AR School board member posts anti-gay comments on FB

Can't we have both? He's allowed to say stuff, but what he says will color people's perception of him. Facebook is not a private discussion, it never has been.

It is free speech as far as he has every right to say it and shouldn't get arrested for it, but at the same time the school has every right and imo the responsibility since they are a public institution to have him resign or be fired. Any institution public or private has the right to regulate actions that they consider inappropriate to the image of the company they are employed.

Beyond that all the protesters are well within their right to annoy and antagonize that community until the guy gets fired and probably should do so.

Now because im sure there are too many people agreeing with my previous statements, if it were a private institution that decided that they think homosexuality is wrong they should be able to fire someone who is not inline with their values as well (as disagreeable as they may be). And if that happens i hope that the community would be intelligent enough to put that company out of business via not using them instead of via government regulations.

True true, you can have both, however, my thinking here is that since he is in a position of "power" and on top of it all an educator (not literally but sorta) it puts the school district in a bad position no? I mean what if some kids see this as an endorsement of them bullying another kid who may, or may not be gay?

This is the exception in my beliefs of FB as a means of spying on employees. He is in a position of power, he does stand as 'somewhat' of a role model, more-so in the way that he represents what education SHOULD be, so yeah he shouldn't go without reprimand for comments such as that.

You summed it up pretty well I'd say. However, because he's elected he cannot be fired.

However, there's an update. He resigned tonight. Now I would post a link in here that shows that, but I can't find one that's not on a gay site yet, lol.

Why does that matter?

Wow, not only is he no better than a buck toothed red neck, he's also incredibly stupid. Did he honestly think he could get away with posting those comments over facebook without thinking "I'mma lose my job because of this". I hope he loses his house, friends and family along with it.

Edit: As a side note. If I ever meet his son, I'm totally going to go to bed with him (albeit he's legal).

The interesting thing here, for me, is that if you read the article, his profile is not public. He's either got in on friends, or friends of friends (more likely), but either way, it wasn't like someone just stumbled upon him being a raging bigot.

He got ratted out, lol.

Welcome to facebook, where the people on your 'friend's list' aren't always friends.

Yea verily. Though not so much in my case. Then again, I am neither a bigot, nor stupid enough to advertise the fact if I were.

Heh, I hadn't really noticed that. Gonna be awkward at the next family get together =P
