullets isn't going to get you anywhere. You'll just have to suck it up and pair yourself with a decent warrior to help you tank if you want to be truely useful in a party. I wished at those levels there was more you could do as NIN when I was struggling through them but it's one of those things like BST. You have to tough it out until you get the goods.

Yeah, that's not helpful. I could solo but parties would let me level far faster.

Edit: Obviously I'm talking about in a party setting, otherwise no one would care in the slightest what I sub or what I do.

I'm just saying is all, the NPC absolutely slays things and is a very good duo partner. If you really don't want to tank, that is gonna be the most accepted option. I am leveling my nin up for sub right now and it's been all gravy for me, but using your NPC to duo can easily bump you up a level each night. If you don't want to tank in a group, but insist on grouping, go /drk for the attack bonus you would get and the added INT for your element wheel. On top of that, you might be able to get a drain to hit for a bit at that level if you tried.

After all that, you might end up tanking anyways just from the damage you deal, but at least you'd be giving it your all. No other sub will provide you that kind of strength in these levels.

On a side note: It wasn't that obvious you wanted info for a PT sub, I mean you want to level a tanking job without tanking... I just gave you an option on how to do that. Other people mentioned soloing and you didn't get mad at them. ; ; I see this the same way I would a PLD wanting to sub WHM and just be mainheal in a PT. It's very doable, but it's gonna be alot slower than doing things normally unless you find alternate ways to make up the XP you may have missed because they needed a tank and not another DD.

I would say NIN/RNG would be the best bet, and if you have a BLM in your party that is even better. Throwing weapons and spell deduffs are great DMG for the BLM to nuke off of and if you pull a little too much hate you have 3 shadows to help out before a real tank can pull it off of you. So far as a NIN that is all I've played as because I know that NIN tanks are worthless pieces of shit until Ni. I would rather have a PLD or a WAR tank at low levels and replace the 2 NIN party with something that can cause more DMG. Plus NINs have an A- throwing yet noone that tanks can take advantage of that.

Nin/rng

Shurkienns aren't that expensive at those levels, rangers do not yet have a large advantage on you, and you can pump out good DoT.

it costs a bit of gil but this combo kicks ALOT of ass..

Just suck it up its not that bad, grab another nin or war/nin and you'll be fine. Shit I tanked on WAR till 50's in most my parties. Besides lvling to 37 is easy.

Guyz can I lvl whm to 37 without being main heal? Advice prz.

Just learn the job so you can be an effective blink tank...im guessing mnk/nin in cannons, maybe you will know what to do, instead of some of the melee who dont really know when to cast their shadows if their life depended on it...which it does. >.>

get a PL heck i will PL u for free need to lv my healing skill again send me a tell any time u like

You fail at being witty. WHM can only be a healer, while NIN can be a DD class as well, and were intended to be such before the player base made them into tanks. That's the sole reason why I was considering playing NIN as a DD class, because it's actually an option.

No way in hell am I using /nin on my monk for exp. In fact, I don't plan on going mnk/nin for anything.

I'm actually leveling it for thf and rng which I'm planning on leveling eventually and I just want the sub out of the way ahead of time. I don't plan on blink tanking anything, or really tanking anything unless I pull hate on my monk where counterstance gets me through fine; so there's nothing desired for me to learn regarding the job.

It looks like I'm going to have to just bite the bullet and tank, although maybe I'll luck out and there will be another person who can tank and I can go DD.

To be quite honest, Baja, No is the answer.

Finding parties as a nin/drg or whatever except war isn't gonna be nice.

If people were open minded to change the whole Nin tank thing, then i'd say you'd have a shot, but that being said, i think you'll have a hard time to find a pt, and will give up half way.

As much as you hate it, just suck it up and tank to 37. It goes by fast ^^.

Cheers, GL,
Dj

Well, you will probally be dual blinking with someone which actually works quite well. NIN, WAR/NIN, THFx2, WHM, BLM go go.

That was the only way I made it through the dunes, found a friend leveling nin and we dual tanked. That doesn't seem too common for later on though.

what the hell is with people and WAR/NIN before 50 >.> it sucks ASS before then D: can't hold hate.. can't match a WAR/MNK in tanking role or in DDing role. "oh look... we can dual wield D: even though it's only dual wield ONE and we hit for about the speed of a great axe anyways D: oh.. and wait.. utsusemi's good! but wait.. 30 second recast.. goes down in about 5 seconds.. lose hate when is used. Ya that's great!" WAR/MNK can counter, dodge, defender, berserk, boost, provoke, good WS damage, good normal damage, etc. WAR/MNK > all for 1-37 tank role >.> that is all D:

that may be true, but 2 blinking tanks are always better than a tank that gets hit. So I'll take 2 war/nin over a war/mnk any day.

Keeping hate is a non-issue since the wars only need to blink 6 shadows before giving hate back to the other.

Not taking damage goes a long way with MP usually being a problem at low levels. You often find your party having only the WHM with MP, or a RDM BLM combo. So the less MP you take at those levels the easier it is.

I, personally, would rather have a WAR/MNK, WHM, BLM, 3 DD. It works well if they all know what they are doing. The mob will die fast enough where they won't have time to do much damage.

I don't know what world you live on, but most pick up parties 1-50 don't know what they are doing. I'll take the 2 war/nin and be a whole lot safer.

Puller can pull with little to no MP because there will be 12 attacks by the mob blinked away.

Because everyone is a noob from 1 to 50, and if people in parties don't know what they are doing from 1-50 then how can you count on there being 12 shadows to go through. Peronally I feel that NIN/WAR and WAR/NIN are a shitty combo before 37. Maybe you just don't know how to make a good party if you feel that most are shitty.

I did nin/bst solo from 20-30 then started pting. You might not want to pursue that route though unless you have a lot of spare time.

That's what I plan on doing, with my schedule I don't really have time for partying, so I'm working on soloing NIN to 37. Been usin NIN/WHM, gonna use that until 20(18 atm, workin on 19 tonight), then gonna go NIN/BST to 37.
