FFXI has got me feeling down lately.

I just can't decide what to level. I'd really like to find a job that fits me perfectly, something I'm good at and that I enjoy.

So far I've got:

WHM:38
BLM: 23
RDM: 15 (22 on mule)
THF: 15
BRD: 13
MNK: 13
WAR: 10
BST: 7
RNG: 7
SMN: 6

I just unlocked BRD and got all the equipment and scrolls I'll need to level 20. I leveled it to 13...

and now I'm wanting to level PLD.

Does anyone else have this problem?!

I don't. Basically SAM is the only reason i play this game so thats the only job i play (except for its subjobs ect). In your case i would choose what you like in FFXI (mage, dd or tank) and go with that. I personally cant stand mage jobs for some reason so if i chose another job to lvl beside sam it would probably be drg or rng. Find what you like and play that. Did you enjoy lvling your mnk and war or did you have more fun on whm and blm. Narrow it down, dont unlock every job and then say hmm what should i lvl. Decide a role you like and go from there.

Heh, my RL friend has this problem. He's been playing since PS2 release, and his highest job is BLM, which is like... 60, I think. Maybe a couple levels higher now. The rest of his jobs are random levels between like 15 and 50. I think he's leveled almost every job in the game at one point or another, and just can't decide which he wants to take all the way. Something always turns him off from a job and he starts up a new one. Occasionally he'll go back to an old one again (which is why his BLM is as high as it is), but always ends up going to a different job again.

Sadly, there seems to be no cure for this job-related ADD as of yet. You'll just hafta ride it out and hope it goes away someday. ;)

When I had my char, i was:

75 RNG
74 DRK
61 NIN
55 SAM, WAR
37 THF
33 PLD

I liked leveling different jobs, mostly melee. It is fun, especially when you have the funds too keep gear for several jobs. At first I would sell gear for one, to equip the other. Lose a lot of gil like that.

If you are planning on doing lots of jobs, I'd go with a job that can solo, or gets into BCNMs a lot so you can make some gilz.

Sticking to one job is boring, puts me to sleep if I do the same thing over and over.

Very much so.

Before I unlocked Cor Blu and Pup, I only had 3 jobs under lvl 20.

Everything is appealing in one way or another (except whm).

War - Everyone needs a 37 War. You can sub this for any melee job.
Mnk - Monk is extremely powerful with very little effort very early on.
Thf - Make an assload of money by soloing to 20.
Rdm - Everyone else is doin it, why not you?
Whm - Teletaxi for fast easy gil.
Blm - You get warp at 18, take it that far at least.

Pld - The Cheap tank
Drk - For those days when you feel emo.
Drg - Cool looking af?
Rng - Twang!
Sam - Do any skillchain with anyone.
Nin - Got 50 mil burnin a hole in your pocket?
Smn - The staple FF job. Everyone needs to at least try this one.
Bst - Solo xp
Brd - Get a invite before you see your LS message pop up

Cor - Dice are cool.
Blu - Try it out whilest it's still rediculously over powered.
Pup - I don't even know what these guys do.

The problem is, that I enjoy a lot of jobs. They all have some aspect that I find entertaining.... well, except one. I can safely say that I disliked leveling MNK in a pt setting. There was little to no strategy. Snipper uses metallic body.. now I'm hitting for 0... I'd cast dia or fire if I could, but no... just gotta keep whacking it.
*sigh*

I like to feel useful in a pt. It's important to me to be doing my best. It's not necessarily required that anyone else notices my hard work, as long as I can see the difference I'm making.

It's not a race to 75. You like lots of jobs? Level lots of jobs. I'm sure your moogle loves your company. Also, the more jobs you level, the better you'll be on any of them in a party. Knowing yourself is a good trait to bring to a party, but knowing your party is even better. A blm who's dabbled in paladin, whm, warrior monk and bard will be a much better team player than a blm like me who's a one trick pony with only mandatory subs past dunes levels. If you level jobs as wanderlust and inspiration hit you, and just have fun along the way, you'll be 100x better a player than I'll ever be. Just have fun. 75 will be there when you get there. Took me over two years to hit 75. The best things come to those who wait. If you play levels 1-74 believing the fun is going to happen "when I level up" you'll never have fun. Have fun now. 75 is great, and a big sigh of relief when you hit the top, but the fun is in the adventures getting there.

