He's not the only one. Well, he is the only one I've heard of soloing Seiryu...Which I think most of his fame is from.
Search filefront for Seraa. Search Youtube for Amunaptra. Both are amazing. I'm positive there are MANY others, even on our server.
Seraa solo'd VV and it took around an hour. Straight tanking with a Ceremonial Dagger. Constantly recasting Utsusemi, Stoneskin, Refresh, Haste, Enspell, Poison II, Slow II, Blind, etc. Full haste setup for short recasts, enfeeble setups for Slow II and Poison II, and nearly a full physical damage down-% setup because VV can often double attack. The damage down set is very important, as is Poison II/Ceremonial dagger. The strategy is to give VV no TP. Inevitably VV is going to land an attack that will possibly break stoneskin. Switching staves will inevitably hit VV for low damage but give TP. If VV uses Bad Breath, the fight is considered finished. While asleep, stoneskin will be broken and you will wake up. Death is inevitable, unless you can miraculously have a Remedy potion that sneaks through paralyze and remedies paralyze instead of weight/bind. Luckily, the only breath attack I saw throughout the video was Sweet Breath, which only sleeps the opponent.
At one point Seraa almost dies, so she used Chainspell and recovered quickly. If you watch the video, I think most RDM would have been eating dirt.
Also, in regards to pulling VV...There is a spot inside the room that Spiders seem to avoid, although one was very close. Quite a nailbiter.
Amunaptra has also solo'd Charybdis, however he/she used Ninja as a subjob unlike Avesta's Blue mage. I don't know any other RDM's besides Amuna/Avesta that have the patience to kite(Dot/Nuke) ~30,000HP.
Oh, Amuna also pulled Chary upto the pond outside of the Gold and Silver doors. She doesn't link with other Devil Mantas, however it's still possible to aggro them. The pond is the safest and strategically the best place to solo her, it lets you kite infinitely.
