damnit to hell these people need to die -.-
Ok so I created one of those free accounts earlier this year so I could have internet since I didnt have cable at the time and I wasnt going to go 4-5 months without internet access.
Now fast forward to September when I get my first bill from them, first thing I do is call them to cancel my account as thats the only way to get it shut off besides writing them. The lady I spoke to on the phone said that my account would be open for another month but I wouldnt be billed for it, but only after trying to sell me AOL services every which way, asking all these questions of why im quiting, why I signed up, whos my current cable provider and what phone services I was using at the time.
Now today I get my credit card bill in the mail and see a $30 charge going to none other then AOL, so I search their site trying to find a number to call to figure out what the fuck was going on. But for some mysterious reason the help page that had the number listed on it had dissapeared, the link redirected me to the front page of the help area. So I went and did what every other webjunkie would do and Google it, cause everything can be found with google ^^ So after finally finding the number I needed I proceeded to call and ask why I was being billed for a service I no longer needed. Well apparently the dipshit I talked to when I canceled my account the first time failed to tell me that that extra month my account was open for was already billed to my card, and somehow didnt show up till my bill today.
Guess what im trying to say is that AOL is a pathetic, fucking dumbass, pussy, piece of shit when it comes to account management and keeping their customers happy, or ex-customers happy in my case. So dont use them, they arnt worth the hell it takes to cancel them even if its free internets for a few months.

Not to deviate from the AOL bashing, but call you Credit Card, and tell them it was an unauthorized charge. You'll get your money back.

I've been using AOL since Januray 03. Dial-up cut out like a bitch and never managed connect for more than 15 minutes at a time. Since they gave me a free upgrade to DSL in January 04, I never had a d/c up until last week when my sister decided to play with the telephone cables. Games run smoothly too, but then again I've nothing to compare it to.

They're obviously not the cheapest or smartest ISP, but unless I want a download limit, they seem to be my only option.

you could probubly sue them for charging illigally when you cancel

who knows, theres so many ways to do it now lol

Personally id just threaten that or somethin to get em to cancel it the instant i ask em too

and to get past the questions about why your leaveing id just fuck with their heads for fun lol

"why are you leaveing?": Cus i dont like you people

"Why did you sighn up?": cus you guys are stupid enough to offer free trials for me to use w/o paying you till my other one comes back

"whos your current cable provider?": Somone better then you

"what phone service you are useing atm?": why do you care? Shut up and cancel this shit already.

lol what are they gona do?

cant do a damn thing about it

How to make a free AOL account and never be bothered to cancel:

1) Download AOL 8.0 or higher.
2) Go to new user and put in false information
3) When asked to enter credit card, select "other billing options"
4) On that page, click "cancel" at the bottom left.
5) Select phone billing. (you must have put in a fake phone number to not be billed)
6) Continue registration, put in some more fake information, make your screen name.

Tada! You have a free AOL account for 60 days, the confirmation popups on start up mean nothing, just click the phone number to get past.

Frogot to add some stuff to that.

- This is not illegal, it's AOL's free trials and when the free trial is over, they suspend your account.

- Once suspended, all you have to do is uninstall and reinstall AOL and repeat the process (EXTRA NOTE: If you use AOL 8.0 or 8.0 PLUS, you can use a program I made that resets the sign on user to New User allowing you to do this again without reinstalling! download here!)

Again; you can not and will not be billed or held for illegal actions, this is 100% legal.

These are all newb AoL scams. Heres a better one. That string of stupid names like wompsy-mompsy etc are keys that tell the server what access level to give your account, what to charge it, and how many free hours and such youre allowed to have. Now, most of them are the ones you get in the mail, but AOL has specific ones they give to employees and client-employees like those TOSguardians or whatever they were called. Find one of those, and use aol for free, never get billed, and have better access and permissions. Long ago you could just use findwindow in VB to access hidden areas that had lists of such things, (at one point you could even access "internals" - home office accounts with stratus logins that would allow you to see everything from personal memos to credit card information) but seeing as how I havent used aol even for petty amusment since something like version 2.0 youll have to find out how to get one now on your own... or email [email protected], hes the head of security (or was) and I used to steal his weekly. (this was all back when it wasnt illegal, and if it was illegal I was too young to be charged, so dont think im uber leet or brave or anything.)

Well yeah.. if you want to hack the system and get on internals thats your choice but you'll just end up getting blacklisted like I did the other day for making fun of people on AOL System Msg

What you mean is a Promo code. I have a promo code from an internal, which I use. Internals now however, you can't access the CRIS or merlin database(where they get the credit card info) without being on the XM network, which is AOLs inside ISP. You have to be on their specific IP range to access any of that stuff.

A very long time ago...there were still a few dinosaurs left I think...I had an AOL account and I had the same problem trying to cancel it....but that's not the worst bit....

I used to hang around some of the AOL chatrooms and I got to know alot of people in them...some became good friends even. Well....one woman became somewhat obsessed with me and kept asking people for my phone number and/or home address but nobody knew it so she could never get it. About a month after she started cyber-stalking me there was a knock on our door and guess who was there....you guessed....psycho-woman herself. It seems good old AOL gave her all my personal information because despite their claims your personal data is just that "personal" they resold all my personal info to her. She pretended to be doing a marketing survey and for a small fee they gave her everything they had on me.

This may not prove AOL is the devil.....but it's staffed by his minions alright. So to end it I say we burn AOL's offices and salt the earth so that future generations may be spared their evil taint!

Thank you.
