Anyway, this is a total load of shit. I don't even need to toss a debate at this. Gov't = Fuct sums it up just fine.
And where is the "I'm offended" button?

I found this on the same site:

Yeah hes right. There are no such things as chiniese gilsellers. It's a myth damnit.

This is about as likely as a tax on email messages. It is likely however, that there will be an interest from the IRS to collect sales tax on the transactions from the US purchasers at some point.

Well they would tax me but I have 30 virtual dependants so the government actually owes me money. 0_o

I'd love to see a tax assessor track me down to check my stuff.

"It says here you have 'The Big One' in your moghouse. Is that right?"

"Yeah, but that's a business expense. I deducted that."

"I'd like you to show me your gear, now. You're wearing Fisherman's Gear, and I see you have a Lu Shang. What else do you have?"

"Uh, nothing."

"I don't believe you."

"Track me down, government noob!"

Then I'd end up casting Teleport-Altep and hiding in the Quicksand Caves with hostages. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Ebony Wands would try to smoke me out and I'd burn the place down, killing myself and multiple antlions and beetles. It would all end very badly. Probably best if the IRS didn't get involved in gil.

Kurgon and Hali ftw!!!
You guys are hilarious.

It would be interesting. I mean if the virtual money is real enough to be taxable would that then give some validity to the virtual world being "real"? At that point I am one of the saviors of the world. I am a freakin hero! Worship me, don't tax me.

One thing I never understood in some RPG's is how is it that the world realizes that I am a hero of destiny and they charge me out the ass for every little item.

NPC: "I heard about how you destroyed the ultra evil that has been killing our citizens for generations.

You: *bleeding* *bruised* *exhausted* Y...y...y...yes! Oh I think I am going to faint.

NPC: "Well you certainly are the hero of our town. You look tired. How about a nice warm bed, some savory food, we mend up your equipment, show you our ledgendary weapons/armor, and some healing medicines to help you along your journey oh great hero?"

You: "T...t...that sounds perfect"

NPC: "That will be more money than you currently have. Get out bum."

/fume Ungratful bastards

*after making an anonymous call to Jeuno authorities, watches all the bazaars set up in Batillia Downs get arrested for tax evasion*

Gil has no value because it is all property of Square-Enix in the end. Legally they could instantly wipe the server clean of every piece of gil if they wished.

What the taru said makes sense.

lol if they put tax on data gill etc then u need to A) make the internet a nation and make laws, what u cant as it is a free place of specch etc
B) some countries/islands dont have TAX like where i live only tax we got is road and COL but no tax on anything u buy etc
I don't see the above as a problem at all.
A) Don't need to make an Internet nation, existing U.S. laws apply to services rendered by U.S. companies within the U.S.. Since there is a SE NA, that would be settled. Free speech usually doesn't apply on the Internet either (not that it really has anything to do with taxes. ;) )

B) The tax would be a U.S. federal tax, thus only applying to U.S. players.

It is a video game for God's sake. Taxation of what? There is nothing to tax. There is nothing to debate.

If you're selling it for real profit it should be taxed. If you simply have it and use it to play the game then no it shouldn't be taxed.

All your gil is the property of SE. It is against the ToS of SE to sell gil, therefore, if you do and are caught then you will probably be facing a class action lawsuit from SE. As far as taxing you assets that you acquire in a game that states it is against there rules to sell for real money, come on people...

In my opinon if you're generating revenue from something such as this, it should be taxed. Maybe not individual players, but companies such as IGE should. People shouldn't be profiting from SE's game and if they are, why not tax them?
This is fake money, the fact that people are buying it in the first place shows they should be taxed.

I am certain that gil sellers who hold U.S. business licenses do pay taxes on their earnings.

I am also certain that if you sell gil as private person, then you would have to technically report that income under "other income" on your tax return. But of course no one does that, and it would be prohibitivly expensive for the IRS to actually track you down.

100% agree.

If nothing but virtual equipment and items are bought and sold, there are no "real" gains...And no "real" taxing should take place.

The AH already takes care of virtual taxing, so.....Double U Tee Eff?