drk onry for me .. tryed blm rdm whm brd pld nin war sam and smn , i didnt like therm very much lol

oh well ill stay drk full time then

The best part of what Pomp said was then when you level multiple jobs, you can recycle the gear then sell it soon.
I had mules with gear for pld 1-50. My pld was level 8. It was simply ex-gear (and some pre-bought) that I had to stoe "just in case" prices jumped up.
Now I am selling all that and have lost millions.. best plan, level multiple jobs, recycle -acceptable- gear, and enjoy! Some people like exping, some just like aspects of the job.

Do NOT level a job thinking "this will be fun at 75" it doesnt work and is why my Rdm is 66 and I loathe every minute of exp.

I had that problem when i started. Leveled EVERYTHING to around 15 (except MNK, *shudder*)

Eventualy, you'll find somthing that you really want to be playing and just go with it

you bought the account?

If you want to feel important in a party, i'd suggest PLD. You can play Hero! Like Trippy said, it's great for people on a budget, which I see by your job levels may very well be an issue.

RDM is good for people with infinite patience at 41+ (people like to bug ya for refresh, and it takes a while for you to set it into memory that you need a cycle for it)~ in short, it's a menial task to do something so repetitive, and it makes you feel used.

WHM is the same with cure-whoring and Raise'ing

BRD is okay, but you don't see the effects of what you do so easily, so you don't feel as important. You never get bored though :)

DD jobs are okay, but when someone says "There's a DRG and a PUP seeking~ why don't we ask them to exp?" no matter how hard you try to be an awesome DD, it'll make you die a little inside.

Callum was given to Meeze when he could no longer access his account to irl problems (someone else deactivated the account). Callum had been looking to quit for a while, and this was a great way for him to put his account to good use. Meeze would never buy an account.

I sent it to her as a PM but just for everyone else's entertainment.. I thought this was nifty, semi-humorous too.

1) My job can wield many different weapons, can tank well and also play damage-dealer effectively. I skillchain well and get some fantastic job abilities to enhance my already awesome great axe. I am the king of warfare, the battlefield is my kingdom. I am a warrior.

2) My job puts out the most impressive damage-over-time ratio of any class in the game. I hit hard, fast and often. During the end-game levels, I am the most powerful damage-dealer in the game on one of the key high-level EXP enemies. And throughout the game, the higher my level goes the better I get. I walk the silent path, and even the mightiest tremble in my wake. I am a monk.

3) My job deals the most impressive one-off damage throughout most of the game. My function in a group allows everyone else to hit harder, nuke faster and cure more often. I can make a bad tank adequate and a good tank fantastic. I'm one of the best pullers in the game, too. I'll stab you in the back and pass the blame off on someone else. I am a thief.

4) My job is one of the most powerful and essential of any class. I make the enemy suffer, while making the melees attack faster and the mages have more MP to cast with. I support the party in ways other classes can only dream of. I'm the jack-of-all-trades, master of many. I am a red mage.

5) My class is so essential that parties will fight over who gets to invite me. I spend all my time keeping everyone else alive, without me everyone might as well take the shortcut to their homepoint. I am the spiritual and magical core, the lifeblood of every group. I am a white mage.

6) My class can deal damage in ways nobody else can compare with. Nobody magic bursts like I do, nobody can go up against HNMs like I can either. I'm the job that makes skillchains worth bothering with. I am the physical embodiment of distruction. I am a black mage

7) I'm built like a panzer tank, I absorb pain without even blinking. Nobody holds aggro like I do and nobody can take hits as well as I can. I protect the dark knights and dragoons with their paper-thin armour and the frail mages with their miserable vitality. Now you know what happens when the irresistable force meets the immovable object. I am a paladin.

8) I am the true badass of Vana'diel. When I crank it up nobody can compare with my offensive power. I'm every teenage boy's wet dream and every healer's worst nightmare. I wield some of the most powerful weapons in the game. I am...pain. I am a dark knight.

