Be nice to your baristas

I tip pretty generously because I can afford to and I know how it is.

Yeah, now that I've had a few jobs under my belt, it's easier for me to feel empathetic about the kids going through it now.

I used to work at the Lands' End department in Sears, where I made $6.00/h + commission. There were two people there who used to hog the register (since your commission came from you actually scanning the price tag under your own personal numbers). When they had gone on vacation, we all shared customers. The woman who used to hog the register used to make an extra $600 dollars per day because she got all the (3%) commission.

I hate commission so bad.

i always tip 20%... even more if they were spectacular, less only if they really deserved less. but i'm one to order water with dinner simply because if i'm thirsty i need water to hydrate lol. it's silly to think that way but i'm sure there really is a correlation. it'd be interesting if somebody studied the tipping habits based on age, gender, race, etc. as well as tips correlating with what they ordered etc.

Having worked as a server and bartender, I've studied them. At great length. LOL

There are exceptions, of course, to everything, but basically people don't understand what tips are or the industry is like.

In many cases, tips are that servers only source of income. What I mean by this is that, unless state regulations dictate otherwise (some states do), the person waiting on you makes $2.13/hour usually. The only reason they make any hourly rate at all is so that its easier for the government to take taxes.

Many servers have to tip out a certain percentage of their total sales to other restaurant employees, such as bus boys and/or bartenders. Yes, folks, that is a certain percentage of their sales, not percentage of their tips.

For example, a place I've worked at has a 3% tipshare. So, when you bring in your party of 15 and have a bill that is $150.00, I had to tip out $4.50 regardless of what you left. If you left nothing, I had to pay $4.50 just for the pleasure of waiting on your cheap ass. If you tipped $10.00 (it seems many people think $10.00 is a good tip whether the bill is $25.00 or $250.00 - a lot of people have a "tip cap"), I've made $5.50 for waiting on you for the past 60 to 90 minutes. Or 3 hours, however long you decide to sit there, because I don't get other table until you leave.

"Here's a tip -- In the newd, gettin' lewd, with the fewd, you and me, me and you, but is that what you are into?"

Must spread more rep. LMAO

Frost, my first job was in the plumbing department (aka Home Environment) at Sears. And there were forever old men in there bitching because I was a 16 year old girl and obviously had no clue about anything.

yup... 84 = epic fail. and most CT drivers do indeed suck. there are a few (myself included i hope) who know how to drive. and i constantly yell at my mother if she's driving like she's from CT. it's horrible. in my town in particular we have the "Simsbury Rolling Stop" which is where people sortof maybe kinda think about slowing down at stop signs? but not really, and then go blazing through a busy residential area at 50 mph anywho!

yup. fail.

LMAO, I'm from Torrington. I've been known to frequent that Starbucks on 44/202, though I don't actually care for any of the products the company produces other than espresso and cocoa. I'm aware of the "Simsbury Rolling Stop" because it's caused at least two accidents while I've been in the car. GO northwest CT.... Miros is also from our lovely corner of hell. Just don't eat at the fucking Friendly's around here. I think they hire from the "I just got laid off from a real job, so now I'm a disgruntled bitch waitress" pool.

As for treating your servers right, I think the same courtesy should be extended to customers in terms of "having a bad day". If you get the regular dick, yes, feel free to spit in their latte. I work at a Circuit City, where I really go the extra mile for almost every guest, regardless of their treatment of me. If I recognize them as assholes on more than one occasion, I just stop greeting them. You'd be amazed how fast your managers recognize you when you are super nice to even the most frustrating customers.

My rule for tipping is the bill divided by 6, plus or minus any good/bad behavior on the servers part. My biggest pet peeve in being served is ignoring the table between key interactions. The easiest way to get the tip upped for me is to fill my glass before it's down to a quarter full. Little extras like that go far for me. My favorite tip that I ever left was a single dollar bill attached to a note reading "The other 9 you would have gotten were given to the donation bin at the front counter, maybe next time you'll remember to check up on your guests instead of having a smoke." (we could see her outside smoking whilst 3/4 of the people at the table were completely drained of drinks and the ketchup bottle was empty, and she didn't come back after giving us the food till it was time to give the bill and clear the plates)

He keeps trying to take me out for pizza, which I translate as him trying to stick things in my out hole. Haha, he's a great guy though. We've still yet to meet in person, despite about 2/3 years of "Pizza Palace?" invites, and even his latest attempt to give me FREE GASOLINE that didn't even work. (the gas station he worked at for a long time went out of business)

O ryl? Our last conversation consisted of him consoling me about my cheating whore of an ex, and using the phrase "a mouth is a mouth after all"... Lol, we should all hang out sometime. Do you work at the aforementioned Starbucks on 44, or a different one?

I'll be sure to do EVERYTHING you said not to, just so you know it's me.

and omg, mir you whore xD lol. ok so maybe his libido is larger than a french whore's ego... but we love him anyways :P

Perhaps we'll have to drag him out to Apollo's then. That's some of my favorite pizza ever.

Can one be a *male* barista? Stalker.

ok so i'm gay, but i'm pretty sure the appendage between my legs renders me male, yes. lol. and i wasn't stalking lol. i was gonna write on mir's public stuff and saw that and started Rofl-ing.

Honestly I think barista is the correct form to use for the male or female coffee drink maker. Plural form is baristi but most people say baristas.

yupyup!

so here's another thing. Yes i'm gay. yes i work at starbucks. I'M THE ONLY QUEER AT MY STORE!!! go figure. don't assume that just cause someone works for a company who's slogan should involve buttsex that they are gay. it's really not that noticeable at my store, but there are ppl who don't know us who CLEARLY hit on everything with a penis in our story jsut cause they assume we're all cock-sluts.
xD there is no tact in the previous paragraph, if it offends you go suck miros' cock.

When I used to Caddy in Boston I always made like 200 bucks a day for 6 hours work. The club rule was 20 dollars no matter what + tip. I'd caddy twice in a day and make some sweet bank. It's so easy to put on a fake smile to please the rich people. That and cheating during some tourneys helped too. <_<

Hell, my first time Caddying I had a super bitch and she did nothing but yell at me. I just smiled and and continued to carry her bag. A week later she was requesting me every time she played leaving me with 60+ dollars in tips.

A fake smile can go a long way lol

She probably liked the way you washed her balls.... no pun intended.

( I lie)

Myrrh you are so hot she couldn't help but fall for your charm even if you said nothing. <3 you. Did she always yell at you when she played? I'm guessing she liked blowing some steam by freaking out.
