Back to leveling Ninja - lv 52

Jamal has remained one of the best geared players I've known. He works with what he has, and equips to play to his strengths. I remember meriting constantly with Jamal, Mattimer, and Crosis back in the day when Jamal didn't have Byakko's yet. Did that stop him much? Hardly, his gear was excellent. He takes the time to do things correctly.

And, not to nitpick buddy, but PCC is 33 :|.

I guess we simply disagree in where the bar for 'acceptable' is set. Yours is set to "If you do not have the best piece of equipment in every single slot don't put your flag up." Mine is set to "Have the best equipment in the majority of slots, but if you're missing a couple hard to get items, I don't mind." If that dooms me to mediocrity, then so be it.

Your standard is not realistic.

Your standard IS realistic, I do agree. The only problem I have with it is that some people gimp the easy slots as well as the "hard to get ones". It's not difficult to camp a couple of NM's, just time consuming like this whole game.

The bar I have set for an "acceptable standard" is for me. I will not level unless I have the best I can get or very close to it. That's the way I am. That's my personality. I have different expectations for myself and for others. For me it is always set higher but that is the same way I am irl. Strive for excellence, not mediocrity. If you are going to do something you give 120% and nothing else will do. You don't just do the minimum to get by. I wanna be the big dog on the porch, not the runt sucking hind tit, if I run a parse. If someone checks me I want them to see I'm willing to do whatever it takes to have nice things and do my job well.

Honestly, most of the time I don't even check my party members as long as they are doing what they are supposed to be. If I see a war doing piss poor damage, I'll check them, if I see another blm have low numbers on nukes, I'll check them, if I see a pld getting owned, I'll check them. After I check them I might offer suggestions but most of the time I just don't pt with them again because they went off to level and I went to farm.

I don't level without the best gear. I take pride in my characters gear and in my performance. I don't like idiots and gimps. If you don't have time to camp NMs, but you have time to party at level 60+ for a few hours, then you need to cancel your subscription or rethink how you handle your time.

hehe, my BLM will now and forever be 18. I seriously considered leveling WHM until I realized I would have to lvl BLM again. To each his/her own^^

They may not have had that gear at those levels because it's almost impossible unless you have a 75 job, met a few nice people, or have the drive to farm like a mofo.

My nin is 33 and mnk 35(went 32-35 in same party) atm. I stopped at these levels because I didn't have Ni, O'kote, Kyahan, Jujitsu Gi, or PCC. I level'd rdm to 40, found 2 nin's to do Under Observation with. I got damn lucky cause out of 3 orbs, I got Ni on the first one and PCC on the third. I camped the dirty birds and got Kote and Kyahan about a month apart. Only the Gi left to go, but I'll camp that too. It's not impossible by any means, just takes time and the desire to have those items.

It's too bad some people don't take more pride in there performance and gear.

*edit* The pride thing was not a dig at Ruffy by any means. It is just a general observation.

I have a PCC, have had one for quite a long time now. I own the EX versions of Fumas and Kotes, I obtained them about a month after the EX versions were added and that's after selling off 4 kotes and 2 fumas (I still own one non-EX). I do take pride in my gear, a lot more than most. I own what I can afford or camp, nothing more. I level when I feel I want to and when I feel my gear is up to par unless it's a personal request by a friend and I feel obliged. I farmed those items up not because I had to, but because I wanted to. No one has the right to force me into some minimum gear standard that I didn't and don't agree to. If you don't like my standard, I respect that, but don't come throwing your weight around telling me I have to follow your standard.

There are certain community standards and I don't think PCC is one of them. 2 mil is still no small amount of gil in this day and for those who lack the resources, it's not an easy task to get your average gear, let alone that piece. It would be a perfect world if you could expect everyone to have a PCC, sniper+1, hauby+1 and whatever else, but I don't see that happening as much as I don't expect to see hobos begging for change on street corners. This is a game, as much as I do enjoy it, but if you expect people to spend hours doing tedious labor for minor amounts of enjoyment, then for many it ceases to be a game and becomes work.

It's not like I disagree, honestly. I've spent days of my life camping those birds. I used to make decent money off them when you could sell their drops and luckily I kept a pair for myself before quitting (long before the ra/ex development.) But since coming back to ffxi I've spent hours in Castle O and they won't drop for me. (6 claims in a row one evening on Fuma NM, got me a bunch of strider swords that night.) And that's just to free up cash since I have the non-ra/ex items already. I want to get a swift belt for my ninja, but I finally got a CoP group through Diabolos and they want to continue, but since my NIN is tanking for us and it's only 55 we'll be stuck when we get to 60 cap... So do I level my NIN with a life belt so my team can finish CoP? Or do I wait for the swift belt and watch my party break up?

Sometimes it's not as easy as 'go farm'.

(And before anyone digs at me for not having CoP done, I just returned to the game after quitting soon after the promy's were released. I was in the FIRST all NA party to get Tavnasia access on the server, back when the promy's were hard. Sorry if I sound prickly, but preemptive defense seems necessary here.)

*edit* Mistaya, I would expect that you try farm a codex and try a belt run with your CoP static while you are there. There is one mission in particular that you have to have 0 fomor hate. You could reset your hate by killing the Tauri in Phomiuna Aqueducts for a codex(3 are in the first room and can be solo'd by a ninja. After you fight the professor in the Sacrarium for the mission, you could do a little subby farming to rebuild hate and pop the belt NM. Get the help of your static since you having that belt will help them on future missions. Just a thought.

Its a forum, people make threads on forums... But anyway...

I got the information I needed to get NIN to 60, and thats good enough for me. Ive known all alone Gigas bracelets arent the best thing to use, and all along I have been camping Mee Deggi and Quu Domi both, which I am 0/32 on Duu Domi and 0/30ish on Mee Deggi, and these are claims only. So Ive spent hundreds of BS's on PCC bcnm, and still havent received a PCC. 3 codex's have been farmed, over two dozen if I include people I helped, I still have not received a belt. Im not complaining about any of it, Im going along with leveling a job I feel like leveling, if any 'elitest' doesnt agree with what I do, tough luck I guess.

But I, above all, enjoy leveling with people who try to make their job right, not just the people who have the ability to do so.

Not exactly sure, but I would say yes. There maybe someone else that can answer more definitively, but either way an extra person to claim and the possibility of it affecting drop I think might be worth it. LOL

*edit* oh and I could use the silk from farming the crawlers for leveling clothcraft =P
