Basic Guide to Dark Knight...

There might be some truth to that wall of eye wrenching text.

Just to add about subbing samurai, the only thing that scales with level is the strength bonus from hasso. It's +5 at 37 and +10 at 75. Aside from that, hasso gives the same accuracy +10 and haste +10% regardless of level.

Mex, its not about being afraid of getting hate or losing exp its about a drk becoming nothing more than an MP sink in an exp party or during an HNM hunt. Using souleater every chance you get or at the start of a fight before the tank has even established hate is just plain dumb, DRKs doing stuff like this is one of the reasons we get a bad rep in this game.

He mentioned that somewhere in the wall.

Couple things. Now the DRK I play is Elvaan and 67, I've found that if you are lucky enough to get a RDM that will refresh you there is no reason why you shouldn't be casting ABS spells. They don't just give you those stats, they also remove them from the enemy. Good for you tank and good for you when you pull hate.

I agree with Meeze and feel that the only time DRK should sub THF is when your tank sucks or you are doing a SC. So far my highest damage came from /WAR and not /THF. That was an ABS-STR ABS-DEX LR Cross Reaper. Funny how everyone is talking about SE and noone noted the LR.

Rappa, /WAR gives no bonus on DRK to attack other than zerk, and the few STR you get.

The gear I use right now not gimp but definatly not the best and at 67 I never swap out my snipers. I've tried all sorts of different combos, but the ACC from the snipers just nets a better result. At 75 when things aren't IT I can see not using them but until that time I say stick with them 100%.

Personally though, I play DRK to do as much damage as possible. I think that if you are a tank and can't keep hate from me to the point where I die, then you suck. I'm just doing my job, you should do yours as well. There is a reason PLDs have cover and it is even on the same timer as DRKs hate stealing abilities. Yet even if I am behind the PLD and use my LS, SE or SELA macro, I never see a Cover follow it. That is also the reason that I think people think that PLD is bad fo fast exp. A DRK can kill a mob in a few hits, the only problem is that the DRK will either be a cure bombed waste on the party, or dead. That is a different rant all together though.

I'm pretty sure thats the given Memu, we all learned that one in the jungle and hopefully by the time your lv70+. So unless your /NIN and have somewhat of an idea on how to count shadows by the time you lv nin to 37 i'd say that would be the only time its really really ok to spam SE at the very start of the fight not that you would unless you where retared strong. besides the mob shouldnt live much longer than that if your in a decent cannon pt. As for HNM/Gods goin for the big sata or w/e you do, use your JAs before you initiate contact with the mob, you dont hit it, your dont have hate simple stuff all you have to do is plant the hate 1.6k dmg+ should be good if not more.

You could also not be an MP sink by just one-shotting yourself with a weaponskill like mexi does.

Shhh! and with that note i'm goin to sleep.

Just an FYI at me taking baby steps and doing poop damage, and for those of you that like to think Spiral Hell in exp pt sucks. Here ya go.

I'm.. not really sure what that's supposed to be showing, but okay. I actually have a few Spiral Hell in xp shots from back in 2005 before I hit 75. Lemme see here... ah, here we go. Typical chain 5 type xp pt, before melee cannon was all the rage. Was pting with a drg and they wanted me to close Darkness so I used Spiral Hell...

You can put out decent damage with it, but that doesn't mean pts are still going to want you to. The funny thing now is that in Dynamis (cities, that is), I can put out 1k+ damage routinely just spamming Guillotine when it's at 100%. I haven't really merited with drk since they added abs-tp and all that other good stuff, but I'm gonna assume that Guillotine is still the way to go for meriting. That reminds me, I need to actually spend some merits on my poor drk sometime. :/

DRKs everywhere are /wrists because you have adaberk and walk around as a freaking whm.

cool, you did 1300 with souleater, you are 1337.

Spiral hell is more TP based, and gives the best numbers at 300. Guillotine will give more consistent numbers at 100tp where most merit people launch their WSs.

Spiral Hell = 2k+ onry 1.8-1.9k = decent

lol, don't blame me. I always try to go to stuff as drk but no one will let me :/

This is correct. SH at 100% is garbage. If you've got even subpar gear you can make it do good dmg at 200%+ (that ss was above 200 but under 300%). But again, no one wants you holding on to tp that long. If you're going to insist on using SH, you want to pick up a Martial Scythe (they used to be dirt cheap, I would assume they still are). Otherwise, don't bother.

I forgot where i saw the graph of damage, but thats basically it. If you are gonna do a WS that isn't guillotine, Cross Reaper will usually beat out spiral hell at 100% tp. Until you hit the 300% tp spiral hell is less good. Saving tp for 3 fights as Drk in a merit party is pretty stupid.

no, what Im saying is Im pulling off these WS's easily and constantly, no missing whatsoever.

Guillotine can miss, and can miss a lot, leaving your damage like crap.

The consistancy of Spiral Hell is far higher than Guillotine. All you do is grab martial scythe, get 100%tp, then abs-tp. That is all I did.

Also, I didnt use souleater several times, and still pulled off 1.3k-1.6k hits. Far more effective than Guillotine. You know DRK has those other abs-spells for a reason, I dont know why over half of you 'elitist' drk dont use them, when you should know better than not to.

But I guess the player base will always be stubborn?
