I'm bored, waiting for people to gather for Limbus... And I just had a piece of the gooey butter cake (Yay Paula Deen's cookbook) I made. It is the most amazing thing I've ever made.

What's the best dessert you've made and/or eaten? :D

Creme Brule, cheesecake, or chocolate patte.

All types of cheesecake are delicious.

The best dessert I've ever made was a chocolate-vanilla-strawberry cheesecake that I made from scratch. The best dessert I've ever had is a tie between a vanilla bean creme brulee and a chocolate peanut butter cup cheesecake.

I am a huge fan of cake. Anyone who's talked to me typically finds that out in short order.

Anyways, OT, best desert I've made was angel food cake from scratch. Best desert I've ever had, tie between home-made lemon meringue pie and raspberry cheesecake.

mmm cake.

cheesecake, easily the best dessert EVER.

Maybe not the best, but its way up there

Just a question, but am I the only person who doesn't like pie? Idk what it is, but I just don't like it. Apple pie? Fuck that.

You just reminded me: Apple Crisp.

You know, I'm not that partial to pie. I mean, if you give me an apple pie that has actual apples in it and not fucking applesauce, I'll eat it and love it... Point being, if the pie is made correctly, I'll eat it, otherwise fuck pie.

Ive never had an applesauce-filled apple pie D:

Always have been APPLES!

Oh man, I forgot something else that rocked. Have to include as tastiest dessert the "mile high cake" from the Sterling Renaissance Festival. It was a slice of lemon cake w/ real buttercream frosting & lemon fruit filling big enough to share and it was so freaking good.

Pie is also delicious, especially home made. Store bought pies generally suck. Especially if they don't have a cover.

But rhubarb is gross.

The mile high cake sounds nummy. D: The only good store bought pie is from Costco. They have slightly sour, spiced apples inside! Very tasty... Oh, I also make a freaking awesome peach cobbler. I don't fail at baking, yay.

Pie must be homemade or gtfo. I'm not talking about using Pillsbury crust either, I mean totally from scratch made by someone who knows how to not fuck it up. Once I learned how to make my own pies I never ate storebought again. Everyone in my family (including me) looks forward to our traditional 4th of July red white and blueberry pie; strawberry-blueberry filling with a top made of crust cut into star shapes. I also made a super-awesome kickass apple pie last October with apples we'd picked ourselves at the orchard.

As for myself, I'm always partial to custards, especially creme brulee and panna cotta. When we lived in Chicago I'd always go to Bistro 110 and have their creme brulee for dessert, it was just perfect. Nice thick carmelized crust on top, still well chilled underneath, and served with fresh seasonal berries. Plus it came in a dish almost as big as a dinner plate. :nyam:

Sounds delicious. Also, do you use lard in your crust? My neighbor taught me how to make home made pies last summer, and she said that only lard will make a crust flakey and sooo good. I know its bad for you, but how often do people eat pie everyday? A good sacrifice if I say so.

I usually use a mix of shortening and butter for my pie crust. I know of 3 tricks that will keep a pie crust flaky though.

1) don't overwork the dough, as the more a dough is worked the more glutens it will form. Glutens = chewiness, good for bread, bad for pie.

2) always keep the dough as cold as possible. Glutens form more easily when the dough is warm.

3) 2 teaspoons of vinegar in the dough when you add your ice water. This is the one most people don't know of. The acetic acid interferes with the bread protein's binding properties, making a very flaky and "short" crust.

No worries. I'm with you on that...best desert I made was "Death by chocolate"

Death by Chocolate? Do tell. I'm interested in knowing what this is. xD

Cheesecake is delicious, Tiramisu is delicious, Tiramisu Cheesecake is super delicious. Most pies, but Apple and Blueberry.... mmmmm.

Cupcakes are delicious, aren't they, Sano? >:3