9) For fully two-thirds of the game, I can outdamage any other job if I put my mind to it. Later I just prove how versatile I am by going from pure damage-dealer to DD/healer hybrid. No other class can heal their party-members for as little MP as I can, especially not while pumping out very good damage at the same time. I am honour and tradition, courage and battle-hardened stoicism. I am a dragoon.

10) You have never seen damage the likes of what I can do. I build fast TP and my attacks are deadly. I'm an extremely good puller and can close some VERY powerful skillchains. The best answer to life's little problems is to throw me at them. I am a ranger.

11) With me around, you'll get TWO skillchains per fight. Double the skillchains, double the magic bursts. No class in the game can compare with my TP-generating powers. By the time some of you have enough TP to skillchain, I've probably already killed the enemy with my own. Noble, humble, poised and deadly... I am a samurai.

12) You other tanks actually get HIT?? Pfft. Amateurs. Why get hit when you can just dodge everything thrown at you? AND look good doing it? With me around, healers have time to go cook dinner and maybe catch a movie. You won't see me coming, you won't feel my blade. I am a ninja.

13) Need more MP? Invite me, and partake in my song of bounty. Elvaan depth-perception issues got you down? Invite me and you won't need glasses. Not killing the li'l critters fast enough? Invite me and prepare to be amazed. I am the oil that keeps the party running smoothly. Wait, scratch that, I'm the LIFE of the party. I am a bard.

14) I'm as good as any two party members, because I carry portable members with me at all times. I can skillchain like a samurai, magic burst and heal like a red mage. I combine the best traits of several classes. And nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, can outdamage me when I unleash my two-hour ability. I am the door between the world of the corporeal and the world of the astral. I am a summoner.

15) I don't NEED your invites. What it takes six of you to do I can accomplish all by myself. And, while I may not need YOUR help, I'm always happy to lend a hand if you need ME. I go places nobody else dares go, I see things you couldn't imagine. Fear has no place in my heart, only peace and solitude. I am a beastmaster.

*edited 14 because it was horrible.. magic burst like a drk.. lawl)

When I first started, I wanted to go DRK.

lvled BLM to 7, got bored on it.
lvled WAR to 11, got bored.
lvled WHM to 5, got bored
lvled RDM, liked it, stayed with it to 30. Was tired of never getting an invite, changed to DRG
lvled DRG to 21, got bored and longed after RDM again
lvled SMN to 15
lvled RDM again untill I reached 75.

After that I've basically lvled a little of each. Got WHM to 75 after that, BLM to 75 after that. And then finally BLU to 75.

When you first start the game, its hard to chose a job you like. But you can't really get a "feel" for the job untill you hit 40+, as that's when most noob parties will be gone. You also have most of the spells and abilities you'll need by that time, although for some job, you get more past 40 (Refresh at 41, Absorb TP at 44?, and that PLD ability at 61)

I just wanna highlight that for humor's sake.

There's no rush to get to the top. The sooner you reach it, the sooner you get inveloped in the end game, and run out of free time to level other jobs you may want to. So seriously, take all the time you need. After all, even if you decide you don't like a job, you've just leveled a potential subjob for something else a bit, so it's not like your time was really wasted.

Well..... my first job was a WAR which I took up to 18 so that I could get my subjob. I levelled MNK as my sub and my WAR is now 40. I really really like playing WAR and the damage I am dealing at the moment is great fun.

Recently, I have been levelling MNK again so that I can level WAR without being gimped and I am starting to really enjoy MNK too. It has me thinking about what job I would like to take to 75 first.

I have tried RDM and got bored, I don't really like the mage jobs but then I love playing as BLU since I unlocked it. DRK is awesome too and so much fun and I was really enjoying DRG too.

I think I am going to take MNK or WAR to 75 first but I will definitely level BLU, DRK and DRG when I can as they seem to be the jobs I enjoy the most.

I have yet to unlock COR, SAM or PUP yet and out of those 3 jobs I like the sound of SAM so I will try and unlock that soon. Saying that, I wanted to level NIN really bad as I wasn't getting many invites as WAR/MNK but I got to 11 and I have to admit, I am a little bored with it. I think the sheer cost of playing NIN is putting me off a little bit !

Basically, I love dealing out big damage so anything that does that I enjoy more than the other jobs.
