I agree with you partially, but I disagree with that part. In my experience guys like that grow up to be losers and girls get over that. Nice guys don't always finished last. Hell I rather not finish than change who I am.
When I said "Those are the ones that get somewhere", I was talking abotu school. Yes, later on in live, the ones that gets somewhere are those that were the less popular guys. And most girls, at that point, realize that the cool popular guys are something thye don't want. So it all changes around at that point.
HOWEVER
Those guys are usually not assholes. They are usually just "tough". The true assholes are the ones that get somewhere, those are the business guys. Smart guys get somewhere by being smart, in more then one way. You can get a long way being an asshole, and even further being smart on top of being an asshole.
Asshole does not equall being tough. Being tough is the result of putting on a fake mask, pretending to be something you're not in order to get everyones attention. An attention whore, if you will. These are the fake assholes, that are actually just arrogant and self centered.
Edit: to clarify, some tough guys aren't pretending, but the majority are. They do this is a defence mechanism. Put others down before they put you down. That way, they won't have to worry about being rejected.
This is the reason I hate people who just go with the flow. Do something because its "cool", and act in a way that's expected of them. Its not the real them. You can see it like this.
A person puts on a mask, this mask represents the person they pretend to be. On top of this, they dress according to what's "cool", and "hip". They also make false morals and values that they dnon't really believe in, and also hides feelings accordingly. Its like putting a person in a really itchy sweater, they don't like it, but they think they'll be more liked because of it. People hate being outsiders, and hope they'll be more popular by being like everyone else. Kinds have
horrible self-worth nowadays. Its sad, really.
I wrote a poem about this in a lyric competition a few years ago actually. I won <.<;
