Ya know, I typed up a nice little paragraph about rules and whatnot for this sort of thing. But then I realized an easier way to do this:

If you aren't an idiot, you know your job and the people respect you, I'll organize the burn.

It's pretty cute when people think astral burning requires skill.

I'm pretty sure his point is that you need to have skill for the sake of being in the burn. OP wants to make sure he/she isn't breeding more idiots who don't know how to play their job. I respect that.

I agree, SMN burns aren't totally bad, so long as the people participating have already gotten a job or two to 75 and know the general mechanics of the game, as well as are able to skill up properly so that they are not a hindrance to everyone else. Otherwise we will wind up with idiots like this little gem: http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi/showthread.php?t=76147

This is exactly it. Most of the stuff I had originally typed up was "Have some experience in a job class" "Join the skillup party I start afterwards" etc. etc. But after re-reading it, it occurred to me that anyone who didn't already know this were the people I didn't want to do it with anyways. I have no interest in boosting a newb/noob up and making everyone in endgame suffer.

Personally I've never been in an astral burn. All my jobs were leveled pre-ToAU the good old fashioned tank healer refresh three DD way, aside from Corsair that was still leveled with mostly normal party set ups with the occasional mana burn as puller. I'd like to give one a shot, however, I'm not really sure how they go or what you need :) Send me a tell in game if you want to chit chat more ^^

And I guess the noobs that offer 100-200k plus have no chance of getting a free ride in a smn burn? ^^

People are lazy and will take any free ride they can to get to the top, and when it comes down to how much exp per hour they are getting I find burners get quite petty overall. We took all the bad players in the dunes and turbo-leveled them to 75, now we have more bad players at 75 hope we're happy with the world we've made.

I'm glad someone gets it.
I mean, come on, I'm a Red Mage. I've been on the pulling side of god knows how many astral burns, earning ridiculous amounts of gil I really shouldn't have.
But I'd be swimming in a lot more gil if I didn't turn down astral burns from obviously gimp summoners and syncbitches. I gots me some standards, yo.

lol they aren't happy with it. they just bury their heads in the ground and pretend they don't notice.

i've never done a smn burn either, wouldnt dirty my jobs honor with the shame. my smn hit 75 the old fashioned way. i grinded out parties as a main healer and a back up healer.

You're looking at it as an extreme evil though. Yes, i'll admit that burns have led to ALOT of high level players that don't know what the hell they are doing. But you have to look at the people who do it the right way. There are those who just want to fill in the slow level gaps on jobs that they either already know, or have already learned what they NEED to learn.

Side note: I don't charge for the burns. I keep runs going til everyone has had a turn with their job. So the tanks tank then get a shot at burning a job. Even if it means I have to be PLD the entire time.

But my point is that its NOT evil if you go about it correctly. Look at it like this, say you want to burn COR. Already, I don't have to worry about you. you have RNG at 75, so I know you know your basic ranged info and you have BLU at 75 which means you're patient as hell and will skill up.

It's not about someone coming up, throwing gil in your face and saying "I want this job burned." Hell no. Its about respected players who know the mechanics of a job doing it. In the end, it should just be like a big EXP party, not some corrupt business.

guess this isnt a setup for one? can just move this to GD

i guess you could say i look at it as an evil. and i will not lie that the idea of burning my 58 blm to higher lvls is very very appealing. but the mindset of people wanting to get to the finish line without doing the legwork sickens me. I knew from the start that burning would screw things up in the long run. ToAU you may have heard me say ToAU "WoW'd" the game by making it far to easy to get a lvl 75 job. in fact it overflowed the game with em. while getting 75 pre-ToAU was never a "monumental" achievement, it was something you could be proud of personally, least that's how i always looked at it.

thats probrably the only good thing about this thread, thank you myrrh

Er the slow level gaps on all jobs is where you learn about your job better, just because someone has a job at 75 does not make them an expert on all 20 jobs out there, heck it doesnt even make them an expert on their first job. Do you really think that going from lv 11 to lv 75 in a matter of a day or less is going to train them on how the job mechanics work? No its more like "Oh Koolz last burn I got some lv 50 ability and didnt even know it LOL" theres another fine example of a well-rounded player who grinded their job.... ; ;

Thats nice to hear but really how do you pick 'leeches' (i think its called) do you pick friends with mules at lv 12ish or randomly go through who's seeking, or pick someone with a seek comment like "WILL PAY FOR LEECH SPOT" somehow I see those people at the end getting to 75 a lot faster than anyone else.

How does having a Rng at 75 equal knowledge of how to play a COR? For all you know that RNG got burned to 75 last week by some other 'burners are us' party. People just wanna do all the cool stuff at 75 Cor they dont want to go through all the lower levels where they actually learn the job ask any career Cor that worked hard on their job and they'd be disgusted I bet at some nub getting all those treats and none of the work required to master them.

If it wasnt a corrupt business people wouldnt have made millions selling Hi ethers on the bastok AH to all you burners that have taken over Kor tunnel. And the amount of times I have heard people get in fights down that tunnel over who has camp rights this day shows how much everyone loves to turbo party. ^^

LOL - btw... if anyone wants an extra summoner around to do this with - mine's 76 (about 50 into level mind) and had capped summoning skill before the update (i.e. not running around rocking a 50mp ele siphon)

Anyway,
I'll be taking my smn to 80 through campaign mostly I think.
(Grinding my whm through parties is enough... URHG! And why oh why didn't SE add more high level bombs and snolls to the game?! Q_Q)

But if anyone has a spot for a summoner in a burn feel free to nag me about it, I'll gladly join to speed up the process to 80 a bit.
If I don't reply I'm not at my computer.

Scr*w the haters!

You are assuming that I do enough burns to get everyone to 75. I'm not taking a level 11 and holding their hand to 75. I'm taking a level 40 and getting them to 45 or 73 to 75. I'm not trying to bridge a 50 level gap. Also, if someone is consistently trying to burn the same job, one burn after another without putting any other effort into it, I'll simply say "No."

I'll create a mule for it if I have to. Its anyone who wants to participate that has good standing in the community. Nobody should question someone who is known for performing well. I don't take the "WILL PAY FOR LEECH SPOT" players because those are the ones who think they can buy their skill.

What I'm saying is that certain aspects of one job translate to another. In this example, I don't (or shouldn't) have to worry about that COR not knowing about ranged distances, accuracy, etc. etc. because they already have a job leveled with the associated knowledge. And as to that job being burned at an earlier time, it all falls back onto respect within the community. If someone wants to burn something, but its a known fact they have no skill and/or burned a previous job, then they aren't going to get into my burns at the least.

I'm not saying its not a corrupt business, I'm saying it doesn't have to be. There is a right way to do it, and the problem is that simply nobody has taken the time, or gives a damn enough, to do it that way. As for the arguing in Korroloka, I can promise you I'm not involved in that. If the zone is open, we burn. If not, we don't bother. There is no sense in creating useless drama. To that end, I please ask that you not generalize me with other burners, since I'm doing my best to not make the mistakes they do, whereas they couldn't give a damn as long as they get their exp.

All your points and concerns are extremely valid and I agree on all of them. But the whole point I'm trying to make is that I don't allow my burns to be that way. If done properly, it would have a positive impact rather than a negative.
