Okay I nearly bought this last night because WHM is about to be 51 (in like 5 min) but like.. the cure % is still 10% on the staff.. I want to know, does Apollo's really affect curing more than light?

I ended up buying the horridly sexy Antivenom Earring.. +15mp +1hmp which is gorgeous..

But now I am looking to save up for an Apolloss.. I think.. is it worth the 2m?

Apollo's and Pluto's are basically status. Theres no difference in thier effectiveness for cure and hMP.

However, Dark-based spells and Divine Magic will get the 5% bonus over NQs.

Nvm, re-read it. I am a tard.

IMO no, it's not worth the $$ for whm, you can do just fine without.

I'd say BST would get the most out of this staff, but i've been doing just fine Apololess, sooo...

It's become a status item, like so many others....

Cheers

Okay, thanks ^.^ guess my gil is straight saved for Astral Earring now :D

it's an extra 5% for your cures so i'd say that would be slight overkill outside of an hnm situation. +10% cure seems pretty nice to me.
I would personally look into something more useful to waste the other 1.9 mil in.

Smn need this as well to keep carbys perp down useful in solo play, as a whm you could mb with it on light? hell like i would know

For whm unless you just feel like blowing some gil it is very useless.. it has the same desired effect of the light staff.. there is no extra % to the potency... I tested it. It gives you one more of all the other stats it offers.. The only jobs to benefit from this would be Bst and Smn

The extra .5% affects cures? i thought the cure enhancement was the same for both only that the light magic was more powerful?

ftw cure= light magic. now i am confused does the isn't cure potency affected directly by equipment with cure potency effect? not by getting more cure potency from apollo than light since its an upgrade in white magic damage?

MND can help cures.. but only if you have a shit load of it. The results in a cure V using a light staff and the results using an Appollos staff were the same.

Cure's may be light magic.. but appollos staff doesn't directly effect them. Cure potency on the other hand.. well... lets just say Light Staff + Nobles = {fun}

I still tend to use Asklepios + astral aspis + Noble's for the extra MP and I get an overall +15% potency, after i get low on MP I will switch to light staff to make my cures more efficient say when I'm fighting a wyrm, god, or HNM.

Well then let me ask this.. I enjoy fiddling as rdm and I love blu (Red Lotus -> Jet Stream = Fusion_ and if I have the MP (nin tank) I will Banishga II or Holy it for a nice 250-350 dmg burst.. so for when I can do this (not often honestly) would I prefer Light Staff and its 10%.. or Water Staff for the +15 Divine/+4mnd?

I have found that the light staff > water staff on bursts. I think the best I ever got was 1352 Banish III on the NM tree in KRT. The best I ever got with water staff was like 873 on skels in gustav when I was hunting Ungur.

It will also do light damage more often and for higher amounts in melee! Although its completely beyond me why you would want to melee with a staff...if you are going to melee at all i would advise a club. But its still a bonus!

I MB in xp parties very rarely, due to MP restraints (and my Divine skill is pathetic...) and it is simply not MP efficient as i get resisted alot. Sure when i don't its a nice 250-250 dmg but often i get resisted and its more like 50.

Even if you do plan on MBing in a party i honestly wouldn't bother with the apollo staff since your damage output will be low with or without it so unless you want it just for the sake of being able to show off i wouldn't bother and would put the cash towards that astral earring.

On a side note though have you looked at healing staff? +10% cure potency and +50mp. You don't get the MB bonuses but you will be able to throw around an extra spell or two. Be warned though that you have to swap your dark staff out then rest the last 50mp, so if you are having fast pulls (which you ought to be in an xp party) then you probably won't have time to get the last 50 mp. But if you are looking for a nice staff you won't find many better. Be warned though its not cheap. (10 mil last i checked...although that was before the price crash).

Best of luck as WHM!

Just a recommendation, if you really want to increase your healing potential I suggest looking into a medicin ring. It is a lvl 50 ring, and has the latent effect of "Cure Potency +10%" when your HP is in yellow.

Xean can pretty much toss out Cure V's worth 750+ of HP when the ring is activated, and he activates it using venom potions to reduce his health, then uses poisona on himself once he's down far enough for his auto-regen and resting not to interfere and deactivate the ring. This really requires however that you have a good tank so that you aren't taking any hate as I imagine at this lvl you are using Cure IV's when needed. Another method to activate the ring is to buy some HP+ gear that you macro equip when you need that quick reduction in your HP to activate the ring.

Anyways, I highly recommend this because it really does seem to make a difference. When the ring is active, Xean's cures do a quite a bit more. Often he'll wait for my health to go to orange, then toss a Cure V which brings me right back up to my full or within 150 points of my max HP. By doing this, he's able to cast enfeebles, haste and pretty much rest back the MP lost until my HP is brought back down, which means that there is almost no downtime provided you have a refresher in your party.

I figure if you're looking at getting the Apollo's staff to maximize your curing potential, getting a medicin ring would probably be a good idea. The only thing you would have to worry about is AoE attacks which hopefully you're out of range for anyways, and that your tank is keeping the mob on him ;)

I personally would advise against not doing the above unless you are in a static with a tank you know is very good.

Although should you decide to do as above please don't do what some idiots do and over cure until the mob hits you to lower your hp. Some people do this and the extra 10% is usually used on themselves as they go "oh shit i overcured". I still haven't figured out how doing a massive cure on themselves is supposed to help remove hate...

Anyway i personally would never consider the above method simply because it is damn risky. However it is no doubt effective should you do it right.

Very effective if done right. Prob the best idea, but only with a pt you can trust.

I only suggested it because from what i've heard, she is in somewhat of a static so likely the tank is already a player she's familiar with, as well as their way of tanking.

When I tank with my bf Xean who is WHM, he cures me exactly when needed and is never hit, nor at risk really and even more so now that he is using Cure V's which generate less hate.

But I guess if you have a sloppy tank, then yeah that'd be pretty risky and not advised... I went off the assumption that aside from links, most players who play tanking jobs were skilled enough to keep their hate so that using the medicin ring wouldn't be a risk.

But anyways, I think its a good recommendation Windaria if you and the tank you party with are familiar with each other's methods of playing, and that your tank can manage his hate well.

There is no way to tell you how mistaken that asumption was short of my white mage bleeding all over these forums :P.

Seriously though in general the standard of tanking in pick up parties is average at best.

As sad as it is, most tanks don't put forth 100% effort in exp pts.. at least very few that I have xp'd with.. like when I play war.. i have yet to find a pld or ninja able to keep me from tanking most of the time....
