Asking for a Video Card for Xmas

Yes, that would run modern games better. But don't forget; sometimes newer cards have backward compatibily issues with older games (shouldn't have a problem w/ FFXI).

Ok great found what I will probably get! thanks for the help!

Personally i'm an ATI man. If you play FFXI on the PC then i would suggest going with Nvida, cause getting a driver to make FFXI run correctly has proven to be a bitch, and when you do find an ok Driver for it, it still dosn't compare to how a 400 Nvida can do it.

Nvidia's SLI (*drool*) sounds great if you're a CG artist. Only for for fact it will rip render time in half. A faster graphics card dosn't mean it will make the game/task look better. And if a single card can handle the game it's running, then the SLI is complete overkill and would show no face.

heres my set up and i have long been a fan of the nividia cards altho i was very close to getting one of those all in wonder cards but ended up just getting a seperate coaxal video capture card. that 6600xt is sick for the price. You can overclock that card almost to the stock settings on the $500 cards and made it HD quality. On a side note i think i may be upgrading my processor soon.

depending on how money treats me over the holidays i may be getting something like this for myself for christmas

Edit: Whoops...posted this on my GF's account... Switching over to Evanos.

Thats what I used to think...until I found that when I turn SLI off I got some lag around AH (usually hovering around 22-25) but with SLI on no lag, anywhere, ever! You could look at my card (7950XT 512 RAM 18 pixel pipelines) and think that it could handle the game at all times, but there is actually some noticable difference with the SLI kicked in.

And as a note, all drivers past 81.xx for Nvidia run FFXI awesome, only problem that you will normally encounter is some lag when a bard's song goes off, when Firaga goes off, or for some screen blinks about once an hour (really weird one there...).
