Austere Gear

Is it worth it? I mean the body Peice goes for about 500K and my AF gear would be right around the corner...? I'm just really curious as to if I should start farming the 2 Mil gil I'll probably need to buy this whole set, plus I'd be saving for my elemental staves and such also. I'm a really piss poor farmer and just kinda wondering what you high level smn's think.

There is a reasonable line of expectation for your equipment, surely no one will expect you to have teh uber of the uber. Most ppl are happy if you have the equip necessary to do the job w/o hindering others. The really expensive items ala Kracken Club are really for luxury and extra fun stuff.

Many players who hit 45+ sort of gimp their way to AF anyway, trying to hold out on costly upgrades since AF will replace it anyway. I wore my Brig Armor from 45 till 58(ironically that was the best equip for my job anyway)

So if you cant get the entire Austere set I dont think anyone will be upset. I would look at what equip you get in the next few lvls and decide if its actually worth the time to farm for an item you will use for maybe 2-4 lvls max. My friend in the game only plans on getting the hat and the body piece since a few of the AF pieces replace the others quickly.

I dont play a mage class but I am going to assume that many will expect you to at least have the dark staff these days past 50. It really helps with down time

Yeah the Dark staff is a must...I'm hoping to eventually buy all the elemental staves to reduce the avatar perpetuation costs for it's corrisponding element but that'll take time. I also want to do the battles for the Himmel's stock - kick ass for summoners @_@... But the hat isn't too expensive so I'll get that for sure (and it's just so cute) and that might be a great idea to just get the 2 peices instead of the set. Thanks so much for your input ^^

Yeah, my fiancé Oti has the Austere Hat (got it before he was even 50 I think XD). I'll have to ask him about the rest of the Austere set. I know he expressed a strong desire for the Robe, but in a way that I express a strong desire for Winged Boots and an Emperor Hairpin. XD
